Paradise Killer

Paradise Killer

An absolute MUST play for any fan of exploration, deduction, investigating and vaporwave games.

Paradise Island 24 is a joy to explore, especially when accompanied with the game’s amazing soundtrack.

Its characters are complex and straight out of a Metal Gear Solid meets SUDA51 marriage.

Finding the truth about what certain characters did/didn’t do made me feel bad, if I’m being honest.

Paradise Killer was such a refreshing experience amid bloated AAA grindathons and I think everyone should try it.

The basis of the game is a murder mystery and finding the culprits is what you will spend most of your time on Paradise Island 24 doing. I won’t talk too much about the background of the story or the world-building because finding these things for myself was very enjoyable, but I will say that the world you inhabit is wonderfully crafted and a joy to find out about.

Paradise Killer has an 80’s Vaporwave aesthetic, which some people may not like, however I believe that even if you don’t it will start growing on you after playing this game. The music is really good, and the way you enable new tracks in the game is great, finding them as you explore the world. Overall the audio design is good, but not brilliant. As I said the music is great, but some sounds quickly got annoying especially the player characters voice lines, as the doesn’t have many so they start to repeat quickly, but the frequency of voice lines can be changed in the settings if it annoys you as well.

The Good Life

The Good Life

Just to play through and do the main quest… eh it’s alright. Quirky but it’s fine, just play it then go do another game and forget it ever existed.

To get invested in and mess around? Hell no lol.

From release this was a janky mess of game-breakers and softlocks. The biggest of which was at least patched out (storage).

The content of the game is entirely just “go get this” with everything a convoluted web of ingredients upon ingredients of which everything is a rare drop except meat. Little to no emphasis nor encouragement when it comes being a photographer. Even with thousands of followers, keeping up with the trends on Flamingo barely gives you a few hundred a week so it’s not worth the effort when you could be running around hitting rocks or getting your daily time trial allowance.

Kickstarter backer here, so my review shows as a CD Key review, and will not count towards the overall review score.

That out of the way…

recommending with some serious caveats.

It’s a SWERY game, but not a ‘typical" SWERY game.

Weird, messy, a bit sloppy, a more Eastern POV and stereotype of life in the UK and the West.

Kb/m controls are quite clunky. Controller is better, if the game and Steam recognize your controller (PS4/PS5 recommended- the game seems to reuse towork properly with my XBox One controller).

Police Simulator: Patrol Officers

Police Simulator: Patrol Officers

It may be a bit buggy here and there, But it’s seriously impressive for a small studio in early access. It is also really fun to role play about. Here is a bit of unexpected fun from today … I delayed shooting a taser on a fleeing suspect only to have a random drunk driver swerve towards us and take him out causing a three car pileup that I had to investigate and clear up while being indirectly the cause of the crash. Do I take the suspect into custody or call him an ambulance? choices, am I right?

Pros

It’s a great Sim with great potential, I’m sure it’s going to be one of the best police sims on steam when leaves the early access, I have to say they have a great taste in designing the city, districts vary from each other and have different scenery. It reminds me of my favorite city Boston! Traffic missions are enjoyable and their variety keeps you busy and satisfied during your shift. The graphic is really great in this game, you going to take too many screenshots while playing. Parks are very green along with eye-catching sculptures and decorations throughout the city. Different Police stations that you could spawn from or finish your report when done. Nice Game setting and support of the controller and other languages. It has an Informative manual and tutorials to guide you. You could report the bugs and suggest your ideas there are warm and attentive developers valuing your time and request.

The Ghosts of Hackney Mills

The Ghosts of Hackney Mills

It’s a very short horror mystery game that seems to be the first part of a serie. There’s nothing dangerous or deadly happening to the player’s character (an electrician?) but the place is spooky. You need to explore a ghost town to find three generators and then a way out. During the exploration you can experience the recent past by finding various notes and letters left behind and by listening to conversations through crystals (turn off the BGM before activating a crystal so you can hear them and then turn it back on again to get the spooky vibes). Examining items like furnitures, doors and random objects (including holes in the road) gets you some comments from the character that adds to the story.

What should I start with? I am still grieving as the ending credits are rolling. The music accompanying it makes my grief even more punctuated. I’ve learned that the decisions we don’t care much about do affect the lives of other people.

Todd Collins is your character. You have to inspect the electrical power of an university you have checked in the past. The university is abandoned and, of course, you didn’t seem to care at first of its past secrets. Until one time when you think you see a deer and swerve your car in a tree. You’re fine, but the car isn’t. You call your boss on your radio and you both decide that you should inspect the transformer power-plants and meet with your boss in the northern part of the campus.

L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire

Great game with a unique premise. The facial animation is used to determine if a witness/suspect is telling the truth or lying. The voice acting is solid and the cases are based on real life cases of the era. The developers researched how police investigations were done in the 40s and it shows.

Sadly, I can’t recommend this game as you require a connection to RockStar’s Social Club. After 30+ hours of playing the game stops connecting to the SC. That means it wont’ launch. I’ve reinstalled the game but still I can’t connect to the SC. Such a shame too. It was good while it lasted. I’d avoid this entirely.

Buyer beware.

I have bought the Complete edition and it did indeed have all the content and DLC. However in 2019 I had to uninstall to make room for other games, and here I am in 2021 trying to reinstall it, only to find that it only gives me some of the content.

It only gives me a couple of the patrol cases and the DLC that didn’t come with the original game and I found none of the regular game levels are there at all, which is odd as I had done most of them before I had to uninstall and still have trophies for them.

The Painscreek Killings

The Painscreek Killings

Summary

Fantastic adventure game with only minor flaws. Play time for me was around 15 hours or so plus another couple of hours for finding the last few items that I had missed originally.

You are playing a journalist who investigates a series of murders that happened a few years back and were never solved. The majority of the game consists of searching through various locations for letters, notes and other clues that allow you to piece together the events that led to the murders and identify the killer. The game is fairly non-linear, most locations are available right from the start although there are quite a few rooms and a handful of areas that you first have to unlock (literally, i.e. you need to find a key/code).
