Persona 4 Golden

Persona 4 Golden

Definately the Definitive version of this game. Don’t expect it to be as grand as Persona 5 or as slick. BUT. The story is a classic and all the elements are there. It looks great and runs well. There are few games that were as loved as this one and it’s not aged too badly. If you don’t mind graphics that are a little old and you like social sims or dungeon crawling or RPGs in general, it’s honestly worth trying. If you want to experience all of the game to its fullest then try out all aspects of the game and hang out with classmates and do the other activities. The game rewards you greatly!

The truth of this story…

Persona 4 is one of those games that will stay forever in your hears, not because of the mechanics, since this is applied a very old implementation of the Turn-Based RPG, but because of its story and characters.

The Story of persona 4 is amazing, a very cool mystery game with a mystic aura around the concept of the Truth Self and the TV World, the first 4 episodes were made to introduce the characters and mechanics in different ways, giving all the dungeons an special feeling, meanwhile around the end of

! Naoto’s dungeon the story spikes and a lot of plot twists happen around the mystery.

FINAL FANTASY IX

FINAL FANTASY IX

TL;DR: Every long-life gamer has that particular game considered life-changing. To me, Final Fantasy IX is that game. And to me, this is the best game that a life being have ever crafted. Yes, I say “life being”, not “human”, because I’m assuming aliens have their own videogames. But they won’t be as good as Final Fantasy IX.

–————-

Okay, here comes a very long review. I’ve been waiting this for so long.

First of all, completely ignore my time count on Steam for this game. I’ve put 1000h+ into it, and I can easily make a perfect run by memory. Do you know that particular favorite movie you watch every single year? Well, I do that but with this game.

While I do recommend this game, I’d suggest getting it only if it’s been discounted. Final Fantasy IX is my absolute favorite game of all time but this “remaster” leaves a lot to be desired.

As mentioned in many, many other reviews, the new interface is really big and ugly and is clearly just the same interface they used for the mobile port. The original interface was actually quite good and it’s a shame it wasn’t restored for the PC port.

Sadly, there’s also a lot of bugs that have gone unfixed since launch, most notably the overworld music glitch. It likely won’t be terribly noticeable to those new to the game but in the original upon entering a random encounter the overworld music would actually pause so that when you exited battle it would pick up where it left off. That is sadly not the case in this version. Every time you have an encounter the music will restart. This is incredibly annoying and quite upsetting since Over the Hills is a beautiful and LONG song but it is perpetually restarted nearly every 10 seconds as encounters are fairly common. This IS a jrpg from 2000, afterall.

I am Setsuna

I am Setsuna

Man. 19-year-old me was a bit of a bitch, huh?

I just recently started playing this game again, because I was curious if my opinion on it would have changed at all in literally 5+ years.

…and it did.

I still don’t think I am Setsuna is the best RPG out there, but it never really tried to be. It was meant to be an homage to Chrono Trigger and FFX from the very beginning, and it accomplished that with flying colors.

I think the early game balance is a bit wonky, still. But Fluxation and Singularity are less random than I had first assumed, especially by the end game, and the sheer amount of customization you have for the characters is not to be discounted. Once I figured out how Fluxation and Momentum Mode tied in together, once I figured out how to really dig into this game’s mechanics, I was able to appreciate how competently this game was put together.

Before I begin, I’d like to establish the following: my goal is not to coerce you into buying the game based on this review. Rather, to facilitate making your own decision on whether it’s worthwhile spending money on this game or not.

I am Setsuna is a JRPG developed by Tokyo RPG Factory and published by Square Enix. As you might have already seen from trailers and screenshots, the game takes place in a frozen land permanently covered in snow, following the story of a young woman named Setsuna on her journey to the Last Lands, a place where she is to offer herself as a sacrifice to mitigate the constant monster attacks ocurring in human settlements across the world. It touts itself for being heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger, and for a good reason: the battle system is nearly identical. But instead of simply tacking the same mechanics the source material is known for, they decided to build ontop of it by:

Secret of Mana

Secret of Mana

I had this game on my wishlist for some time now. I read the comments, and I was really impressed of the huge amount of negative recommendments. But today I decide to check SoM by myself and I invested the 40€.

Here are my first impressions: (will be edited, if necessary)

1. I played SoM in 1994 and later like hell. On the SNES with my best friend, tag team. We have never ever had a game, playing so many hours together in that days before or after SoM. It was just the best! Better than Secrets of Evermore or Lufia.

9/10 A great example of what a remake should be.

I just finished playing my second playthrough of this game, and I am happy to report that throughout my two runs through the game, I never had any of the game crashes or problems that other players have mentioned having, so either the game has been patch-fixed since then, or the game just got along with my computer. In any case, the crashes were my main concern with buying this game, so if you’re on the fence about getting it because of those posts, I would just go for it, because this game has been great.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC

Trails in the sky second chapter is one of the best JRPGs that I ever had the chance to play. I recommend this game to every JRPG fan….unless you REALLY hate text. This game has a lot of dialogues, it always flow exceptionally well but If you don’t like text, go see some gameplay footage before buying the game. The dialogues are always good to read, they’re never meaningless and are very well written. They make you laugh and sometimes you feel the need to shed a tear.

This game focus heavily on story and character development but even if you’re not interested in theses you may find Trails in the sky sc to be one of your favorite games thanks to it’s gameplay. I think the trails’s series gameplay is awesome. This game use the same battle system than the first chapter and makes it even better. The heavier emphasis on crafts (rather than arts) makes regular battles faster. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Trails in the sky’s battle system, it’s a turn by turn battle system that takes place on a field in which you can move your characters. You have to consider both you positioning and the time bar that indicates when comes your turn to succeed. It’s a solid system that requires the use of careful planning. Don’t worry tough, the game’s difficulty is well balanced and if you found it too hard or too easy, you can always change the game’s difficulty settings.

Short version of the review: If you hate JRPGs, slow-paced JRPGs or non-action games, play something else. Otherwise, if you can get past a bit of rust you can enjoy a very well explored, lengthy setting with good customization and competent combat that has related titles still releasing as of 2016. There isn’t much in the genre that can compete with this series in terms of scope, interconnectivity and character development. This game also taught me that force-feeding your angriest friend tomato sandwiches will allow them to kill anything.

Ys I & II Chronicles+

Ys I & II Chronicles+

Useless bit of trivia first.

The amount of times these games have been redone is truly mindblowing, but then again Ys has been around since 1987. What we have here is an enhanced port of a PSP port of an enhanced edition of a windows remake of a combined turbografx-16/pc-engine remake of a pair of games on an ancient japanese pc. Rolls right off the tongue and I’m not even gonna get into how many ports the original games themselves got. I’m fairly certain this won’t be the last remake either.

This game screams: Epic. Retro. Action RPG. While we’re at it, Ys Chronicles+ kicks Major Ass (this is an E rated review)! The game mechanics are so simple and so addictive that you can literally spend hours grinding monsters, just because! And then you look at the clock and think, “Holy Pants! It’s tomorrow! …But maybe just a little longer…” and then you turn into a zombie. Yea, this is a hyperbole, but it’s not as much of an overstatement as you might think.

And did I mention that this is a package of two games? Quick history lesson. When Falcom was developing Ys, limitations forced them to split the epic into two, resulting in two games, Ys I and II, collectively called (in this case) The Ys Chronicles (Ys Complete, Ys Eternal, Ys Epic Remake VII, these two games have seen a plethora of remakes, and Ys Chronicles+ is the latest and arguably greatest).

Ys Origin

Ys Origin

The Ys series is quite a mixed bag. I played Ys Origin after playing Ys 1 & 2 (since that is the order they were released in, though obviously “Origin” is a prequel). I wasn’t hugely impressed by Ys 1 & 2 - they were kind of ok, but had lots of issues; the lore was uninteresting and the story didn’t really resonate and the gameplay itself was … tepid.

Ys Origin, however, breaks free from the earlier games by radically changing the gameplay, and this is a good thing. Rather than an Ultima-style open world framework that the earlier games used, Origin simplifies all that to become effectively a linear dungeon crawler threaded through a series of highly structured narratives. The gameplay itself is distilled down to much more enjoyable and consistent core combat mechanics, while retaining the structure of building up to periodic challenging boss fights.

Isometric, Action, RPG, Multiple Characters

In Ys you play as one of three selectable characters and go through their journey in order to help the goddesses fight off evil that dwells within the tower. Each character has their own dialogue and conflicts most notably the secret third character has a lot more bosses than the other two.

Progression

Traveling from floor to floor can take some time, luckily you have goddess statues that teleport you instantly to other statues you have unlocked along your travels in the giant tower. This allows the player to be able to teleport to any floor he thinks requires more exploring weather its to grab a item he missed or simply to teleport back to floor 1 for upgrades. Not only that but you are fully healed when in range of the goddess statue, you can also save.

FINAL FANTASY® XIII

FINAL FANTASY® XIII

From what I have gathered, this game is somewhat controversial. I have 3 playthroughs now, looking forward to a 4th, and I would like to bring up a few points and offer my opinions, that potential players might have a better perspective on the game beforehand. This review will be quite lengthy, for there is a lot to cover, even scratching the surface as I am. I assure you there are no story spoilers.

Journey - The game is very linear. The first 80% of the story takes you on a singular path from one locale to the next, with little deviation, before it opens up into the main side-questing hub. (Firsttime players: at this point, I strongly advise following the map and pressing on with the main story for the best experience; there will be plenty of time later to complete this content, and you will be much better prepared.) Those of you looking for a cohesive, story-driven rpg that will keep you glued to your controller for 40 hours before you even get to the endgame, look no further.

God have mercy on my soul

This is without a doubt the most difficult review I’ve ever written, but this game is so fascinating from multiple perspectives; I’ve challenged myself to throw my hat into the ring and explain why I resonate with it despite the overt shortcomings.

It’s my Focus, really.

FFXIII is a game that was fraught with a lot opposing views amongst Square Enix’s devs on how to create a “perfect hybrid” between inputting command-based strategies for party members whilst being simultaneously cinematic akin to the battles found in FFVII: Advent Children, an animated film adaption of the highly adulated FFVII.

I am going on a FF spree and it’s thanks to FF8 here. Honestly very unique and interesting game vs the rest of the series. Though you’re either going to enjoy this game’s quirky and complex Draw/card/GF system or you are going to despise it with your entire existence. I like quirky systems, so I didn’t mind it. In fact, I liked it a lot. Triple Triad was honestly the funnest side-game or mini-game that I’ve played in any game.

I found it to be a fun experience, despite its flaws. If magic and GF cut scenes were faster/skipable, I think this game would be ten times better lol.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster

NOTE: This game requires you to set the PAGE FILE on your pc to custom and set the minimum to 4 GB, BUT ONLY IF YOUR WHOLE PC CRASHES OR IF YOU HAVE CONSTANT CRASHES ALL THE TIME IN THE GAME. Windows Os will automatically make it only 16MB after each update too, which will make the game crash. Thanks to Steam user {TTV/1MantisPhoenix/ for suggesting below on how to do this. So far, this fix has made it so FFX/X-2 remaster has not crashed as constanty as before, although it still crashes time from time. For maximum paging file, you need to determine how much HDD and RAM you have on your pc. This will differ from pc to pc. You should try this fix only if you game crashes your whole pc. If your game is only crashing to desktop, that is a power management problem and sleep mode problem. Set them to never and it will fix that issue Check this link below to see more info on page file setup:

The reason I got into all the Final Fantasy titles

Where to begin…? This game is chock-full of things to do. 250+ hours of gaming, easily. And you’ll probably come back to it for nostalgia, and for the feels. So many different feels.

The setting: Tidus (Teedus, or Tydus? I say Tydus) is our main protagonist, and his life turns upside-down when Sin attacks and apparently flings him 1000 years into the future. The truth is far more sinister, but he ends up journeying with Yuna on her pilgrimage to receive the Final Aeon so as to defeat Sin.
