Defective Holiday

Big fan of Kim Laughton’s stuff and Mechatok, I can not stop thinking about this world. Its nice to walk inside Kim’s work and experience the details and style up close. You’ll quickly fall in love with Mechatok’s music as it connects you to this world. Look forward to more from all involved.

Maze Burrow

Maze Burrow

A good, retro-style puzzle game with some nice twists on the formula to make it worth playing. Block puzzles have been done before, but Maze Burrow has a nice selection of gimmicks and additions to make them feel new. Although the difficulty level is quite high later on, I rarely felt frustrated or incapable of solving the puzzle before me; the difficulty is mostly in figuring out a strategy for each level, and the addition of an undo button makes it far less tedious to get back to where you were. The soundtrack helps as well; it’s very upbeat and never feels repetitive, but it’s also background-y enough to let you focus on the puzzles. Unfortunately, the game is quite short; I took only about 6 hours to clear the campaign, though there are a few brutal bonus levels that open up once you defeat the final boss. Still, it’s definitely worth a play if you’re into puzzle games.

First off I am very happy to see this game come out. Sliding block puzzle games aren’t anything new but I feel this game adds enough to make it unique and worth the time to play it. When something like paired blocks or teleporters are introduced it’s clear there’s a lot of potential for difficult puzzles. This game takes advantage of it’s own gimmicks well, it doesn’t feel like any of them overstayed it’s welcome or wasn’t used enough. I didn’t know what to expect with any level really.

Around world 3 is where the puzzles started to get decently tough in my opinion. Most of the time my experience was just sitting back and thinking about exactly what problem I had to get past. And during those moments I found the game to be most enjoyable, especially when I ran into another problem with a creative solution right after. Then there’s a few levels where there’s so much going on you can’t really think about it, rather you just have to play around until you get somewhere. Those levels aren’t the best, they show up every now and then. But the majority of levels are the clever type, the level design is really great and the strong point of the game.

This one got lost somewhere along the way

Passenger seat tries to do too many things at the same time. The luck-based process of tracking down map pieces degrades the experience of people who like difficult puzzles like this one. The repeated attempts to emphasize the spooky graveyards degrades the intended relaxing tone of the game.

There are two games here: A basically non-interactive relaxing mood piece about chilling in the passenger seat, and a significantly difficult map-based puzzle where you’re having to switch between looking at the map and tracking landmarks and turns. These two games clash with each other, and by the time I beat the game, I wasn’t fond of either of them.

A gorgeous little collection of 3 games, well worth the price. :)

Micro-Games

Post Cards has three parts that can each be beaten in about two minutes. I would hesitate to even call these “mini-games” because that would imply a higher replayability factor than they have. These “micro-games” aren’t bad, but they are extremely short.

Recommended at whatever price you think is worth six minutes of play.

Stones of Solace

Stones of Solace

I’ve noticed a number of negative reviews from people unfamiliar with the concept of meditation or ASMR. This isn’t a game you are supposed to play for hours at a time, there is no princess to save, no dragon to slay, no leaderboards to brag about. This is a relaxation tool designed to help you unwind after a stressful day.

Every day the game spawns a random new idol and you can spend as much or as little time admiring it, praying to it, or studying with it in the background. Then once you’re done you can leave an artful offering of leaves and twigs as gratitude.

Stones of Solace is a nice little game to get away from stress for a few moments, given that you posses the ability to engage / get involved (not sure about the English term) with it, focus your concentration on it and give it a chance.

If you can’t do that and you “don’t understand” the point, this probably is not a game for you.

There’s nothing to understand, no complex mechanics to figure out, or such.

This is about feeling and creativity.

The game isn’t designed as something you spend several hours at a time on, but just a couple minutes. It’s a small ritual you do for yourself every day (or whatever regularity you prefer).

Love the game mechanics, more levels (currently 80) would be great. Although for 0,39€, it provides many many hours of gameplay due to its addictive mechanics. After playing any level at least once, you can select a level to play. Small changes can yield to big differences. Soundtrack is calm but great.

Game is under one dollar normally and .49 cents on sale. The game has achievements as well as controller support but the best part about the game besides the tight controls and addicting gameplay is that each of the 80 levels have leaderboards and rankings so you can see how well you stack up against the best in the world that have played the game. At the current price the game is a steal and i would highly recommend it to any serious or casual gamer whether you have a few minutes of time to spend or hours this game is very entertaining and has high replayability.

Honestly this only can act as +1 to game library, I dun think it worth for the money, quite boring, it also have a lot of similar game under same series.

It’s just another aMaze game, this time it’s St. Patrick themed. Once you’ve played one, you’ve played all of them.

There’s not much challenge. Just collect some pieces and get to the goal. No obstacles, just lots of dead-ends.

If you like these games, it may be something for you. But for me, it feels very copy-pasted. It’s the same game with different mazes.

General:

  • 50 levels, each yielding 2 achis, so 100 achis in total (one half can be considered as spam).

  • About 1.2 hr of gameplay

Pros:

  • The puzzles are overall not bad (training your logical thinking), not too hard

Cons:

  • there are repetitions among Choco Pixel Series.

  • some levels are symmetric, so you need to solve the same puzzle twice.
