Super Marxist Twins

Super Marxist Twins

Ever wonder what it would look like if a Soviet state sponsored game developer designed a game to compete with classic side-scrollers while subverting western youth? No? Well we did. Introducing Super Marxist Twins. The evil Tsar Boarov, and his army of capitalist pigs, have stolen The Nation’s resources and left The People with nothing. Now it’s up to brothers Mikhail and Ludmil to collect the stolen resources and defeat Tsar Boarov once and for all. In communist paradise, money does not exist, so surrender your funds and buy Super Marxist Twins! Purchase the game for yourself! Purchase the game for your friends! Purchase the game for The Greater Good.

Features:

  • Classic side scroller platforming and action.

  • Collect resources to power-up the twins! Steel rivets will power-up Mikhail and his hammer-attack, while collecting wheat grains will power-up Ludmil and his mighty sickle-attack

  • Battle an army of assorted enemies ranging from collaborator rats to heavily armed capitalist pigs.

  • Toil away in the Industrial Forge level editor and then share the fruits of your labor with comrades across the internet.

Camera Obscura

Camera Obscura

Camera Obscura is a platformer with an interesting mechanic, but some glaring issues when you’re going for 100% completion. If you’re not, it’s an ok game, but you’ll need some patience anyway. It has alot of unfair and unnecessarily annoying sections, that have not much to do with difficulty and platforming skills but are just plain bad level design.

  • horrible collision detection with enemies. The hitbox is a box with always the same size, even though some animation frames make enemies very small, filling only a tiny spot in that box (slime’s fall animation, for example, for those how already know the game)

Camera Obscura, at face value, is a very simple game: you play as a girl with a camera, making her way through/up a tower towards the top. The story itself is fairly engaging (while not being the most important part of the game), and reveals itself through “mementos” - collectable photographs containing a piece of the story (if you collect them out of order, things might not make much sense; luckily, you can read all of the collected mementos from the main menu). What truly sets this game apart is the camera, and the mechanics behind it.

Copy Kitty

Copy Kitty

Excellent game. The game features two modes to play the game, story and endless. In story mode you play through premade stages, each with unique terrain, where you have to destroy all the target enemies or a boss. Since there are different enemies each stage you always have different powers to copy and combine, which makes the stages even more varied and fun. At first it is not very difficult, but it can be challenging before you get used to the controls, however, after you beat normal mode you can play hard mode, which continues the story, has new enemies and new bosses, the terrain is based on the normal mode equivalent stage, but is often altered in some way. While the game can be difficult at times, these times are often the times when you can become the most powerful. Also, if you lose a boss battle multiple times you usually get tips on how to beat it from Savant, this also applies to some stages that the dev suspects the player might have trouble with.

Magic, robots, lasers, and aliens. Copy Kitty’s one of those games that, taken at face value, seems like chaos. But once you get into it, it still remains chaos; only you’re the one in control of it. The action is intense, and there’s plenty of variety to last for a long time. It’s been described to be somewhat similar to Mega Man, and while I haven’t played those games, I can see where they’re coming from. And even once you’re done burning through all the content Copy Kitty can throw at you, it still provides incentive to get better and perfect what you’ve already done once. There is ALWAYS room for you to improve in this game.

Hoplegs

After spending hours playing the game and completing “The Peak” I have to say this is one of my favorite physic based platformers. The amount of times i’ve fallen and had to start over again was insane but Hoplegs had me coming back for more. There is a really gratifying feeling every time you get past a roadblock that you’ve been stuck on for some time.

The game will only continue to improve and add more content. Personally I can’t wait to see what is in store for the future of the game. (Maybe a Peak v2 who knows??)

I am usually not a fan of games with very little room for error, but Hoplegs is absolutely the exception. What I absolutely love is that that there’s something for everyone. The learning curve is nice and steady at the start so players have the chance to practice getting used to the controls, but The Peak was tailored made for die hard fans of the rage game genre. The tutorials are straightforward, and the aesthetic makes it very enjoyable to continuously play, despite mistakes that put you back. I also LOVE that there’s a level editor available for fans to make their very own levels. Everything about this game makes the “suffering” you go through an enjoyable experience. I’m really excited to see the future of Hoplegs. 10/10

Kid Hallow

Kid Hallow

Like other Hamumu games, Kid Hallow takes a strong core idea (swapping costumes for different abilities) and provides a unique style and complexity that allows for endless variation. Kid Hallow has a simple premise, but it packs in a heap of twists and quirks that elevate it beyond a standard platformer. The levels range from quick and easy to insanely challenging, and the variety between each one keeps you on your toes. Highly recommended if you like arcade style, rapid-fire platforming filled with puzzles, action, bullet dodging, and bodzhas.

Even better than it was when it first came out in 2008 but this includes all the DLC packs for a LOT cheaper!

Lots of hours of game-play with more levels being created all the time!

Hamumu always puts out great games and I’m still playing them 20 years later!

NOTE: Original review written in February 2020

Last updated May 2020 (Some sections of this review might be outdated)

I recommend Platform Builder to ANYONE who want’s to make a really good game, without needing to learn a single line of code, or who wants to just make a game for the fun of it.

Overview:

Platform Builder is sort of a game, yet not a game. It is a videogame development tool. It does contain an example game showing you a tiny fraction of what Platform Builder can do. When I say tiny, I mean tiny. It also contains a section called “Explore” where you can play other people’s games that they have made.

Good game! Perfect to make good platform games easily without programming language! Upgrading to PRO right now!

9.5/10

Edit: Platform Builder it’s a great tool for creating games. Even when it has some limitations, platform builder has the potential to recreate stuff that probably wasn’t imaginated before. Allows you, the user, to create very great games without any knowledge about programming, but, if you still want to program something or get more advanced when creating games, Platform Builder’s command prompt is a good option to start to create your own advanced games. You can also import graphics, sounds, music, backgrounds etc.

My friend speedran the first level of this and I thought I’d check it out. The graphics were off putting at first but i assumed it was just a stylistic choice. Unfortunately they got worse as the game went on with the ice being a vile green. The movement feels too slippery and all the enemies had the same movement. Many of the platform sections felt like they were straight out of a troll game but without the novelty. Whenever you fall in a pit you free fall for about 15 seconds before you re spawn.

IF YOU DISLIKE THE GRAPHICS, I HAVE MADE A GRAPHICS OVERHAUL MOD.

This game is actually pretty good!

I came upon it randomly, while searching for free games with a level editor, and lo, there it was. The big hangup is the graphics - clearly it’s programmer art. But if you can get past that, and play the game itself - it’s pretty fun!

Super fun and chaotic! I could play this game all day! And I have at Gamescom 2019 :)

The look of the game is really unique. I am very curious about the single player and level editor, since I mainly played the multiplayer game in the demo and beta versions.

Can’t wait to continue with this version of the game.

If you don’t mind ruining some friendships playing through the very competitive levels, this is a must purchase!

The game’s just not that fun. The problem solving in the campaign feels like work from driving a clunky and overrealistic car while collecting crates and experimenting through trial and error to figure out exactly where to put parts and get through the track. Nobody plays multiplayer at all either, so free build is pointless without other people to play with.

I wanted to draw spontaneous tracks and goof around. All I got was a half-baked architecture lesson.
