The Amazing American Circus

The Amazing American Circus

Target Audience: Those Willing to Take the Lows With The Highs in Card RPGs

Summary:

This is a recommendation in essence, but for a specific subset of people.

I’m going to be straight up from the get go here: The Amazing American Circus is one of those games that I want to love up and down, but ended up being the biggest thorn in my side due to what happened during the review period. To say that I faced some of the worst bugs: specifically saved game bugs, in my review career would have been an understatement: I had 8 separate runs break wildly in that period where I could not continue to make progress. While those bugs seem to be fixed now, I have a form of PTSD at this point. Every time I play, I’m waiting for the game to break again. Hell, even the video I made had a major bug in it. There’s a reason I have around 40+ hours of gameplay without actually beating the game, and to say it hung over the experience would be an understatement to say the least.

This is not a Slay to Spire, this is not a Monster Train. The Amazing American Circus is not a roguelike-roguelite card game, it is more like a card game built around a campaign, with some management sim built around it, in which you need to cover the costs, upgrades etc from the incomes you get during the shows.

If you more curious about the game, and want to check a short, ~20mins long video in which I showing what content you could expect from the game with one circus show (card battle) included, then here is mine:

Summoner’s Mess

Worth every cent (and much more) of its price, it’s very entertaining to discover the map and each unsuccessful run makes you go for another one to see how far can you go this time.

It has a really nice art direction, and the sound ambiance goes perfectly with the game. Just buy it, with that price it’s like a gift.

This is a very nice and interesting game, the graphics, the music, the mood… everything fits perfectly.

I really enjoyed playing it and doing all the possible endings. It is cool to be able to easily remember the rooms and little by little knowing all the place like it was my own house.

If you enjoy games where the progression is based on your own knowledge instead of unlockable skills, then give it a try!

The game gives you a proper amount of hours of game time given the fact that is super cheap!

Alice Trapped Beyond Wonderland

Alice Trapped Beyond Wonderland

A very interesting game, the puzzles are good, some of them are more abstract but usually you can figure it out if you take 1 thing at a time. I played the entire game in one video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tq7XLmEFow

It’s a magical world filled with beautiful castles and images, sometimes you see more “mature” things like a prison cell or an abandoned train but it’s great for kids and adults. The whole game is about 1 hour long, it will take most people 4 hours to beat. It’s great for this price

if something looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s most likely a duck. and while alice trapped beyond wonderland looks like a hidden object game, it doesn’t have any quacking hidden object scenes, so I gladly took a gander.

Ironseed 25th Anniversary Edition

Ironseed 25th Anniversary Edition

Ah Ironseed. A hidden gem of the 90’s. I played this one 25 years ago. A 1MB file hidden among 600 others on a CD. This remake is quite faithful the the original, though the difficulty has now been notably reduced. I haven’t played enough to know if all of the old systems are here, but what I see so far has been quite impressive.

If you are tired of all the “newer” games that put graphics over gameplay, give this one a go.

Of Blades & Tails

Of Blades & Tails

A turn-based RPG that is action-oriented but rewards a thoughtful approach. Discover a fantastic land populated by different animal tribes.

You play Riff, a clever member of the tribe of foxes. A chain of unfortunate events involves you in a quest of vital importance to all the peace-loving creatures of the realm. You will have to leave your home village and explore the world to become strong enough to stand up to evil. (In other words: There will be a storyline but it’s still in the making!)

The game is inspired by classic Hack & Slays like Diablo and turn-based RPGs like Rogue’s Tale or Stoneshard. However there is no permadeath in this game. Your progress is always saved once you enter a new area.

As you explore the land, you’ll gain experience and unlock new abilities. Not all inhabitants will be friendly to you. Some will help you with information, others are only interested in trading, and still others will get in your way.

Improve your equipment and collect useful resources in the environment to have a decisive advantage in battle.

  • Turn-based Combat that allows for quick action or strategic planning

  • An Open World with lots of places to discover

  • A fresh, animalistic setting in a vibrant pixel art look

  • Procedural generated dungeons and caves

  • A Main Storyline and various side quests

  • Classless Character Development with many abilities to unlock

  • Equipment of different qualities and Unique Items with special powers

  • Hunt giant bugs or gather herbs and other useful resources

  • Many Enemy Types with different skills that may require tactical decisions

  • Trade with rats and other profit-seeking animals

  • … and more to come!

The game is still in early development and more details will follow!

Ship Graveyard Simulator

Ship Graveyard Simulator

24 hours played now and about to commence work my second large ship. Really enjoying the game. I’ve “completed” most of it, but Starting to go through different ships and will also try the new update.

Note: The recent patch has addressed some of the things I’ll talk about. i’m going to talk about what I like and don’t like from my experience with the game and discuss suggestions each time.

Starting with nothing is great. But you don’t spend a lot of time on the beach before ordering your first ship. The game itself is relatively short, the new changes set to address this by adjusting money and XP from completing work orders. Workorders is an insanely quick way to gain levels. I hope the update switches the balance to gain XP more from dismantling ships.

Real player with 54.2 hrs in game

Game had wasted potential a lot

if you expect to dismantle ships, go play something else, maybe hardspace shipbreaker.

There ae lot features or even fundamentals that does not make any sense, in all fairness there is less that makes sense than things that are nonsense

1. you “rent” ship to dismantle, when logicaly you should bid (buy) ship at fixed price and whatever you sell goes to your profit.

2. hammer … most of thing you hammer, you would cut away

3. arc/plasma cutter … most of thing game expects you to cut with these you would with angle grinder/ripsaw and vice versa
