Clones

Clones

Easily the best game i’ve ever created :)

I really enjoyed the 2-player mode of Lemmings for the SNES growing up. Years later when i started LAN gaming i wanted to relive that gameplay but sadly discovered that there was no networked (or even modern) version available - so i decided to create one and convinced a friend to help.

Clones is our tribute to the Lemmings-style, with modern features like leaderboards, map editor, various gamemodes, team multiplayer, and co-op for singleplayer puzzles. Multiple checkpoints can be set so you can explore different solutions to the puzzles without having to do parts of the level over again. I prefer the the multiplayer for the strategy and quick thinking - just like the old days! :)

Well, with almost a 100 hours playing this I can say I got a very good deal for the little money I paid for the game. It was pretty entertaining for a long time. But, and that’s a big BUT, you must consider that nearing the end of the game there are some very, very obscure puzzles and… yeah: zero clues. The developers kinda had their fun providing solutions for the very easy ones but nothing for the hardest, which is kinda a nonsense and the biggest flaw in my view. To make things worst, there’s zero help on their website, other than cute coments, and found nothing relevant around the net.

Flockers™

Flockers™

Flockers bases on the Lemmings' game concept, but you should not expect an alike experience.

The nature of the sheep forces them to rely on the fancy abilities rather than tools that they have learnt throughout the long-term service for the worms, though there are placeable blocks they can climb. Frankly saying, the abilities are very few and the utilities too little to create diversity, but the environment makes a creative use of them, patching up a possibility of repetitiveness.

Flockers will challenge you with 66(!) levels, many of which players may find too demanding. The traps are countless, and some puzzles will keep you awake at night in search for the solution. The difficulty is especially visible when you aim to max out the game - you might start struggling at the beginning already. Because of that, I’d gladly see some saving feature, that could allow to correct mistakes or find out what contraptions do without pulling your hair out. The pause is much of help while in such trouble, unfortunately it’s far from perfect. You can’t place blocks or assign abilities while it’s active. Sometimes you have to pick a certain sheep among of an accumulated herd and if you happen to pick wrong, the whole run may go to waste.

Fresh take on Lemmings :) Think Worms Landscapes that are more diabolical, and Lemmings type of Game Play.

I loved playing lemmings when I was a child, this is the more grown-up version of it, with sheep instead of little pixilated men! Can be as gory or non-bloody if you so choose. The new environmental aspects are great, Tellaporters, gravity reversal, mines, sharp bone blades and, Worms driving Death Machines with saw blades and spikes ready to take out your flock without hesitation. Guide your Flock of sheep through the map using ability box’s you either start with or pick up along the way, to the trumpet looking exit vacuum. Making sure to do it as quickly as possible without losing too many of your sheep. Sacrifices are usually a necessity, except for rounds where you only have 1 sheep. Knowing that this game is still in Early Access stage, it’s one of the best functioning “Alpha’s” I’ve played in quite awhile.

Spirits

Spirits

Spirits incites feelings of calmness, relaxation and fun as equally as it does frustration. ~ 7/10

The beautiful glow effects and music give the game a sense of tranquility. However, you’ll find if you don’t enjoy trial & error, this sense of tranquility is quickly lost. Knowing the correct solution to a problem isn’t always good enough, as the game demands a certain amount of perfection in execution. Despite this, I found myself striving to achieve perfect scores on each stage, motivated to increase my World Rank which is a great feature of this game. The later stages being as difficult and sometimes unforgiving as they are makes completing them all the more satisfying. Overall, I’d recommend this if you enjoy a game that is visually/musically rich and you enjoy problem-solving/trial & error.

Spirits is a short name for little ghosts that pollinate plants in a magic forest.

This amazing puzzle game is in lower levels very easy to play and turned out in the last levels as quite challenging. It reminds me mostly of Lemmings. You have either these special abilities like digging through walls (bashing), blowing other spirits over gaps or blocking wind streams as a bloated spirit which you can assign to each of them. Of course then its life is lost. The aim is to bring as much as possible of them to the great magic swirl. Additional the spirits are reacting on windstreams but mostly they must be bewared of walking or floating into dangerous spikes everwhere. Dumb as lemmings …

Monomino

Monomino

So far this is a great puzzle/indie game. It’s cute and generally it’s just a timefiller.

The design is fitting the style although it’s a little basic. Everyone with small talents of art could pull off something like this. The babies are easy to distinguish in the levels and the overall clarity of elements and level parts are great.

The sound is somewhat mediocre. I feel that not much effort has been put into, especially since most tracks are constantly 10-seconds looped soundbits. It becomes boring after a short time and there is no mute button.

Let’s face it: work sucks. For most of us, there’s almost always about a million things we’d rather be doing than our current job. When the clock’s laughing in your face, you’ll find just about any reason you can think of to slack off. Suddenly, twirling your pencil becomes a sport, the Internet becomes your new work television, and Windows Solitaire has you ignoring every responsible thing you know you should be doing instead.

Enter Monomino, an E-rated casual puzzler developed by final year students from Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore. A delightfully casual game that’s both challenging and addictive, Monomino will have you clocking out early for lunch, then clocking in a whole half an hour late. It’s a highly addictive game that’s anything but dumb and easy.

Volvox

Volvox

This review recommends Neotenia’s puzzle game Volvox for its excellent, challenging gameplay and puzzle design, despite some rough aesthetics.

[. . .] Volvox‘s deceptively simple core mechanics (rotating and reorienting triangles by moving them around the levels and around each other) open the door for mind-bending levels that often function like brain teasers. [. . .]

Volvox is a strange and fascinating experience that you have to play if you like interesting game mechanics and wonderful 2D graphics.

In Volvox you control monocular and triangular creatures, called Trimoebas, in order to reach the “end” of each level. Every puzzle is a new step in the long journey to form various organisms. You have to make the Trimoebas “roll” to create more complex structures as you progress in the game, and you will use their special properties (like glue and explosion…) to solve challenging puzzles.

Ants! Mission of the salvation

Ants! Mission of the salvation

Pros:

Cheap, reminds me of lemmings.

Cons:

Short (not many levels), Easy (most of the levels are to easy), Hints (does not work, they show the wrong level), Game says you completed everything when you have atleast 5 levels left.

Summary:

If you played lemmings back when and you get it for around 50 cent go for it. You will waste about 2 hours between changing diapers and making dinner while game is still runnging.

Had to stop playing to write this. I love this game exactly what I was looking for! The music, animations and Ants are all top notch. Great game if you are into problem solving & fun.

Call of the Ninja!

Call of the Ninja!

A poor quality rip off of Lemmings. Really easy too.

Real player with 0.5 hrs in game

Really needs to give the player a little time to work before the ninjas start running…some levels are impossible to save all the ninjas because it starts immediately after the first icon is placed. Black cracks in the graphics due to not enough masking pixels on the edges of the sprites. I loved Lemmings, think I played all the way through it way back when. I’d really like to recommend this as it’s similar and I like the ninja theme. Right now it’s a bit too frustrating. A few little fixes and this could be great! Thumb sideways?!

Dwarflings

Dwarflings

This is a really likeable tactical puzzle game with oldschool taste which feels like the mix of Lemmings and Commandos. Here’re some reasons why you would like it (without particular order):

1. Art is simple, but very nice and with great attention to details, and quite a lot of them make you smile.

2. Rules and controls are very easy to learn, you do not really question how to play the game, you just play.

3. Levels are well-thought and each built around its own idea. There’s no complexity for the sake of complexity. Many of them will make you scratch your head, but once you get it right you go through. It never gets too long to bore you. Harder levels are sometimes followed with the easier to relax a bit, and then there’s a new puzzle.

Do not buy this, it is a terrible excuse for a game. It says it is “Lemmings meets Lost Vikings” but both of those were clever, well thought-out games that were fun - this is definitely not. Add in the covert in-app purchases and I think you have the measure of its design.

In short, you click one of a few icons to get the dwarf you are controlling to do something. The game has no charm, subtlety or depth. I am fairly sure that very few people continued far in, judging by the % ratings on each achievement. It only appears that I have played it for 11 hours because I idled it for the cards. I will now be uninstalling it and not wasting any more time on this poor effort.

Hell Invades Heaven

Hell Invades Heaven

Read carefully, as this story is too boring to read it again.

You, an absolutely newbie hellish commander, gain the possibility* to prove that all rumors about your person are at least 28% wrong, and you are in fact capable of commanding small forces in the greatest Hell vs Heaven war that ever happened**.

Put on your Unterleutnant uniform and do your job.

What you probably want to know:

  • 15*** almost beautiful, challenging levels on Hell, Earth and Heaven scenery.

  • 10 different minions, so you don’t need to do everything yourself.

  • A lot of challenging puzzles that may be impossible to solve for people under 5 y.o.

  • Interesting dialogues for full silent cinema experience.

  • You can decorate Devil with tattoos****.

  • Beware of holy water!

_* of course if you buy or torrent game, otherwise you will be seen as uncappable of this tasks for the rest of your life

** at least in this dimension; C137 and D2R2 are much more interesting in this case

As one of the less people who played this game maybe a bit longer (next to the main Dev of course), i guess it would be time now to write a review about this game - next to this i waited a bit before i write the review since the dev added a lot new things and stuff into the game and those might would have changed the review ever i would written it.

So after he also told me its now a good time to write one, i do it now.

Charming old school mining game!!!

BEWARE!!! you might have to learn how to play this game!

Remember when we used to print those things to go around the keyboards?

And your going to loose a lot of good men to attain some knowledge of the world.

The game lets you play away how you like.

You start with a 5 miners and a set amount of moves you can use like ‘bash’ or ‘build’.

Using these miners and moves you navigate through the floor and try to get some of the wee buggers back home.

Where you get some pennies for gems mined, buy up your moves and maybe some miners if you did well. And off you go again.
