Love Mystery Club

Love Mystery Club

Intro

Does it have Love? Yes. Does it have elements of mystery? very loosely yes. Is it a club? No, but one of the girl is in a club room, so i guess the name suit the game then.

Pros

  • Cheap

  • Easy to paly

  • Very easy to solve

  • Easy achievements

  • Multiple languages (English translation is fine, I’ve seen worst)

Cons

  • Don’t really like how they downplay the Umineko thingy

  • Knowing chinese and good with tones, the girls' voice when they are angry are too mild

Despite its low price point Love Mystery Club doesn’t have enough content to be worth even that. Two very short stories with average writing quality and terrible English translation is all you get out of this. If you have a buck or two and really want another visual novel to fill out your Steam library (which may or may not be why I bought it) then go ahead, but I can’t promise you won’t regret the purchase.

Unusual game - reminiscent of the old text-based games we used to play. A little frustrating at times, trying to work out how to move forward. Worthwhile if you like adventure games and fancy something with a different interface.

Fun puzzle game with a nice multisensory story telling emphasis. I have to say though that the process of garnering the “materials” for the puzzle can be somewhat frustrating; for example the KLF puzzle requires something that is fairly obscure to find just to get started. The puzzles themselves, once you have all the materials needed, are alright at straightforward difficulty (hints are really optional), although I am particularly impressed by the last puzzle, the Dancers Numbers, the solution of which (the only I looked up online) really blew my mind for the cleverness. (as aside, I was too taken up with the thought that the dancers might be instructing a sequence about how the button ought to be pressed; which is quite tempting, but this is not nearly as clever as the official solution). Overall it is a great game

Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble!™

Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble!™

Rarely have I felt as compelled to write a review for a game as I have for this one. Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble (DHSGiT) offers a peculiar type of challenge. It’s a game of highs and lows. Whether or not you’ll find it fullfilling seems deeply personal in a way I’ve rarely encountered.

At first glance, DHSGiT appears quirky and charming - undeniably unique. A quick look at promotional material suggests 1920’s teenage rebels taking on their school and town with wit and verve. I was excited to install the game. Who wouldn’t love mouthing off to authority figures and getting into all kinds of period-appropriate debacles?

Can’t even remember why I have this game. Probably from one of those bundles with tons of indie games in them. Obviously, I didn’t expect much here (usually, those cheap indie games turn out to be a complete garbage) and launched the game just to see what did I paid for. But guess what? I’ve got hooked and was unable to stop playing until the very end. I’ve literally stopped playing bigger games and just sat there, playing this. Totally didn’t expect that.

So, what is this game? Well, that’s the funniest part. The thing is… it’s hard to tell. Just because it’s pretty much a unique experience. Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble! is designed after a board game, but it’s way more than that. It has a plot that involves the investigations and multiple endings, it has RPG elements (you can manage your “party” and level up your characters), it has mini-games and even some visual novel parts.

Murder by Numbers

Murder by Numbers

As soon as I started playing this game, I was incredibly hooked on the detective puzzle format. It was a lot of fun and very relaxing to not have to worry about getting choices wrong and just take my own pace at solving the puzzles. I do have quite a few nitpicks and grievances but this game is well worth the price if you love picross and cute stories.

Story

Overall, it’s a super cute story and I love S.C.O.U.T., Honor, Jena, and Cross, as well as everyone else. The supporting cast were fun to see, but I wish I had gotten more details about them. If you like complete realism in your stories, though, be warned that there’s a lot of points that just don’t make sense. For example, a civilian getting involved with a murder investigation and not being arrested for interfering with evidence, hacking police files, etc.

I’m at the start of chapter 4 of this game, but want to review it at this point.

Overall, I give this game a thumbs up. But it is a game that I like and enjoy very much, but I also want to say that I found its implementation deeply annoying.

I love picross, and as a collection of picross puzzles, it’s a good game. The completed puzzles don’t try to “look like things” in the way most picross games do - they look like fragments of things. And that’s fine. It gives them freedom to create some really interesting puzzles and you aren’t really tempted to ignore logic and just guess what looks like it fits. The puzzles are challenging and satisfying. I really like that part of the game. I also like that there are a good selection of bonus puzzles. I played all the puzzles (up to chapter 4, including bonus puzzles) on hard mode and can confirm they can be solved with pure logic, which I really appreciate.

VideoHole: Episode I

It’s a fun lil romp with cute characters to talk to, although it’s kinda buggy at the end of the game (Just talk to the ‘Constable’ and book it where you need to go… trust me on this, you don’t want to be frozen). The story was so interesting, I was determined to see the ending, so going through all the bugs end-game was so worth it; unless they weren’t bugs… and actually…–nevermind, spoilerz!~ Also, a strange thing to note, but it recognizes the gamepad for most of the game, ‘cept the ..last telephone that require you hitting the ‘E’ key, though it’s only a minor thing.

great stuff, deep stuff, beautiful stuff.

Aesthetics, transitions and presentation are on-point, with a fantastic script as well.

Video hole starts off very quirky and light-weight, before sneakily turning into a poignant, melancholic piece of art (as all great art does). The ending is a punch in the gut, the characters remind me of my own friends (if they didn’t all end up crazy :P ), and you can see the developer baring their soul through this.

I was very moved, without really expecting it.

Strongly recommended.

A short but exceedingly sweet little game of deduction in the style of The Return of the Obra Dinn. The musical finale is the cherry on the cake of a well written and well voice acted gem.

A bit like a light weight ‘Return of the Obra Din’ - read the conspiracy posts, listen to the podcasts and the google stuff to pinpoint dates. When did Bryan Adams play a certain venue, what is Taylor Swifts birthday, what year did 21 May fall on a … Good fun for a couple of hours.

Excellent game with such a great style… been waiting for a game that plays as legit as this one! Everything in it is full of realism.

Really interesting concept and very well executed. PCI casts you as an armchair detective. The French police are asking for assistance with some of their cases. You must create an actual account in order to play online as a team or by yourself and accrue points after finishing up cases. There are 6 cases total ranging from around 30 minutes to 4 hours. The content is VERY dark in some cases and deals with some heavy realistic topics (I’ll list some TW’s at the end of this). While I felt uncomfortable during playing I was so hooked. The cases are riveting and the quizzes at the end really engage you actively with the material. The actors/actresses do a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life (even the worst ones) and not even making you realize they’re acting.

Stranded 2

Stranded 2

The absolute worst game I have ever played. Complete horse sh*t.

I grew up on text based games so real excited about this but wouldn’t recommend to my enemies.

For $3 I’ll keep just in case it is ever actually playable.

Not just a text adventure. There’s art, sound and also has an advanced parser as you can see from the trailer. The puzzles are fun and challenging. Plus, as a bonus, you also get Zenobi Software’s Stranded 1 along with it (playable in the accompanied Spectrum emulator).

I do recommend reading the manual, even if you have played many text adventures before this one. It has tips and new features which you really don’t want to miss out on.
