Dungeon Crusher Kiritan

Dungeon Crusher Kiritan

Cute little puzzle game with unique presentation.

Combat/movement is not exactly turn-based and more like tile-based - you move at the same time as your enemy 1 tile at a time and have to figure out when you will be in advantage to strike first.

Levels are handcrafted and not procedurally generated which is a big plus in my opinion.

There is also a level builder so looking forward to cool community-made maps.

Can recommend, especially with the launch discount.

Tohoku Kiritan is a VOICEROID character popular in Japan. VOICEROID is a type of text to speech software widely used in the Japanese Let’s Play scene. The Japanese way of doing things dictates that if you can substitute something with a cute anime girl you definitely should and it makes anything automatically better. Instead of using a webcam to record their faces most Japanese let’s players prefer to use anime characters as avatars and if they don’t possess cute girl voices, then the VOICEROID package provides an easy solution for both needs. The characters can serve as narrators or commentators to the provided gameplay thus putting more focus on the let’s player’s script writing ability rather than personal charisma, while also boosting creativity and providing greater freedom. As an added bonus most VOICEROID characters double as singing software on the VOCALOID or UTAU platform and therefore come with an already established fan base in the music scene. Of course this approach to let’s plays and streaming is largely unknown outside of Japan because of the language barrier. It’s also the reason why you may have stumbled on this game’s page without knowing what it’s about.

A little, cute gem here.A turn-based tactics game where you control some slimes and fight against other slimes. Levels are set up as various grid like terrains and you are allocated a certain amount of units to play and position at the beginning of the level. Here, you must defeat them within three turn, using different types of slimes which unlocks as you progress such as ranged slimes and shield slimes. Each turn you can take three actions including moving and attacking your unit, and choosing which direction your slime faces at the end of the turn. This is necessary as slimes take different amounts of damage depending on which way they attack and are attacked, so strategising your positioning is key. As well as there being more various kinds of slimes later on, there are also levels get more complicated as there are traps that arise, different levels of the terrain as well as the scale getting bigger.

I really like this game, it is excellent. Is one of the only games I’ve played where watching the enemies move is as interesting as moving your slimes. The art style is excellent and the music is also really good. The menus are really well made, and everything is easy to use. Every move you make is impact, and the levels are challenging but fair. I really like the three round cap, as it means that you don’t end up hanging back and hiding. It is a highly enjoyable game, I highly recommend getting this game, it is excellent.

DUSK ‘82: ULTIMATE EDITION

DUSK ‘82: ULTIMATE EDITION

Dusk ‘82 has reminded me of how awesome dungeon crawlers are, as well as the fun and sometimes tricky puzzles within them. If it’s okay to compare it to other games, I’d say there are elements/influences of Ultima, Rogue, Chip’s Challenge and even ZZT in here, intentional or otherwise. It combines a lot of what made those games fun to play and turns it up to 11.

It’s short, sweet and the world is your oyster in terms of customisation and level creation so hopefully this will be one of the most community-serviced titles on this platforms as it has the potential to be.

Another master piece of David Szymanski, DUSK 82 has to offer a great 8-bit action-puzzler that was used as the prequel of the original classic cult shooter DUSK.

Created in such a simple style, this game reached the expectations that the fans were hopping for the next title of the DUSK series.

I enjoyed the puzzles that the game delivered including the music that was adapted from the first game successfully, meaning that I didnt even felt boring while doing the run of the entire game.

In my final review I would give:

Sketchbots

Sketchbots

It’s a great concept for a game and it’s executed on very well here; I really want to like this game, I really do. However, there are just a couple of complaints that I want addressed.

1. There’s no way to detect the orientation of other bots.

2. There’s no way to store learned information, the bot can’t create a mental map of the environment or do anything else that would require knowing more then what we just did 1 turn ago.

I really enjoy this game! I like the challenge of only being able to recall the last action instead of storing all previous actions to memory, it makes me feel like the bots are very primitive, in a good kind of way. The potential here is really huge, I could see hundreds of puzzles to play from the community one day being a thing. Speed running, do it in X challenges etc. This game deserves more love and attention!

Leylines

Leylines

I am surprised this game has not gained enough attention as I will have to spread the word out about this game.

Here is what I like about this game:

It has a very interesting Hero System meaning as you gain experience points you can spend experience points to improve a number of skills along with improving your main stats of your Hero like health, defense, attack, resist and moving around on the world map. It has at least 20-30 skills you can spend your experience on .

Other 4x games when you gain a level you get some increases based on that new level but in this game you spend your experience as you see fit so there really are no levels in this game so I think it is actually a better system.

Together in Battle

Together in Battle

Together in Battle is a strategy RPG and team management roguelite with vibrant procedurally generated characters and emergent relationship-building. Uncover a sinister conspiracy; fight deep turn-based tactical battles; deal with random events; watch your characters grow together.

Premise

You’ve arrived in the island kingdom of Dese with a secret mission to enter the gladiatorial games and find loyal fighters. Hunted by an imperial praetor, you must maintain a low profile even as you find yourself drawn into intrigues that will decide the fate of Dese itself.

Recruit and manage charming characters. Stay stocked on food, make payroll, and keep your characters practicing. But beware: they have feelings! Let their friends to fall in battle, and they may become depressed. Let morale fall too low, and you’ll risk resentment and desertion. Keep them happy, however, and they will grow close to one another, form fond memories, give nicknames–even share their special combat skills! With skill and patience, you will emerge victorious…together in battle.

An evolution of the lauded Telepath Tactics combat engine

With a deterministic core that never wastes your time, combat in Together in Battle nonetheless features dizzying tactical depth:

  • Backstabbing: strike from behind to avoid counterattacks and score a huge damage bonus!

  • Elevation: claim the high ground to boost your effectiveness and hinder the enemy’s!

  • Knockbacks galore: shove and throw enemies into water, lava, and chasms; off of cliffs; or into each other!

  • Destructible environments: bust down doors, blow up walls, hack through bushes, chop through barricades! If you can see it, you can smash it.

  • Create new structures on the battlefield: build your own bridges and barricades; freeze water to form ice bridges; set traps for enemies to wander into; place explosives to detonate at an opportune moment.

  • Defensive terrain: take up position in tall grass to gain a defense boost–or hack it down to deny that same advantage to the enemy.

  • Extreme turn flexibility: move a character, move a second character, then return to finish the first character’s turn. An unlimited undo stack lets you redo it all if you don’t like where everyone ended up!

  • Clever AI: face enemies that use the terrain to their advantage, take advantage of weak positioning, and compete with you for dropped items.

Tons of content!

You won’t see everything Together in Battle has to offer in a single playthrough–every game offers a new experience. TiB includes:

  • 6 playable species

  • 24 base classes with branching promotions for a total of 72 distinct character classes

  • multi-classing

  • more than 150 skills

  • dozens of random events and side quests

  • hundreds of thousands of possible procedurally generated weapons and pieces of armor, including unique and personal weapons

Deep procedurally generated characters

Every character you recruit has distinct traits, personal histories, beliefs, hobbies, and secrets. You’ll never get the same character twice.

These differences matter: a baker will use food to produce cookies and cakes you can eat or sell; a jokester will do funny impressions to boost morale; a hunter will boost your stocks with wild game; a blacksmith will repair the group’s weapons. Dancers are nimble; sailors are good swimmers. Some characters are prone to depression; some, to self-doubt. Some self-soothe with long walks or prayer; others undertake long-term projects like growing vegetables, crafting dolls, or writing novels. Learn what makes each character tick as they grow and form powerful bonds of friendship!

A campaign creation suite

Together in Battle comes with a campaign creation suite to let you build your own full-fledged SRPG campaigns!

  • Build characters in the character creator!

  • Sculpt battlefields and place armies in the map editor!

  • Compose cut scenes in the cut scene editor!

  • Write branching dialogue trees for both battles and cut scenes using the dialogue editor!

  • Create new skills for your characters to use in the skill editor!

  • Craft new items and equipment for players to loot in the item editor!

  • Need ideas? Let the game roll up full-fledged characters and battles for you to edit (or simply use as-is)!

  • Construct your own scripts, then assign them to items and skills for whatever custom effects you can dream up!

  • Mod support for custom music, sound effects, character classes, AI profiles, and more!

Dudes on a Map: Virtual Grid Paper

Dudes on a Map: Virtual Grid Paper

I can’t say enough about how great this tool is for helping with running my game! It’s simple to pick up and start playing with, without having to study tutorial videos. Easily import your own maps in jpeg form, and you’re on your way to having a great time with friends. There are some ‘fancy’ features, like having 2 different types of fog (one standard and one for secret areas you don’t want to accidentally reveal), marking up areas of effect, initiative tracker, add in your own monster/NPC tokens, and a dice roller (with the option of using symbol dice for different game systems). While these are great, you don’t need to use them if you don’t want to. I tired of trying to learn how to use other systems, and my experience of using dudes has convinced me that I don’t need to while still having a great time with my friends.

Been playing since the earliest Alpha releases. Also, for respectful reasons of this review, I did not get it for free but I am close to the creator so, anyone reading this, perhaps you’ll feel that there’s bias BUT, I will happily preface it at the top here first.

Dudes On A Map, for me, can be described as the easiest non-tech proficient program for playing RPG’s online with your friends. While some may say “Scoff, there’s not nearly as many tools and all these bells and all those whistles.” I would reply to them “Good, I don’t want all that and, to be honest, I don’t want to take a small 101 course just to get my games running.”

WARBORN

WARBORN

I got this game on Steam sale 30% discount for $17.50. It was worth it. It had a very good 41 mission campaign package with interesting story. I did like the characters. The mech design and gameplay mechanics were good. Yes, there were some issues regarding variety of units. Lack of Air or Naval units. I would have love for the pathfinders to have capture ability and even an assault mechs that could hop over mountains. Also, enemy commanders do not have commander mechs or commander powers. This was disappointing. I would have loved to see Pirate Leader or Lyssander Orswell with Commander Mechs and Power like the protagonists. I was able to create simple maps from the Map Editor. It’s not as robust as Wargroove’s Map Editor that allows for conditions and triggers for custom game modes and maps. I think it is ok. Overall, I had fun playing this game.

Real player with 74.6 hrs in game

A gripping enough game. UI is very smooth, better than many high budget games, but do constrain your expectations for the overall experience. I would say it’s probably not worth the full purchase price at this time, even for a mecha fan, due to the sort of repetitive nature of its gameplay and nothing special in the plot department. It gives the impression of not a whole lot of development (Possibly understandable with such a small devteam) followed by tons and tons of polish (Unusual for such a small devteam). It shines in the balance department, being bug-free, fantastic UI. It has some cool robots so you should pick it up on a sale.
