Capital Island

Capital Island

Simple but good trading game.

If you’re not looking for a ‘cozy’ trading game, though, definitively go with ‘Challenge’ mode. Being able to visit shops multiple times (in ‘normal’ mode) means you eventually end up able to sell basically any excess resources you’ve got, which kinda takes the ‘trading’ out of this game. Just becomes logistics. Don’t get me wrong, I still had fun, but I like ‘cozy’ games sometimes. Probably pretty easy with Challenge on too.

This game takes a bit to get into and requires some patience to continue. There’s a lot of repetitive actions but after about 30 minutes of playing you’ll notice the game advancing.

I’m sure this game is deeper than what I’ve initially seen so I will go back and continue to play.

The music is amazing, so peaceful and calm with an island flair. I can tell the dev worked really hard on this game.

Summary

This is a magic flavored action game where you fight enemies by shooting magics and summoning minions. The emphasis of its progression system is on levels and gears; there is not much you can do action-wise except for kiting. The gears are collected as drops with at most 4 random attributes, where the attributes may be transferred to other items to create your desired set. Later in the game, most of the fun will be around gathering drops and combining them to make your character more powerful, and doing time attack runs.

Alice Trapped Beyond Wonderland

Alice Trapped Beyond Wonderland

A very interesting game, the puzzles are good, some of them are more abstract but usually you can figure it out if you take 1 thing at a time. I played the entire game in one video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tq7XLmEFow

It’s a magical world filled with beautiful castles and images, sometimes you see more “mature” things like a prison cell or an abandoned train but it’s great for kids and adults. The whole game is about 1 hour long, it will take most people 4 hours to beat. It’s great for this price

if something looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s most likely a duck. and while alice trapped beyond wonderland looks like a hidden object game, it doesn’t have any quacking hidden object scenes, so I gladly took a gander.

Iselin Saga

Iselin Saga

I enjoyed this game for story, artwork and puzzles - a good variety but nothing over complicated.

Very amateurish game. It feels more like is made by a single guy than by a team. Stripped of almost all “game” aspects but the uninteresting HOS and ok puzzles.

Dated and uninspired graphics. Confused and not interesting story.

Not worth the money.

Alien Shooter 2 - The Legend

Alien Shooter 2 - The Legend

I’ve been playing Sigma Team’s games for years, and I really like Alien Shooter 2 - The Legend. As someone who has played through AS2 - Reloaded and ZS2 a bunch of times, there is a LOT that I like in this game that expands on the previous titles in interesting but not too overly complicated ways. But there ARE issues with this game that will hopefully be patched in future updates.

I may make a longer post about pros and cons somewhere in the discussions. But for now, I’m going to share only the most enjoyable pros and annoying cons I’ve experienced in my current play through (not as much of a review for new players as more of a feedback report for the developers and any other players familiar with their games).

Real player with 362.1 hrs in game

With update 1.3 the developers finally addressed a major point of criticism: They made the repetitive filler missions optional (destroy X teleporters, kill X aliens, hold position for X minutes, collect X ammo, food, metal, bones, artifacts). Now you can skip them and only do the real campaign missions. This has reduced the amount of mandatory missions to about 70 from a 150 total. This change was very welcome.

At this point I considered a thumbs up, but there’s one thing holding me back: they added an artificial weapon recoil, which makes your crosshair move upwards every single shot. And it only moves up, up, up, and never back. This constantly forces you to reposition your mouse, even when targeting static spots, makes you miss monsters, and shoot walls instead of the actual target. It’s absolutely annoying. This feature has to be removed.

Arid

Arid

Arid is a completely free student project created by potential graduates of the Breda University of Applied Sciences located in the Netherlands. There they cater to international students offering both bachelor and masters degrees in both media and game technology. Priding their expertise in the Houdini Engine for Unity among other things. Their focus is on creating AAA games and some students manage to progress even further eventually working for companies such as Ubisoft and Guerrilla.

Arid is a ‘unrealistic’ desert survival game. I say unrealistic because you literally starve, drink and need shut eye constantly even on the easiest of settings. The survival reminders are relentless and before long you’ll be praying that the game give you at least a moment’s rest so that you can gather yourself.

Real player with 32.2 hrs in game

For a free game, Arid is really good, in my opinion. It has some bugs here and there and could use some polish in some areas, but so do lots of games. I had it crash a couple of times, both times connected to saving, but it turned out the save had worked anyway so it was alright.

Overall, without having ever been to the Atacama (and bearing in mind it’s been enhanced for video game purposes), it felt properly punishing. I’ve wished other games that featured large desert areas had something like the sun exposure mechanic; on the hardest difficulty in this, when there’s no UI element to tell you what your exposure is, the sun is very scary. You end up reapplying clay obsessively, and scuttling from one shaded area to another, and doing a lot of your work at night. I also enjoyed the mechanic of finding dirty water and having to filter it. Other games have similar things, but this felt very natural, part of the daily tasks.

Ghostist

Ghostist

I think I’ve racked up enough hours to give this a real review now.

Ghostist; is a pretty casual, but definitely charming; 2d ghost hunting game.

You play alone as you work to identify ghosts across different job sites.

And, as you complete jobs & earn money; you can buy extra items to assist in your investigations.

There’s a good variety in ghosts, & jobsites. And, investigations usually don’t take too long to complete.

So, it’s definitely a game I like to jump into for some quick, play sessions.

Thanks for so many hours between guessing and goosebumps.

A game for in between, but unfortunately the in between often gets longer than expected… :-D

It is nice to experience how the game and it’s content are growing! Maybe there will be a mobile version for more “in between” on the road?
