****************** IMPORTANT NOTE: ******************

Don’t be fooled by the 90% off sales people. This developer is purposely pricing his asset flips at $18.99 so he can mark them at 90% off every time they go on sale. his games are zero-effort asset flips not even worth a nickel. Even at “90% off”, his asset flip trash games are still a massive rip-off.

A lazy, minimal effort (less than an hour of work for sure by this dev) and a ridiculous and absurd $19 USD asking price here at launch.

ZIQ

ZIQ

ZIQ is a very challenging runner that will keep you coming back to beat your score. The electronic music is great and will draw you in as the Tron like art pulses to the beat. I think it plays a lot better with a controller than keyboard and mouse, so I’d recommend using one if possible. I tried to rebind my triggers but it didn’t seem to work like the other buttons did, later I noticed they already work for switching color and pulling orbs but you won’t know that from the keybinds menu. The games scoring is based around pulling orbs while matching your color to a sequence at the top of the screen, you get more points the closer you are to the orb when you grab it. This sounds easy but it’s harder than you’d think because you also have to switch your color to avoid traps. If you can finish multiple sequences in a row you’ll end up triggering a mario star like deal where you’re invincible to traps and can get extra points for blowing them up! The game also has a narrator that talks shit when you die, which is pretty funny. Once in a while he’ll talk about some backstory, but it’s mostly just making fun of your deaths. If you like arcade games you should check it out.

3D Realms are probably best known for their action titles. With games such as the Duke Nukem series, Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, Max Payne and the recent FPS Ion Maiden in their catalogue, it’s kind of easy to miss that some of the early 3D Realms/Apogee games often explored other genres as well. And with the recent releases of Graveball and this game, it seems that 3D Realms are doing just what they did in the past. Picking up talented developers making fun games in all genres, and giving them some attention. ZIQ is by no means an action shooter like a lot of 3DR’s library, but it does still fit in, in its own quirky way. Let’s find out exactly how ZIQ can be called a 3D Realms title.

Alpacapaca Dash

Alpacapaca Dash

Alpacapaca Dash is an endless runner with shooting elements.

The levels are randomly generated, so you will most likely never face the same level combination twice. With the coins you can collect in the Levels, you’re able to unlock a variety of different outfits for your Alpaca. One of my personal favorites is the “Sailermoon-Alpaca”

What I really like about the art style of the game is that the world is all black and white, and you bring it to life with your Alpaca while running. Has a really nice feeling to it, to see the world change colors while playing.

I liked 👍 and Disliked 👎 :

  • (+) The Alpacas drawing. All of them are nice. 👍

  • (+) The pieces of music. All match to the retro atmosphere as well as the game atmosphere. 👍

  • (+) Simple game mechanism, not easily boring nor too annoying hard. 👍

  • (+) The changing background. 👍

  • (-) I think the jump button rarely does not work properly. 👎

🐛 Crashes / Bugs / Glitches: 🐛

At me, the game rarely launched bad, it means the game lagged, but a restart always solved it. ✓

Canabalt

Canabalt

I know Canabalt was instrumental in kickstarting the infinite runner genre, and I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but I honestly can’t recommend this PC port. It’s not about the gameplay; the gameplay is fine, and always has been. But I found this port to be rife with technical issues.

This game is buggy. My god, this game is buggy.

You probably already know what Canabalt is, but if not, it’s a very simplistic game where you play as a man running and jumping across rooftops, and the goal is to earn a high score by running as far as possible before inevitably making a mistake and dying. There’s only one button used to jump, but you’ll have to learn to aim and adjust that jump to hairpin perfection if you want to survive for long. You speed up the longer you run, and you can trip over boxes to slow down. Problem is, if you are running too slow, you won’t be able to jump on rising I-beams in time or run across falling buildings, but if you’re running too fast, you won’t have time to adjust your jump to land on tiny platforms. So it’s all about running into boxes when you need to, and maintaining a perfect pace, hoping the game doesn’t throw anything too tricky at you. It’s a good balance between skill and luck. Otherwise, that’s pretty much it; if you’re expecting a game with tons of content, this isn’t it. But as far as low-investment casual games go, Canabalt is one of the most tried and true.

Canabalt is a silent and modest game jam giant that was in the first wave of titles which drew attention to the emerging indie scene at the time. It was a groundbreaking game that popularized a subgenre of endless runner games, such as Race the Sun and BIT.TRIP Runner series in certain aspects. But does it still stand the test of time as a true classic?

Story wise, you are the Runner, an athlete who is running over the rooftops and is trying to avoid hitting any obstacle while there is an enigmatic, ongoing invasion happening. The story is minimal and its kept in the background, while the gameplay takes priority. Speaking of the gameplay, Canabalt shines in evoking rush of exhilaration through simple and tight controls: you only use one button in the game to jump. You can make light or high jumps depending on the force with which you push the button. There are various obstacles on tracks that are procedurally generated, which will cause the player more or less trouble, and sometimes will even help depending on the height of the jump and speed the player is running. Canabalt is a very fast game, where the speed of the protagonists progressively accelerates to ludicrous levels. Besides the endless main track, there are several modes of plays, each one focusing on one style of play and obstacle.

Captain The Runner

Captain The Runner

“Captain The Runner is an endless runner game based on retro graphics, where the player must avoid colliding with the cars, buses, spaceships, water bodies and much more”.

It is not.

A pure shovelware, this game basically offer to the player a playtime that amounts roughly at 5 to 10 seconds per map.

Ok, I have to admit that there are only four maps and some of them are easier, but you got the idea.

You’ll only be able to see the pre-fixed controls on the main menu: jump with the directional keys, left and right to move.

Magma Tsunami

Magma Tsunami

A Running Platformer

https://youtu.be/9fUwR3VIOSw

  • Visually the game looks great, very bright and colorful

  • Procedural or Changing Levels, seems like everytime you play certain parts of the stage change. This is great because you won’t be able to memorize the level to quickly rush through it.

  • Very challenging - I only recommend this to fans of the genre as to some this may feel overly difficult, but it’s all about testing to see how far you can go without dying.

  • Co-Op

  • Repetitive and short lived. Considering most people won’t last longer than a minute, you are basically replaying the same similar level over and over again. Although this also makes it a bit addicting (like Flappy Bird)

Magma Tsunami is a 2-D platformer game about an egg with legs who must run away from a giant wave of lava and avoid various obstacles, such as birds, lava pits, and falling UFOs.

Pros

+Dirt cheap

+Trading cards

+Good for wasting short amounts of time

+Runs smoothly on any computer

Cons

-Mediocre visuals

-Loud, obnoxious music

-Nothing really sets it apart from other games in the genre

-Repetitive

-Only around 10 minutes worth of content

Sure it’s cheap, but there are better uses of $1. It’s not horrible, but don’t expect to enjoy this game for long.

Mistrun

Mistrun

Lucky me has the dubious honour of writing the first review for another template flip cash grab from HotFoodGames.

Mistrun is another GameMaker Studio asset flip from serial copy+paste infringers, HotFoodGames. All these guys do is rip off game templates and projects from the Yoyogames/GameMaker Studio marketplace, change the name and a few cosmetic details, and try to scam people into paying for someone else’s work on Steam. They have run asset flip scams dozens of times, and this is no exception (just look at their other games on Steam). It’s nothing but a cash grab.
