Biocide: Karver Island

Biocide: Karver Island

Biocide takes place on Karver Island. You have been hired by a rival company of Celledyne a global leader in pharmaceutical and biogenetics. Your mission is to infiltrate the facility on Karver Island and recover data linked to experiments done by Celledyne. As well as locate a rogue scientist who has been selling research and secrets to the highest bidder.

Biocide plays much like the recent Resident Evil remakes with an inventory and combat system that mirrors it closely. The game is full of puzzles, tense moments, and lore inspired by some of my favorite classic horror games.

Simple but good trading game.

If you’re not looking for a ‘cozy’ trading game, though, definitively go with ‘Challenge’ mode. Being able to visit shops multiple times (in ‘normal’ mode) means you eventually end up able to sell basically any excess resources you’ve got, which kinda takes the ‘trading’ out of this game. Just becomes logistics. Don’t get me wrong, I still had fun, but I like ‘cozy’ games sometimes. Probably pretty easy with Challenge on too.

This game takes a bit to get into and requires some patience to continue. There’s a lot of repetitive actions but after about 30 minutes of playing you’ll notice the game advancing.

I’m sure this game is deeper than what I’ve initially seen so I will go back and continue to play.

The music is amazing, so peaceful and calm with an island flair. I can tell the dev worked really hard on this game.

I enjoyed this game, it’s fairly easy, relaxing and although it’s far from perfect I feel some of the reviews are a little harsh.

This game does look like Big Pharma but the game play is quite different. Besides, I’ve completed Big Pharma and absolutely loved it, would it be such a bad thing if more games were like it. In Big Pharma you raise and lower the concentration of ingredients which you then combine to make drugs while competing against the AI. In Factory Engineer you import raw materials to make intermediate products which are then used to make and sell finished goods. You start off with only a few simple products to manufacture but as you research more technologies many more products become available that are much more complicated and require many components to complete them.

This review is late. Very late. To preface; I bought the game a long time back, for some substantially low amount, during a sale. I hadn’t played much when I did get it, and now, as of writing this, I’ve “Finished it”. Though the game has no end, there no reason to keep playing. By “Finished it” I of course mean I’ve now gotten all the achievements. All 8 of them. A concerningly low amount for a game that is about solving complex puzzles. However, they’re not real puzzles. I call them that because having to figure out the most efficient way to make something is a challenge in and of itself in this game.

Game is very good, got given a copy to test on stream and enjoyed it alot, the game takes alot of the best mechanics from city builders and plays very well!

The game is not a very fun city builder and the slave management is not very fleshed out.

I have more details in my video review:

I love the game concept, but only thing that developer could add would be save feature so you dont lose progress after quitting.

Interesting concept, but not much to do.

The game presents you with “targets” for the next level, but once you get enough money, you can simply invest how much you want and you’ll only advance to the next level easily. The lack of achievements makes me not want to keep leveling up.

Also, the game doesn’t save between sessions.

I really want to give this a good review but I have only been playing for a bit (5h or so of play) and I think I am done? No progression, unlimited cash, most runs. If it goes no where then what is the point? I have done a few runs and it seems very limited in variety. ALso, fix the numbers, add notation or something to that at least we can see the big numbers. This game needs some work to be worth paying for.

Fun little game, needs lots more items and has some balancing issues and bugs

On my first game I have found Assembly Line + Stacking Use ‘em is very broken, add some above and below 10 free money and you can catapult into the stratosphere very quickly.

I ended up getting so much money I caused a buffer overflow plunging me into negative coin values XD

Would like to see more than 28 items, as you get to know all of them and which ones are useful and which are not very quickly.

Needs some more work to make the gameplay interesting for much longer than half an hour or so

The game is great, definitely worth the buy. I love the game-play, and the overall freedom that the game offers without overwhelming me. There is a lot of in-game content and new things I can explore with each time playing, so it seems like ill never get bored of it. I am super excited to see where the game goes as it continues development.

Great game that combines strategic gameplay similar to submarine simulations with tactical air battles between flying tanks.

You command a fleet with the aim of capturing the enemy capital city, while fighting off enemy fleets searching for you. Fleet movement is a game of cat and mouse using a very well realised radar system, aircraft carriers, cruise missiles, intercepting enemy radio signals and much more. When two fleets meet, the game switches to tactical battle in which you directly pilot a ship and fight against the enemy. You can design individual ships in your fleet from the groundup and then use them.

The all-time best ever flying submarines in the sky game ever made. Although I have spent most of my time obsessing over ship design, “submarine airship game” is the best description for this FTL-like rogue-like UNFORGIVINGLY Difficult game I can come up with; in campaign, you spend a lot of your time trying to manage 15 different simple things (signals analysis, threat tracking, resources and fleet management, navigation, combat, landing, and then the global story/factions/political overlay of story driven decisions). The ship editor will drive you on the express train to crazytown; every. single. decision. carries huge implications for your campaigns when you start running custom ships, and this gets into the infinitely complex fleet design (what roles do you want your ships to play is critical, and the game lets you figure out your own ways to fail). This is one of my favorite games of 2021.

The description of this game does not do it justice. Roguelike based on mathematical puzzles sounds like an arithmetic quiz program or someone packaging puzzles in a mediocre framework. One of the reviews even said it would be ok without the math. I envisioned puzzles where there was a correct solution every time.

This is first a roguelike (oldschool roguelike), and the ‘puzzles’ are, like a game play in awell designed roguelike, emergent - naturally arising from the procedurally generated world. There are often many good solutions to the puzzles, and the game play revolves around finding good enough solutions, and using your resources wisely.

Very cool, but very specific game. If you are a mathematician, programmer, roguelike fan or just a nerd, most likely, this game is for you. Otherwise… Anyway, if you’re not outright scared with the concept of killing ancient beasts with the power of math, you should give it a try.

You can start with the free version . Keep in mind, though, that free version lacks some recent and/or steam-specific features.
