Okay so, at the time of writing this I have 3 bosses down.

Yes, I did back this game. Yes I did play the beta.

I won’t deny this game has a lot of controversy around it. But I’m gonna try to stick to the game itself.

Is it bad? No. Could it be better? yeah, but it’s still satisfying.

Is it worth the hate it gets? No, I would say not.

Most importantly, is the game fun? Yes.

I strongly recommend people play, and I mean actually play, not just the 0.2 hour times we’re seeing in the reviews, and form your own opinion.

Mighty No.9 should be a textbook case of how to not destroy the expectations of everyone who was craving this game. There hasn’t been a Megaman or Megaman X game in years, this should have been a cakewalk for this team to do and other studios have shown they can get very close to getting that Megaman feel. I’ll get this out of the way first- I’m not going to go into the gripes about the Kickstarter campaign, or the long wait, or all the other campaigns that were started before this way finished- they have been discussed to death already and you can check from other sources if you still wish to support the game by buying it.

Adventures of Pip

Adventures of Pip

As a supporter of this game since its first Kickstarter with high hopes and standards for the game, I’m thoroughly glad to be able to finally recommend this game to everyone!

tl;dr: The Adventures of Pip offers a tight and well-balanced puzzle platforming experience bolstered by its strong soundtrack, visuals, and mechanics but marred by a slightly weak story!

Adventures of Pip showcases, well, Pip’s adventure as he seeks to save the land from the evil Skeleton Queen!

The Bit Stream allows him to transform between 3 different forms/resolutions, from a one-bit boxel to a sword-wielding 16-bit warrior. Each form has its own benefits and drawbacks (as a boxel, Pip is slow, weak, but can float and greatly decrease the speed of his fall), allowing for many variations in gameplay as you evolve and devolve Pip to solve the many puzzles in the game! It’s an awesome concept utilized very well in conjunction with the tight controls and varying game mechanics!

$15.00 are they serious???

While the game is nowhere near worth that price, it is a very fun, occasionally challenging platformer to play. The story is that some evil queen has kidnapped the kingdom’s princess knowing that she has the ability to create pixels from nothingness. The queen hopes to absorb this power and reverse it, turning game characters in the kingdom back to pixels. The queen further wreaks havoc on the kingdom by taking 108 of its villagers and hiding them in a variety of 5 landscapes that have been divided into 36 levels for your gaming pleasure. Like always the Evil queen lets the power get to her head and for no reason whatsoever decides that she needs to turn everyone into a pixel so that they no longer are a threat.

An absolute mind blowing experience. This is the Mona Lisa of video games. Had my mind not been destroyed by the first two levels I would have more than 25 minutes into this astonishing accomplishment of our modern times.

Extreme Real Reality HD Remix is a quaint romp through a modern town featuring a loveable and relateable main character Carlo that may or may not be loosely based on someone you know.

For only a dollar (or less) you, too, can experience.

What can I say about this game? Seriously having a hard time articulating a detailed analysis because my inner-fanboy is squeeing with intense delight. This game is truly masterful. A game created by a small team whom you can tell are creating something they themselves truly enjoy.

I think that is the best way to describe this game. An indie developed, JRPG-inspired RPG that was created by players who love those types of games themselves and it shows in so many ways. The quirky, sometimes downright stupid (I mean that in the most lovingly way possible like a dumb, cute puppy) dialogue, the battle system with it’s difficulties and strategies, and even the artwork and music. All of it shows a passion that few other teams can match.

7/10

Non-spoiler afterthoughts/feedback:

This game had a lot of what I love about classic RPGs in a nutshell. The art is definitely very good quality and the OST tracks are immersive though they struggle with awkward loops at times. There are times where there should be some music or sound effects that leave you in complete silence, also. It struggles a bit in plot coherency & depth, but makes up for it in other areas. Encountered a few bugs which seem to exist pretty late into this game’s post-release development (mostly related to battle mechanics, player/enemy stats & menu options bugs). Some humorous dialogue at times, definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously and isn’t afraid to reveal that it draws a lot of inspiration from other games. I like the additions that the DLC brings but I do wish it had been integrated in a way that made more sense in the timeline of how the player’s progress naturally flows.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Shovel Knight is essentially the mascot for indie games, tied with Undertale in that regard, and for good reason. Shovel Knight provides a challenging yet fair and fun platforming game with the single best pixel art I have seen in a game. Period. There is no reason to not buy and play Shovel Knight, it has something for everyone and anyone.

I nearly quit gaming about a decade ago. Then I played Shovel Knight and it reminded me that games can just be charming and fun. Never looked back :)

All of these campaigns are well worth your time but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to space playing them out a bit. I played them as they were released so had no problems but I could easily see myself getting burnt out playing all 4 back-to-back. Your mileage may vary though.

Well worth picking up the soundtrack too - many of these make great ringtones :) Jake Kaufman is a genius.

ToeJam and Earl: Back In The Groove is a wonderful and super fun game and amazing for multiplayer co-op. This is a remake of the original in terms of gameplay but with extra content and a new story, new characters and new presents. There are lots of new earthlings as well and some new world types (biomes?).

This game is as close to being as good as the original as you can get while coming up just shy of it. I think the thing I found that I liked the least were the new sound effects. It took a while to figure it out but I think if I was able to use the original sound effects in the new game I would enjoy the experience more. The sound effects from new content however are no issue, but all the new versions of the old sound effects are not as good.

Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan

Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan

For lack of a better words to describe what this is, this is a JRPG. It also draws on Shonen genre of manga. It has a structure similar to many of the older japanese RPG games. This is a very vague term to use though, because there are a diverse set of games under that category. Regardless, if you have played that sort of game the gameplay outside combat will be immediately familiar. It even has overworld bits where you walk a tiny sprite between towns.

Finally, I say it is Shonen because it is reminiscent of a certain kind of manga and anime for young males. You pretty much play African Goku. You do not pilot increasingly larger robots but you do sorta gain Stands. Whether that appeals to you or not is a matter of personal preference. If you like badarsery, this game has you covered. Very powerful people perform superhuman feats and have very flashy duels after frankly talking about why they have to fight. A young man discovers himself and his place in the world. Lessons are learned. It is that kind of tale.

The story follows young prince Enzo Kori-Odan who is to become king of a peaceful little country Zama, although he is doubting his skills in the first place. On his coronation day he is also marrying his beloved Erine. Future looks bright and full of happiness, what could go wrong? Everything.

Zama finds itself under attack in an attempt of coup d’état and despite great effort from Enzo in defending his people he is defeated. Nama, teacher and master of Enzo, saves the newlywed young couple from the worst case scenario. The king and his queen, who stood by his side, are then exiled. Both of them are for the first time away from Zama and are confronted with harsh unforgiving reality. The difference between Zama and other countries surprised them. World and people around them are full of misery, cruelty, hate and so on. They have to become more powerful to be able to come back home victorious. Their travels across the land will test them, put them on the edge of their strength, to see if they can become the truthful King and Queen of Zama.

very good GBA style game like Metroid II but too damn short. I hope for more content to arrive that kickstarter funded it, like colors, new optional bosses and post-game.

This game is purely good! I hope someone tries it.

I first back this game on Kickstarter, recently downloaded it, and enjoyed playing this game. It was always a treat to find each new ability, and then go back to find the life orbs and missile packs. The developer said he’s working on adding more content to the game, so be sure to keep an eye on this game’s progress :)
