Bridge to Another World: Secrets of the Nutcracker Collector’s Edition

Bridge to Another World: Secrets of the Nutcracker Collector’s Edition

A good holiday season HOPA game. It’s not especially long, but had some advantages over other “Christmas” games I’ve played:

  • the story is well-imagined and draws from the original without repeating it

  • there is variety both in the puzzles and the HO scenes

  • the music is relaxing and classical (and changes as appropriate), but isn’t “Christmas music”

  • the secondary characters are relevant and well-designed, even if they don’t have a lot of depth

  • the voice acting is… well, it varies in quality, but generally works with the characters

This is an enjoyable HOG game, if you like those types of games. The minigames aren’t too terribly difficult (compared to others that I’ve seen in some games). I didn’t need any hints and didn’t use any skips. It just took some time to figure things out.

This game has a guide, including a section that shows where the collectibles are.

It has a map you can click on to travel and that shows where you’ve got activities you can do.

It has multiple difficulty settings

I also has 2 types of collectibles (Glass globes and morphing objects)

Didn’t take too long to beat this game (3.5 hours or so), but you might be able to stretch this out to 5 or 6 hours. Not a particularly long game either way.

Having come from Mystery Case Files (the earlier ones not the later ones), I was expecting a Hidden Object game, but while there is some hidden object gameplay here, it’s relatively sparse in comparison to MCF, and nothing too difficult. The puzzles are not particularly hard either. Otherwise, you’re mainly just running around trying to collect items and use them elsewhere in order to get more items.

Cybernetic Fault

Cybernetic Fault

From the very beginning I can say that the game surprised me a lot. I didn’t expect this from an indie game with a couple of reviews. The game has everything from puzzles to plot. The graphics are nice, the tasks themselves (quests, puzzles) are very high quality and interesting, it is a pleasure to pass them.

Summing up, I can say that the game is definitely worth its money and even more.

Cybernetic Fault surprised me a lot because I didn’t expect such a high-quality indie game.

The gameplay is based on the principle of seek and think, the necessary things are scattered throughout the level and only appear if there is a story advance. The controls are very simple, but it is strange that a person cannot overcome some obstacles by jumping or sitting down. The graphics are great, the optimization is also fine. As a result, it turned out to be a cool and very entertaining game.

BORIS THE ROCKET 🚀

BORIS THE ROCKET 🚀

A kinda hectic run-around-but-think game, nicely themed around quasi-Soviet missile intercept site. Be prepared to value every second of your time. Missions are around seven minutes each, so this is also a “just another bite” thing. I picture this in the evening, a mission or two every now and then. Then again, I love the setting too : )

This game is sort of Papers, Please.

During game you need to shoot down all incoming rockets. But task is not easy. You must properly configure every AA missile while trying to get enough resources to produce new missiles, or for upgrades. You alone in that base so must run on foot to every point of interest.

Actually I like games like Paper, please, so this game is my type of games, and I recommend it to buy. Its cheap enough.

Hardware for this review: Valve Index, RTX 3080, i9, 64 GB RAM

The developers had a long hard road to go here and that is why there are some really bad reviews here.

As the game was released it really had flaws like lacking of optimization, dropping frames and crashes. Yes, even I was unable to play the game, but I sticked to it and gave them the chance to do better as the devs were always honest about the progress and the state of the game.

That said I just can tell you about HINGE performing on my system.

CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Played on a 2019 gaming laptop with an i7-9750H processor, 16 GB of RAM and a nVidia GeForce RTX 2060 card. Windows 10. 38 hours of playtime. 3 full playthroughs.

The Good:

This is one of the few Lovecraftian VR games ever created, so, it definitely deserves a chance if you’re a Lovecraft and Cthulhu Mythos fan such as myself.

The game ran perfectly fine on my system. There were a few hiccups here and there when the game had to load a certain big area (Main Hall with Elevators) but it was probably due to my laptop not being a beast of a system. So, no complaints there whatsoever.
