Jason Shiga’s amazing comic in digital form. While the book is still my preferred method of navigating, I’m really glad that more people are able to experience this for the first time. If you liked this, be sure to check out his other work that’s available online for free, the math mystery thriller Fleep and his sprawling epic Demon, they’re both worth your time.

Guardians of Infinity: To Save Kennedy

Guardians of Infinity: To Save Kennedy

January 2087. Mankind has no time to lose. The time continuum is inexplicably unravelling by the hour, threatening to destroy the planet Earth.

Only one man can save time: temporal physicist Adam Cooper, inventor of a miraculous time travel machine - the Time Sphere. Cooper traces the cause of the time crisis to the events of November 22, 1963 and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, a tragedy that should not have occurred in the normal course of history.

Determined to prevent President Kennedy’s death, Cooper assembles the Guardians of Infinity, a unique and diverse group of five individual agents who will journey back in time to November 15, 1963. You assume the identity of Adam Cooper. Your mission: to thwart the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and successfully return to the future with all of your agents.

You guide your agents and send them to critical cities such as Washington, D.C., Hyannis Port and Dallas where they must convince the President’s family, friends, and associates that his life is in jeopardy. Send your agents to see Attorney General Robert Kennedy, Vice President Lyndon Johnson, or confront assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. This sets the stage for your climactic face-to-face meeting with President Kennedy where you must convince him of the impending danger awaiting him.

Can you save President Kennedy? Can you successfully return to the future? Can you discover the identity of the evil mastermind behind the assassination and the plot to destroy time?

Grail to the Thief

Grail to the Thief

This is an accessibility/disability friendly interactive text adventure where you make simple choices to progress through a time travel mystery. The voice acting in the game is quite good. The game also provides audible accessibility prompts to tell you which keys map to which responses.

The quality of this game may not be particularly great, but it must be taken into account that the game is free, and designed specifically to be accessible to the vision impaired. While I generally would give any other game with the same level of quality a thumbs down, For All To Play have done a service to differently abled gamers and this is entirely commendable. I recommend this game for any gamer seeking accessible gaming options.

Grail to the Thief is a text (and audio)-based game in which you make decisions to progress through the story. Kinda like the old Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books of the nineties.

These types of games always intrigue me as I like being able to choose the plot of my own story. While I love that part of it, in addition to the humor this game brings, I’m not necessarily a fan of the fact that there’s one ending, no mater what you choose, really (if I’m wrong, let me know, but that’s the way it seemed to be). In addition, while the voices for the characters are great, the narrator’s voice was very annoying at times. Also, the game is extremely short (30 to 45 minutes at the most).

Between Time: Escape Room

Between Time: Escape Room

Between Time is third game from mc2games and, in my opinion, it is their best release to date. I enjoyed both previous titles (Palindrome Syndrome and Tested On Humans) which had well thought out puzzles but could be a bit confusing at times.

In Between Time, the interface has been slightly tweaked and seemed more intuitive. The development team has done a great job providing visual clues on related puzzles and there is a gentle hint system if you are stuck. They also posted a full solution guide which I only referred to once. This game has a time travel theme so it is played in five distinct environments, each with a new set of diverse puzzles. Most are easily solved if you are paying attention, as clues tend to be in plain sight.

really love the fun and challenging puzzles. not TOO frustrating.

I find the clues are really well done. Some other puzzle games might just not tell you anything at all to make it “challenging”. Really that’s poor design and frustrating to the player.

This game however is really fun with interesting locales.

The Epsilon Outcome

The Epsilon Outcome

The Epsilon Outcome is a wonderful and clever point & click adventure game. Kenneth A. Perrine clearly loves and understands the genre - if you have a similar feeling for these types of games, do not miss out on this thouroughly enjoyable five or six hour experience.

The game has a nice sci-fi foundation, but it knows how to have fun with it. There are the hilariously far-fetched solutions to puzzles and ways to overcome obstacles any aficionado of classic P&C adventure games knows and loves, but the game is never too vague about it. The challenges will make you think and the characters will make you smile.

What a delightful game! It’s a love letter to the point-and-click, Sierra-Online-style adventure games I played as a kid. The hand drawn graphics and dry humor make this feel like a very personal, interactive art project as much as it is a game. I enjoyed solving the puzzles—always felt taken care of by the designer, in that things were hard enough to be interesting but not so hard as to be frustrating. Even the manual is fun!

Eternia: Pet Whisperer

Eternia: Pet Whisperer

I’m not a particularly big fan of visual novels but the premise of this game most definitely is my thing.

! You get to rescue talking, time-travelling animals that live forever. What’s not to love? Who wouldn’t want to take them all home?

The game is charming and sweet, utterly bonkers and very funny - there’s been so many laugh out loud moments for me throughout the game (especially the reference to the size of ratty nads!).

The artwork is just lovely. A gorgeous watercolour, painterly style. Perfect for the tone of the game. The UI is simple and intuitive. The music is adorable and suits the game so well.

This is a fun, light visual novel about bonding with talking pets, with a small amount of framing narrative and hints about the world in which it’s set (which did subvert my expectations). Each of the pets has a distinct and different (and often quirky) personality, and most of the game is learning about them by spending time with them and thereby earning their trust.

The artwork and music are upbeat and bright, fitting the general tone, and each of the plotlines moves along quickly. It’s very much a visual novel rather than a puzzle game, with your choices mostly being which pet’s storyline to follow each day, but with its brisk play time of 1-2 hours this works fine.
