ACE COMBAT™ 7: SKIES UNKNOWN

ACE COMBAT™ 7: SKIES UNKNOWN

Ace Combat 7 is an amazing game aswell as a good return-to-form for Project Aces. One thing I like the most is the gameplay, no doubt out of all the Ace Combat games I’ve played Skies Unknown has the absolute best. It’s as intense and high-octane as running from a guard dog, the only difference being it’s actually fun. But everything else is sort of lacking, and pales in comparison to the older games. The story is kinda… Meh. I loved the whole suicide-squad-esque story it had going on during the 444 missions, but everything after that started to get kind of dull. The DLC missions are wonderful though, my personal favorite being Anchorhead Raid. The soundtrack is good albeit kind of boring (even Daredevil. They use the Daredevil motif in a bunch of the songs here and it gets boring very quickly. Or well, atleast in my experience), that is except Magic Spear! Magic Spear is absolutely amazing and I love it with all my heart.

It’s a great game for anyone interested in Fighter Jets. Note: THIS IS NOT A SIMULATOR.

I’ve had plenty of fun flying around in a jet, taking out enemies left and right, it also has an interesting story, that is not at all confusing if you knowledge of the timeline prior to this.

The music is also amazing.

Multiplayer is kinda dead though with only two modes.

FlyManMissile

FlyManMissile

This not complicated game does demand a steady hand with the mouse.

Precision, timing, and anticipation are fundamental here.

Wish it would be Gamepad/Controller compatible (Logitech F310/ X Box style).

Please let us mute or simply turn off the “nursery bedtime music”, before the air horns alarm triggers on.

Time of day options should also be considered someday.

This would permit lower brightness levels, thus less glare and saturation in Flyman view.

All this sitting “comfortably” on the missile.

Project Wingman

Project Wingman feels like playing an Ace Combat game, but where Ace Combat flirts a little with it’s crazier aspects, Project Wingman embraces them. And it is all the better for it.

It takes a lot for a game with a campaign to get me to actually finish it because I usually end up distracted by another game before I do so. But with PW I haven’t just cleared it once, but multiple times already. Sometimes I just play a few missions for no other reason than that the game is just that much fun and I have nothing else quite like it.

A beautiful post-rapture future in which California has finally been destroyed with all of its subhuman inhabitants, and all warfare is fought by huge swarms of advanced jet fighters. Where mercenary units can afford warplanes that would bankrupt small nations, and wars are fought over “Cordium,” a magic rock that allows scientists to subvert the inverse-square law.

Welcome to Project Wingman.

It’s best not to think of this game as a jet pilot simulator. It is a jet pilot movie simulator, much like Ace Combat. You control a warplane with an absurd capacity for missiles, and slaughter tens of thousands of enemies, like a wrathful god soaring on wings of steel. Play through a memorable campaign full of shocking twists and intensely frustrating missions. Replay these missions with a wide variety of jets, from clunky but awesome ground attack planes to sleek, sexy air superiority fighters. After you get bored of that, Conquest Mode may tickle your desire to fight 50 airships in one mission. There’s not a lot to say: If you’ve run out of Ace Combat games to play, pick this one up.

AFTERBURN

AFTERBURN

I was a really big fan of Morfeo’s previous game, Furious Angels and have been waiting for this game for a long time and I’ve gotta say; totally worth the wait. I’ve been a huge fan of piloting games since Ace Combat on the PS2 and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge on Xbox and this game honestly reminded me how much I love flying games! (Anyone got any recommendations? I’ve had a taste and I need more now! lol)

This game can be kind of frustrating to master (I was about ready to smash my face into the keyboard at attempt 250 but the sense of accomplishment I felt from finishing it was like nothing else.) but it’s control scheme is very intuitive, especially if you’ve played Furious Angels, and it’s very easy to pick up. I haven’t tried controller or joystick, but with a mouse (you don’t even need a keyboard at the moment but possible in the future it’ll be needed) to play this game without any issues. I have heard from others that it works just fine with a wide number of other controllers too if that’s more your style.

AFTERBURN is a strange game, in the same vein that it’s an incredibly fun one with a nostalgic feel to it. Do you remember the arcade cabinets of the days of yore that had those old joystick dogfighting games? Do you remember that one Tom Clancy arcade cabinet where you climbed into that ball and it’d shake and move around as you flew your fighter jet all over the place? AFTERBURN does a good job at bringing some of those feelings back.

While it might not have music or any proper soundtrack to speak of, I’d say one of the biggest strengths is being able to put your own playlist on and sit down for a 30-45 minute session. The game will hold your attention for a few runs instead of the majority of the day, but I’d say that’s a strength. AFTERBURN is what I’d qualify as a painkiller, a game you sit down and boot up when you need a quick distraction or just want to forget about things…

This game is fucking awesome. I don’t really know what to say about it but this game feels really good, its fun, has a nice community, mods. the game feels realistic but very easy for anyone to pick up and improve, most of the technology in-game actually exists irl, but in-game its very simplified

great game, tons of amazing modded maps and planes. if you like any flight sim get this. its controls are super easy to learn, understanding weapons may take some time but you will learn it pretty fast if you just watch a couple videos and play with them yourself.

Story

Advances in radar technology have made stealth fighters commonplace.

The Willsword country has developed the latest fighter XF -98. It is a fighter with high attack power and incredible durability.

The MD armor of the fighter greatly reduced radar performance.

MD armor is an armor that weakens an enemy missile by irradiating it with high-power laser and EMP.

Willsword further evolved the XF -98 into the “XF -99 Artemis”.

The fighter became the ultimate invincible fighter and was feared by Maxell’s pilots as a “Air fortress”.

Snow Strike

I love being able to play games like this but my problem with these older games is that it doesn’t give you a controls configuration . I literally had to go online to look it up and from my experience finding the a sit the shows the controls was not the easiest thing . I feel like I shouldn’t have to go through such extent to find controls to a game which I already paid for. Steam could at least have the courtesy of tweaking the games to work with more modern configurations because this was no walk in the park . Having to press weird button configurations like * (shift 8) to start my jet engine !!! like seriously what kind of bullsh*t is that and I could go on but if buy and played this game for the first time then you’ll know what I mean.

The game itself was gifted to me as a prank. Tried to get all the achievements and got stuck because of a glitch. Reported it and it got fixed. Love seeing such an activity form the dev’s side.

The game itself is quite short but to be honest - it hade some challenging moments which I liked. Worth getting this as a prank, had some fun for a while.

Real player with 1.6 hrs in game

It’s pure adrenaline fun. If you ever wanted to just jump in and shoot stuff, this is it. Minimal mission briefing is all you get as background story unlike the demo for their latest iteration called Massive Air Combat; that one has a pretty nice cutscene and you get to fly a heavier aircraft but since it’s a demo we get to see only one in the 1 mission in the demo.

Considering that it costs me only about 0.6 SGD, it’s a pretty good bang for the buck, pardon the pun. So, it is an arcade flight game and the good thing is; it doesn’t go overboard with the arcade freedom of latitude. Since version 2.2 there were some physics restrictions introduced and gameplay tweaks which makes the game a bit closer to reality and a bit tougher. There is no difficulty setting but if you want an easier time, maybe version 1.0 is the way to go. You can opt for that in the Beta version of the game in the Steam UI.
