Nocturne: Prelude

Nocturne: Prelude

I rather enjoyed this game, for many reasons, and would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy the following:

-The character you play as, while it is a set character, is very androgynous, allowing you to play as any gender you want. You can also change the name of your character to whatever you want.

-The setup of the game (there’s a main storyline, but free exploration is encouraged), art, and catchy music reminded me of Legends of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which was a wonderful game.

-It’s free!

I have never played a single rhythm game before, so I review this as an absolute beginner.

  • Gameplay

The easy mode is perfectly suited for those who’ve never played a rhythm game before. It’s pretty standard rhythm gameplay with some rpg elements mixed in to spruce it up a bit. I really like the fact that if you’re struggling with a fight, you can look around to see if there’s some better equipment laying around.

There’s random encounters which I’m usually not a big fan of, but it makes sense for an RPG. These random encounters though are great because they let you, you know, play the rhythm part of the game!

Rathe: The Beginning

Rathe: The Beginning

ok sadly this game has only 1 plus point so far: the character creation. you can select your class, stats and it even has custom skins for each of the classes which is really nice and almost no game i know of offers this. this is also the main reason i gave this game a chance.

however i didnt play very far, the game is just not polished enough. 2 seconds into the game and the first bug came up:

if you walk too fast out of the room then first quest doesnt even start.

then there too many ghost doors and people. you can walk through them like they are not even there. or characters stand on walls inside some houses.

Lamia Must Die

Lamia Must Die

(If TL;DR, then watch my less eloquent review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mho_vEQHzIw )

I spent a long time trying to elaborate on what I want to say about this game, but after hours of thinking, I realized it would be best if I put it thusly:

1.This game’s mechanics are really good and consistent with little to no gameplay glitches

2.The graphics look nice but are not accurately displayed or scaled correctly in a consistant manner at any resolution it offers

3. Voice actor audio can cut out but at least it’s consistent when it does (ie the same audio cuts off in a cutscene no matter how many times you play through it)

Lamia Must Die. . .Eventually. . . Just as soon as I stop dying.

Lamia Must Die is a game of adventure wherein you are not just one person but rather four people. You can change two of your party members and their styles are definitely unique. You adventure into a dungeon and skip all the trash tier monsters completely. The only game play is a big epic boss battle.

Graphics and Art

The graphics are not that good, but it’s excuseable. This game runs mainly on artwork and pictures anyway and it’s played through various GUI’s, which all look and feel rather fluid and work well. The artwork itself is rather nice and sometimes kind of mediocre, though certainly better than I could care to draw. I’m not completely convinced that some of the pictures of the characters drawn were drawn by the creators of the game or anyone they hired. I don’t think they were commissions and rather just something free. If they were drawn by the creators then I ask why there is no consistency in the art work. Some of it looks great while others look like it was drawn by a complete ametuer who had way too much interest in tits. I of course refer primarily to Lamia.

Cat of Monte Cristo

Cat of Monte Cristo

A short RPG that is a parody based on the Count of Monte Cristo, with many liberties taken that make it not very close to the original story. It’s got turn based combat. It’s about 2-3 hours long, with a few boss fights in it. It has over 40 maps. There are some jokes and humor that make it really neat. It has a decent amount of characters from the 1844 novel. It’s a pixel RPG based on everyone’s favorite Alexander Dumas book, made in RPGmaker MZ.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Ratings 9/10 (Dynamic Open World)

Just like Wormskull, Verdungo is another excellent RPG Maker game that is made by the single developer, Shane. The game world is a huge big open world, but what is amazing is that the game world is dynamic and evolves based on the decisions of the main character. So the player’s decision matters, and has a big profound effect on the dynamic game world. Let me give a few concrete examples.

There are 10 different factions in the game world, and your decision to aid, hinder or even attack different factions will have deep lasting influences in the game world.

I am a huge fan of these traditional and turn based rpgs –– I own more than a hundred, and have played the vast majority of them. And I can say with no reservations that this game is simply a masterpiece.

It has everything a fan could want with the quick and involving pace that can be impossible to turn away from (check the hours played), the crafting of various items, the mining, the fishing, the side quests, the secrets to discover, and the tons of treasures to collect. I guarantee you will be completely absorbed.

Emperium

Emperium

For context, I have a level 40 party and am working on hard dungeon gear farming and infusions currently. The game in it’s current state is enjoyable though a few of the systems need clarification in the tutorial (which is under development). For $1 I have played 7 hours and am progressing. The real fun comes when you have a full party and the boss mechanics come into play. I even defeated a world boss for an epic bracelet earlier, which is part of a set! The job and skill systems are surprisingly deep. This is worth the change, give it a try.

Simple and fun game. Very short, unless there is more stuff to do Im not aware of, but I found it enjoyable for how laid back the game is. The controls were hard to get used to, but once I did there wasn’t really any issue. Definitely an early access game as certain things don’t seem to be there or got weirdly cut off, but from what I see the dev updates the game often so Im sure it will be fun to keep up with. :)
