距离玩完游戏已经很长时间了,不过决定还是来写个短评。很推荐!!虽然有点点阴森(对于我这个巨怕恐怖主题的人来说…),但到后来还是可以适应,稍微有点胆小的人绝对可以玩,一开始建议自己加个配乐🤦‍ 故事情节很喜欢,主打封建思想的弊端,在玩到芳芳的家庭作业以及她与陈老师对话的时候还是很感动的…如果学校里多一点像陈老师这样宽的人,可能孩子们儿时的天马行空就不会扼杀在摇篮里。另外主要让人脊背发凉的还是赵小娟的家庭,公婆的自私、恶毒、异想天开,把人逼上绝路,记忆最清晰的就是她公婆偶尔露出的监视她的半张侧脸,阴森无比。比较心疼的还是故事中的女性角色, 除了婆婆…最冤最惨的就是赵小娟,就不多说了。很喜欢给陈老师设计的结尾,故事中段太多死亡的悲凉到了她这里正好画风一转,到底是人是魂无从得知,但总体气氛给人的感觉是没有太多波折的平静加一丝有点憧憬的喜悦,还有就是《送别》这首歌真是选得太妙了,瞬间勾起自己小学的回忆,那时候这首歌贴在教室侧边的墙上,语文老师带着我们唱…啊…虽然是灭门案,但最终大家还是从这个小地方里解脱了,各不亏欠,用生命换这个村子一个大整顿。唯一可能有点不喜欢的就是这个人物画风,我咳咳,这个脸有点二次元,来点农村高原红都比这个更搭气氛。哎就写到这儿吧,大家要仔细了解还是去看知乎!

Play Mad Father first!

This game ties in quite a bit to Mad Father, so I highly suggest going and playing that first or you’ll miss a lot of things that are fun to find and connect. Did you play it? Ok now that you’re back we can continue. This game is a step up from Mad father in some ways and a step down in others. The main game’s art and animation are better, but for this they did seem to sacrifice the 2D character art such as when they speak. The individual dialog art and the rest of the 2D art during story sequences seemed a lot more detailed and of better quality in Mad Father. However I believe it’s worth it for the upgrade in the rest of the game’s animation and general art. Mad father had many harder parts and was scarier. This game is much more psychological in the fear factor. Which made it easier to solve things. Your choices have consequences and oh boy does it LOVE to punish you for them! It is so punishing, After playing this if you’re one of those people that seldom saves during a game or simply forgets to save, you will be hard pressed to try to not save any game again. I can’t remember a game that has so many constant implanted ways to die as this does.

! Like that damn phone.. kept forgetting that stupid thing was there.. It also has an interesting dynamic for the main umm.. character(s?). It goes all Pokemon on you with being a boy or a girl which you should fully play through both to get the full story. It’s also interesting how the biggest mystery in the game is the main character even after you finish it. It took me 8 hours to 100% this game with achievements!

Misao is a semi-old school Horror RPG with thriller elements and tense situations. If you want the basic plot, you play as a high school student who you can choose both the name and gender of. (Although, their canon name is supposedly Aki, there is no canon gender!)

The game follows Aki as they are wondering about what happened to a girl named Misao, who went missing 3 months ago. After getting ready and going to school, he/she overhears some students talking about some weird things going on in the school dubbed “Misao’s curse” by the students. After that, an anomalous event happens and you are found within the horror filled world of evil spirits and plentiful deaths that you know as Misao.

Detention (“Back to School"返校) is a point and click horror game made by Red Candle Games. The story takes place in Taiwan during the “White Terror” era in Taiwanese history where the ruling Kuomingtang (Nationalist Party) imposed strict martial law because of communist mainland China. This is an interesting time period to use as it is rarely depicted in popular culture. The main character Ray gets waken up by another student Wei, they must get out of their school.

Gameplay is your average point and click adventure game, collecting items, solving puzzles, just like point and click flash games I used to play when I was younger. Puzzles were sometimes difficult, but most of the time they were understandable.

The biggest issues I had with this game is its length and its language. As an American of Taiwanese descent, for me this game provides a fascinating view into Taiwanese folklore and history. The way the two have been intertwined in this game is nothing short of amazing. The flickering of red candles as a ghost greedily devours a bowl of rice placed in offering, the rows of prisoner cells with the bodies of political dissidents still trapped inside, the long tongue of a lantern specter leering down just inches away from the protagonist’s neck as she holds her breath just a little too long. Details like that really cement the atmospheric horror of the game into my mind. Not only that but the combination of supernatural haunting with the realism of life under martial law really drives home the paranoia of the era. A quick glance at Wikipedia will tell you that Taiwan at the time was under martial law for 38 years, one of the longest periods of time any place anywhere was under martial law. Just playing the game, it was obvious that Ray spent her entire life in that climate of paranoia, propaganda, and ordinary life with an undercurrent of political strife barely hidden beneath it. As a work of art, this game succeeds on a massive level.

*When you replay the game it’s really repetetive and only the endings are different.

Spoiler-Free, Mostly Blind, VR Review

I want the first thing you read to be this: if you’re on the fence about the core gameplay, you can try the free original , also on Steam! This is definitely the definitive version of the game, but if you at least want to try it before spending money on it then that option is there.

I also want to mention that I beat the main game 95% blind, then Karamari Hospital and The Doll House 100% blind, all in VR. I think it’s worth a buy even if you’ve played or seen the original just for a refresher considering it’s probably been since 2012. If you’re new or still not sure, I go into more detail below. Lastly, I haven’t played Endless Mode yet but I’m willing to bet it’ll be exactly like what I think it’ll be, so I won’t mention it again unless I play it later and I absolutely need to update my review.

Having reviewed the original version a little while back, I figure I should review the HD Renovation as well, especially as I have more hours logged in this version at this point.

Spooky’s Jump Scare Manion: HD Renovation is of course an updated version of the regular, free SJSM. Just as in the original, the goal is to go through 1,000 rooms, and escape the various enemies who chase you throughout. Minor gameplay differences are present between the two versions. I prefer this version over the original generally, because I much prefer the way this one’s health bar is handled when it comes to regenerating your health. It fills much faster than it did in the original game. In this version, the game also gives you an “open” prompt each time you are within range of opening a door so you know if a door is near you. This makes running from some specimens such as 6 and 11 easier if you are either facing away from the door or it’s invisible respectively.

I really enjoy this game. I would definitely say it’s worth the $2 price tag. It’s basically a scary “spot the differences”, and it can be pretty challenging sometimes. Of course, sometimes the differences will be easy to spot, like an intruder in a room or a gaping abyss or a light flickering on and off. Other times, however, the differences will be more subtle. A small object missing, something slightly moved, a small waving ghost way in the background, etc. Be prepared for some nude intruders and at least one masturbating intruder (although nothing graphic is shown in that case).

I don’t know why I forced myself to finish this. Guess I took it as a challenge and kept going. Should have stopped sooner. I don’t really get how this has so many good reviews, when it is just a horror-themed “spot the difference” game, with a few jump-scares here and there. Some anomalies are ambiguous, and when you try to report them, you fail because you didn’t reported them as the game wanted you to. The game goes by super slowly; like, incredibly so (there wasn’t a single playthrough where I didn’t feel bored many times). Reporting takes forever, and if you have 4 anomalies at the same time, you lose, so faster reporting matters. You eventually learn what kind of things to expect and where, and that’s when you get through to the end; of course, nothing really happens when you win, it just ends. Feedback would have been nice, so that you know what you missed; since there are many random occurrences, it shouldn’t really spoil it; however, as it is, you just learn how many anomalies you found, and how many you didn’t (which is always 4 if you lose, so that doesn’t really tell you anything). There’s no story whatsoever, and the “attacks” you receive have way less of an impact, since you are just looking through cameras; even if something like this happened in real-life, nothing could harm you. You can also lose suddenly due to some of the anomalies, annoyingly ending your game, no matter how well you were doing it. On top of all of that, it’s poorly optimized: I don’t know what, in this kind of game, could get my fans to start working, or how, but it happened every time; evidently, it takes more resources than it should for gameplay like this. Lastly, I was fine with the mild nudity, it wasn’t really that bad… until you see a guy masturbating in the bathroom. That’s not just nudity, that’s sexual content, something which I didn’t expect to find, and didn’t like one bit. It should have been warned on the store page, and if it had been, I wouldn’t have bought it. It happened on my last playthrough, and that was definitely it for me. I really can’t recommend this at all.

Well, it’s 2019 as of right now, folks, so I’m sure you’ve heard of “metahorror”. This game is the founding father of that genre. Without IMSCARED, you wouldn’t have your Space Blaster (Lines), A Dark Place or Mono.exe. AppSir and Team Salvato would be off the map in the metahorror genre. What else? This game set the formula. It did it so well that it sort of created a “formula” of sorts that I see most games of the same genre follow. I have yet to find another game with the same charm as it has. It’s such a simplistically made game, and it’s an absolute masterpiece. I don’t want to spoil too much, but take my word, if you can feel fear, this game will damn well make you afraid of your own computer.

Why Should You Trust My Review?

I have spent over 35 hours on this game and have achieved all achievements, I have played through every level and currently every custom map available on the steam workshop, thus making me familiar with the games mechanics and quirks. I will also state that this game will NOT be for everyone, that is not to say you won’t enjoy this game, but quite clearly MLP (although not associated with) has somewhat of an inspiration (Cpt. Obvious! I know right?!). So, with it’s grim-dark premise, D’LIRIUM is a short and enjoyable game with ‘interesting’ mechanics with a creepy atmosphere. And who else can describe their game better than the developers themselves? As I can confirm what they describe about the game is what you are 100% getting!

Well, when I saw this game on youtube I knew one thing for certain: The dialogue is stitched on but the gameplay is great.

I was not entirely wrong, as both the ending and the intro scene have characters with strange attitudes that fit with the overarching story like ass. Why Ada cares for Claudia is clear, as you can kinda-sorta sense an air of friendship between the duo, but why she cares for Dismas and Gestas, despite being called idiots several times is beyond my understanding. Not to mention we don’t get an explanation as to why the hell Abel, someone whose character seems to be that of a mentor would ever give Ada such a powerful tool if he suspected she would use it the way she did.

I’ve trashed up a lot of VR games' Steam forums with long-winded posts about how those games could totally be just as fun in non-VR, so I felt ethically obligated to put my money where my mouth is and buy Duck Season PC the moment I saw it. Thankfully, I was -totally- right in all of those arguments, and Duck Season has officially provided me with an example of a great non-VR port I can point to whenever I inevitably get in another one.

Gameplay

At its core, Duck Season is a game about shooting ducks with a shotgun, essentially a modern Duck Hunt with fancy graphics, and I was actually pretty impressed with how fun it managed to be even without the extra appeal of the motion-tracked controls from the VR version. The aiming controls are tight and responsive, and the pellet spread is incredibly faithful to how an actual shotgun would perform, so even though the gameplay is pretty basic it’s still plenty of fun, especially if you’re going for high-scores or trying to give yourself an extra challenge by playing hipfire-only.

I struggle to articulate what it is about this game that left such an impact on me, but I couldn’t let Year Walk go without giving it my recommendation.

I’ve always enjoyed subtle horror elements in video games, but never been a fan of pure horror games for mostly one reason. The jumpscare as of recent in horror has become what autotune is in the modern music industry. A tool for an artist to improve their art, not a means to cover up a lack of talent by littering one’s creation with it, and Year Walk does a great job of using this tool alongside it’s many others to craft a uniquely unsettling experience.

In short, Year Walk is the mobile port of a game you never played (but should), and about folklore you never knew about (but should).

In long, Year Walk is based on the pagan ritual of Årsgång, and the Swedish folklore behind it. In theory, if the participant survived or passed certain tests during the Walk, he would be able to see into the future.

Done on nights that were believed to be more magically and spiritually charged than others, such as new years eve, Christmas eve, and solstices, the participant was required to deprive himself of food, rest, and light for a day before making his way through the woods to the nearest churchyard. It was there, if he was deemed worthy enough, he could learn his fate and the fates of others in the year to come.
