Swarm Universe

Swarm Universe

In one word, this game is “Perfection”. You’re like a swarm of angry bees.

Pros:

  • Simple to learn, hard to master

  • Runs smoothly considering you know what you’re doing

  • Modding = Infinite possibilities

  • The story is hilariously rushed but funny

Cons:

  • The serious modding is BRUTAL.

  • Did I mention how much I hate the Scorpions and Penta-Turrets?

! The early levels are a bit lewd at first glance, because the first enemies look like sperm, and you are a swarm “egg”.

I didn’t know what to expect when a friend recommended this game to me.

Now I’m enthusiastic. Maybe because of the funny guide through the game or the music that drags you into this challenge. The drone-thing is a nice idea by the way. There is so much to improove and discover…. gotta go back to the swarm universe!

great game. totally worth the price. weapons feel good, tons of levels and a hoard mode, and it gets 100x better with friends. my only complaints are the lack of vsync (on linux at least, idk if the windows version has it) and I feel like the weapons system could have been pushed a bit further. I would like to see some more utilities like temporary invisibility or a dash/speed boost. A chainsaw would be cool too. I give a 9/10 considering the price.

I consider myself to be a social gamer, meaning I often don’t gravitate towards games that aren’t specifically made for multiplayer; however a friend of mine wouldn’t stop recommending Definitely Sneaky But Not Sneaky, and now I’m so glad he did. My expectations were surpassed to say the least, and I absolutely loved the Co-op aspect of it, because of how valuable teamwork can be, and how the action of “Accidentally” shooting my own teammate was never met with frustration, rather a seemingly endless hilarity that eventually became part of the game when me and my brother played together.

The visuals and music are fantastic with game play to match.

Feels amazing to play and the extra challenge of getting S Ranks can be addicting.

Gravity Ace takes the good bits of classic 80s shooters and slaps on fresh new coat of–

  • Beautiful pixel art

  • Juicy explosions

  • KIller music

  • Fun lore tidbits

  • Unlimited Replayability

The journey to become an “Ace” starts when you beat the campaign. You get stats and a rank for every level. S, A, B, and so on. Between speedrunning and a slick level editor, hard to say what it means to “beat” Gravity Ace. There’s always something to do.

I could see a pretty fun speedrunning community coming out of this. Would love to see some streamers pick it up.

Early access from 2016 so have to assume this is probably all we get. A bit of a shame really as it has a lot going for it. it’s a really fun little twin stick zombie shooter with a bunch of neat mechanics, upgrades and cute pixel graphics. Seems primarily designed for multiplayer/co-op but it’s great fun solo too. Unfortunately probably owing to early access the campaign is pretty short, still pretty fun though.

Some games that don’t get finished you shrug and move on, some are missed that little bit more, this is one of those that had some real promise to it so it’s a shame we didn’t get to see a bit more it even now.

Fun game to kill time, easy to play and get addicted to. Pixelated graphics, smooth gameplay, many different combinations of weapons allows you to regulate the difficulty of playing the game, some are stronger and synergize better with certain weapons. Although coop is recommended, buying the game at full price is not so.

Already I can see how much work has been put into this game- and it is a major step up from the flash version. It works amazingly, plays good, and most importantly: shows some very promising music. I recommend you check this out, and play through it.

I’m so excited to see the future of this game.

basically Soundodger+ but with a few very good changes:

  • it’s way smoother

  • additional tiny animations

  • 3 new cool bullets

  • more cool options for the bullet object

  • 10 different layers instead of one

  • prefabs

  • bpm snap

  • literally seven new effects

  • cool backgrounds and large theme creativity

  • player settings (which is cool for challenges)

  • overall less limits

and I like all of these additions!

PowBall Renaissance

PowBall Renaissance

Welcome to PowBall Renaissance

This isn’t your classic Breakout game or Arkanoid, however, given that is has open endless possibilities of making your own levels, refusing to purchase upgraded ammunition for your weaponry and adjusting levels to that, you can pretty much play this game in any form or shape you want. Classic, Retro, Modern, or PowBall style.

Make no mistake this game comes with over 300+ levels, including those from PowBall Deluxe, the original game for DOS/Windows.

Good news, game runs perfectly smooth, higher resolution support, and even 4K if you are into that. Level Editor that lets you comprise your own set of master levels with gimmicks of your choice using what the game engine has provided. Perhaps the game may require a Workshop functionality so players can share their own level sets for others to play as a bonus (that is entirely up to steam if I am not mistaken).

Another clone of arkanoid, but the one which tries a new approach to the genre rather than copying its sucess.

I played the original way back since its original release in 1996 and loved it right away, because it innovated the concept. And this remake is brilliant. Also, it is quite stable since it runs very well on my Toshiba laptop and hasn’t crashed not even once.

Even though I prefer the original, do not miss the chance to try this version. It is simply something you need to try before dismissing it as another Arkanoid rip-off. The concept is the same, the gameplay, is quite different. Go take a ride with it.

Tadpole Treble

Tadpole Treble

Ah, Tadpole Treble. A game I have been waiting for since BiTF finished quite a while ago. As somebody who highly enjoyed the musical strips, I was looking forward to see what Taronto would do with his own game. And what do I think of it?

First off, lets talk about the absolute best feature of the game: the music. It’s such a wide variety of genres, and yet EVERY one sounds good. All of them. I suspect witchcraft was involved. Obviously, being a music-based game, this is fantastic, as you’re going to be hearing those tracks a lot. Which brings me to…

PROS:

  • Frankly some of the best music I’ve heard in an indie game. Each song is catchy, fun and makes the soundtrack alone worth the price of the game.

  • A ton of hidden objectives and unlockables that make the game have a surprising amount of replayability. Additional game modes and developer commentary for each level just to name a few.

  • Free demo of the entire composition mode available at: http://bitfinitygames.com/composition-mode-demo/

Double Kick Heroes

Double Kick Heroes

Intro

There have been so many rhythm games over the years varying in overall idea: dancing to music in time, playing plastic guitars in time, pressing keyboard buttons in time, and even racing to music in time. Double Kick Heroes may not seem any different from these other games but it is in one small and simple detail: you aren’t just keeping in time. Being solely based off of the drum beats and patterns, the game focuses on the overall groove of each song rather than just watching the screen and reacting to visual cues. Through my first playthrough of the story mode, I played it like I would any other rhythm game and relied on the visuals to guide me through the songs. The difficulty immediately ramps early in the story however (which i’ll talk about soon) and i found that it was difficult to complete songs, ultimately failing a lot. After practising a little more, I started to get into the groove and into the mindset of a drummer and found it 10x easier to complete every song and ultimately more enjoyable than any other rhythm game.

I’ve tried and bought the game at Stunfest a few days ago. It’s a great game, I definely recommend it !

The songs are really nice and the graphics are pleasant too.

I’m not very familiar rythm games so I had a hard time on some levels (T-Rex for example) but I still managed to beat the game in Metal difficulty. There are currently no level with 3 tracks in that difficulty and you figure out quickly that the second track is optional (the main combo does not reset when you miss the cymbals) so I sometimes just ignored that second track to be a bit more focused on the main one (especially on the tank boss).

HOLY COW! Milking Simulator

HOLY COW! Milking Simulator

A cheeky dash game that doesn’t take itself too seriously!

You control a cow that needs to eat grass to produce milk and then run back to the truck to get milked by a machine. Everything is on a time limit so you had better move fast. The goal is to reach at least the bronze objective to successfully complete a level, but you’re eventually forced to go for silver or gold. The reason for this is that there are roadblocks every five stages that require a certain number of medals.

The grass quality affects how fast you’ll get full. The best one that fills you up in seconds is usually locked behind closed fence. Grass also fills up your poop meter, slowing you down. Because it fills up at the same rate as your milk meter, you have to relieve yourself virtually constantly. Poop is both helpful and annoying. Because your cow can’t walk over it, you can find yourself surrounded by so much poop that you can’t move. Fortunately, it can be destroyed by enemies or their projectiles.
