Isotiles - Isometric Puzzle Game

Isotiles - Isometric Puzzle Game

Honestly, a fun and cute puzzle game. Got a 10% off coupon from a badge and had no idea what to expect. What I got was a set of 50 challenges, some pretty easy, some a little bit difficult (but not impossibly so). If you’re looking for a simple brainteaser then this is a good bang-for-your-buck. But I’d say pass it if you’re looking to jack your blood pressure up and pull your hair out over a puzzle.

Overall, I liked it. I loved the light music (that you can turn off if you don’t want it, don’t worry) and the cute little block. Not sure if the replay value is high, but for a game that’s 2 bucks it’s worth the hour of fun.

A good game if you like wasting time with something that literally would be found on a site like coolmathgames FOR FREE!

Basic plot synopsis:

You play as buzz light year(moar liek buzz tight rear) turned into a cube for some unexplained reason in a twisted nightmare in which he must step on squares for all of eternity in this freak reality. That’s basically it, buzz must step on all squares in order to advance to the next monotonous level in which the controls are an even greater threat than solving the “puzzles” if you could call them that. The controls are often the cause of mess ups, I would find myself going in a direction I didn’t even intend to but you do get used to it eventually. Yeah, this game isn’t worth two dollars and I got it steeply discounted from a coupon. It’s not worth it.

Slikoban

Slikoban

[EN/US]

SlikoBan is another game inspired by the Sokoban game genre and you have to put some colored blocks in the right spots by pushing them through the levels. The difference between Sliko and SlikoBan is that in the later one you can push the blocks any number of tiles you want, although that should make the game easier that’s not what happens here. The game is difficult and the late level are kinda frustrating. But it’s difficulty doesn’t make it a bad game, quite the opposite, is the challenge that makes it a good game.

I dont play stealth games often but this was actually not that bad. Apart from the gore it has. The enemies AI walk into thier own traps HAHA probably the most funny thing about this game I would say you should probably buy this when its on discount otherwise there are better games. Good game. Needs more Updates and Levels

[EN/US]

Sliko is a type of Sokoban game where you have to put some colored blocks in the right spots by sliding them through the levels and despite it’s simple gameplay the levels can be somewhat difficult. The difficult increases little by little, level by level, but there as some early levels that are way harder than some late ones. All in all, Sliko is a great game and it’s worthy its cost.

[PT/BR]

Nice game! The game is simple, objective, with good graphics and challenging. Another highlight is the relaxing soundtrack, looking forward to the continuation and dlc’s.

IT’S ABOUT TIME!

Frankly this is probably old news to many of you reading this. I’m ashamed that I didn’t know about these Spiderweb titles previously.

Gather round me children, for there’s a tale I’d like to share. Once there was a time when video games entertained the player an immersive story and provocative challenges that kept you playing for hours.

I’ve never liked the term “dungeon crawler”. To me the crawler part implies slow which let’s be honest, is generally associated with boring in the world of books, movies and video games. When was the last time you couldn’t wait to dig in to a slow book someone recommended?

Almost six years. That’s how long it took me to finally finish this game.

Not because of its difficulty, technical issues or anything like that. Instead, I have to attribute it to my own stubborn nature and the game itself disappointing me at first and, well, second glance. So yeah, with a third try last week I finally powered through and this time around my enjoyment was far greater.

The question then remains, what prevented me from doing so the first two times? Well, back then I was expecting an experience very similar to Avernum: Escape From the Pit. Oh boy, was I in for a surprise. Avadon: The Black Fortress changes up the Spiderweb Software formula on various levels. In some areas there are definite improvements to be found compared to the company’s older games. The dialogue and story are arguably better than that of the Avernum series. I would even go so far as stating that it can be more captivating than Avernum: Escape From the Pit at times.

Enchanted Path

Enchanted Path

Pleasant puzzle game but with some trial-and-error elements

As other Nannings titles, this one has a free version available on browser.

A pathing puzzle, Enchanted Path is an isometric game, with arrows (re-bindable) or gamepad moving the protagonist in diagonal directions. This kind of control is always confusing for me. You can opt to use mouse, like I did, to click the control in the right-hand corner.

Your task is to grab all the gems, then head for the revealed exit. As some paths are usually locked after visiting once or twice, you need to plan the route beforehand.

Atmospheric isometric puzzler. Collect green crystals to open the portal that brings you to the next level. Find the right path and don’t fall into the abyss.

The game has 30 levels. Later levels will be more challenging and more different tiles will be introduced. The player moves on a grid of tiles. Some of these tiles will be disappearing when you are stepping off it and others will teleport you to another place. One tile acts as a cage with another that will free you from entrapment. There is even a tile that creates more tiles!

To fit in with the rest of my visual novel library, I’d have to give this game the merit of being the least sexual visual novel I have played. The cutscenes are short but inspire introspection and deep thinking. The gameplay, while confusing, is deeply entertaining. Since the beta I received, I have unlocked all secret endings, and I must say, the devs know their writing.

Avadon 2: The Corruption

Avadon 2: The Corruption

I have to admit that I put this game off for far longer than I should of, it has been such a treat and such a good reminder that great games don’t always come in shiny packages . I have played hundreds of CRPG’s over the past 20+ years, on dozens of different consoles and this game really “did it” for me. Avadon 2 is no “Divinity Original Sin” but I still enjoyed it nearly as much, the game is a blast if not a little rough around the edges like me.

Avadon 2 is a rather large CRPG, is has a deep and intricate storyline which I found pretty original among CRPG’s. Avadon 2 has wonderful “original in style” character creation, character building systems and the game even has some secrets ??? : ). It has challenging combat which scales greatly depending what difficulty you chose and which takes place using a Grid Based, Turn Based, Action Point combat system. The combat in Avadon 2 feels very similar to the combat in the early Fallout games (1&2) but the fixed viewpoint is a little more Roguelike in nature. As I eluded to with the secrets comment earlier, exploration in Avadon is fun and there are fights, loot and secrets to be found by the patient and meticulous types of players.

Avadon 2 is the direct sequel to Avadon: The Black Fortress. You take control of a new band of heroes as you wield your might on behalf of Avadon.

Battles are turn based and are governed by action points, which are expended through both movement and use of skills. As expected, health and stamina bars are also present alongside four core stats - strength, dexterity, intelligence and endurance. Additionally each character also has resistances to four damage types and four possible status effects. Character builds are developed using a skill tree, which requires you to pump more points into particular branches if you want to reap the full benefits of a particular branch. There is a retrainer NPC who allows you to redistribute all your points if you are ever unhappy with your character build, but you need to reach a particular point in the game before they become available. There are five possible classes to choose from for your character, with Avadon 2 adding in a new class, the tinkermage who specialises in creating turrets and machines that can aid you in battle. The entire cast of characters comprises one of each class type so you will always have the potential strengths of each class at your disposal throughout the game. Avadon 2 features a standard grid based inventory management system, a junk bag for storing useless items so they can be sold en masse, several slots for character equipment, scarabs slots (magical items which confer statistical bonuses and abilities), quick use skills and items for each character. Overall inventory management is fairly painless however during extended periods of adventuring, managing the many scolls and potions you find can be a chore but compared to Spiderweb’s older titles it’s like a gift from the gods.

Avernum: Escape From the Pit

Avernum: Escape From the Pit

This game used to be a charming experience where magic, fighting bows and fantasy came together in a unique way. The game is far butchered now compared to it’s older version.

Before: Up to three levels of spells in both priest and mage classes so that you can indulge in a magic fantasy playing the game. With secrets at every turn for your wizard to decode and dangerous territory where they have to show their wit in using their magic to upgrade their arsenal and using it creatively to beat the lords of magic themselves, the slitheraki or however you spell that…

Addendum: As of Nov 2016, I nominated Avernum for the “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” Award.

Second remake of the classic Exile series' first part, Avernum: Escape From the Pit is classic roleplaying at its best! Basically, you play as a party of adventurers, who were exiled into a huge cavern, Avernum, far below the surface of the world. You have to find a new purpose here, which basically means doing all kinds of odd-jobs and quests for mayors, wizards and kings of the underworld and, while you’re at it, trying to escape your dark prison.
