Influent

Influent

At the time of writing this review, I’ve mastered all 420 words the game has to offer, and completed all the tasks on the ‘To Do’ list. I played the English version of the game, so that’s the one I’ll be reviewing. I also own the Japanese pack, but I haven’t completed that one yet.

One thing I’d like to start with is that ‘Influent’ never advertises, nor does it claim to make one fluent in any of the languages available here (and I double checked this). The description of the game here on the store page clearly states that it is a game focused on VOCABULARY ACQUISITION and PRONUNCIATION. It never claims to teach one grammar, syntax, conversation, or any other facet of language. I feel like a lot of people thought ‘Influent’ was a full-blown language learning tool, which it is not. The negative reviews here are unnecessary and uncalled for. Having addressed that, let’s move on to the actual content.

Before I begin my review of Influent, let’s all get real about language learning:

Learning a language is difficult. For adult learners, there’s no exception to this, and the how-to of language learning is a skill in itself. Becoming conversational, let alone fluent, in a foreign language takes significant time. Someone otherwise very smart once declared to me that they intended to learn Japanese in a ‘generous’ three days, so that they could read untranslated manga. Suffice to say, it didn’t happen.

I felt that while this helped me a little that it was a little over priced.

I do not want to give it a negative review but I wish it had more.

Thanks.

Let’s Learn Korean! Hangul

This game fucking pisses me off. It made me redo the match 3 multiple times even though i passed it with 100 percent, I click advance then it just puts me back to the map of korea with no new level unlocked. Has happened multiple fucking times and im getting fucking heated.

Good for learning korean negative part is same bullshit minigames. And it doesn’t even review the past characters you have learned to check your memorization bullshit game. Though I do recommend this.

If you’re a certified dummy like me and nothing else helped you learn Hangul, THEN BUY THIS GAME. TRUST ME.

I will admit it, I am no good at learning new things. Especially languages. I downloaded app after app and purchased a few books on how to learn Hangul. Every source said you can learn Hangul in about an hour. I still couldn’t learn it!!! So for a last hail mary I decided to buy this and hope for the best. OMG this helped me learn Hangul so fast it’s almost crazy. I am super surprised at how beginner friendly this game is. It almost makes me regret spending so much money on trying to learn Hangul before.

it’s okay for building vocabulary. it’s basically a flashcard game more or less. You should already know how to read korean for this. learning hangul is easy and you can learn it in an hour or two.

you get various categories, and 9 words related to that topic. one example is bathroom, you get 9 things that might be in your bathroom and play basically a flashcard game.

there are 6 major topics, written in korean: food, animals, objects, places, numbers, and concepts.

numbers are exlusively sino-korean numbers, with no native korean numbers.

Molecule - a chemical challenge

Molecule - a chemical challenge:

Chemistry was one of those subjects that I personally found boring when I was at school. To this day, I still don’t understand why a student who was studying commerce needed to have an idea about chemistry! The only explanation that I can think of, is that the school was trying to turn its students into some sort of alchemists, turning rocks into gold and making money for the school! If only they were able to teach chemistry in a fun way, just like in Molecule – a chemical challenge!

Interesting and intriguing puzzler. Definitely challenging.

I applaud the developer for prompt and quick fixes to any issues, and the recent critical bug I noticed looks to have been completely fixed. So I am giving this brainteaser a thumbs up again.

## The Geology Game

This has the potential to be a very nice little game, but the user interface needs a little tweaking. Still, well worth the price.

First of all, I have to unplug my secondary monitor when I start the game. Otherwise the screen size and placement will not work. It's okay to plug in again, though. I can even move the game window to the external screen without any problems. Adjusting monitor settings back and forth might solve the problem if you have only one screen. If I understood the reviews correctly, somebody actually got a refund because of this! Some customer support might have been a better solution…

I picked this game because not only it was inexpensive but also it was potentially good educational game for my children to learn about geology, minerals, and ancient life on Earth. Once you know how to play and use the interface, it becomes entertaining in a limited manner. After two days with the game, I had my fill. The value of the game is not so much from its playability but rather from the joy of building your museum with fossils and minerals from your increasingly skilled geologists going all over the world breaking rocks and revealing what is inside the rocks. As you build and enrich your museum’s portfolio of fossils and minerals, you get some satisfaction. If one uses the links from the exhibits (they themselves do not communicate much), one can learn much about the different types of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic bedrocks; minerals like silicates, ores, gems, precious metals, oxides, sulfates, sulfides, oxides, carbonates and phosphates; and animals and plants from the Paleozoic, the Mesozoic and the Cenozoic.

## The Language Game

I tried it with my friend and we liked it. It's like most other language apps but I was learning Italian and he was learning Spanish at the same time. The blockbusters thing seems really simple at first but it's actually quite tactical.

It's obviously a mobile port, but works pretty good on a laptop. Will take it with me on holiday and use it on the plane.

Could use more languages, I'd like to see Japanese on here!

I tried out the French a bit, and compared it to the free Duolingo program on the web, and I like both programs for different reasons . What I like about The Language Game is that you can switch between languages quickly, and cross refence your data, and it also appears that you don't always have to be online to use it . Go ahead and blow 5 bucks if you want to spruce up your bardic tongue . Polish, Hindi, and Japanese would be nice options to add later - I'm hoping to see more downloadable content in the future .

## Wired

Its a really good game, very informative - taught me many things. Also has a nice layer of story to accompany the puzzles. :)

It's long, with plenty of puzzles, but not as long as my playtime suggests! xD

I made it to the final puzzle around the 8-9 hour mark and was stuck there.

Felt like what I was trying should have worked but when I finally solved it, turns out I'd been so close… TT

I'd suggest this:

A) Only autosave if the player is within the furthest puzzle-room reached or,

B) Keep the current save implementation but include "Continue from furthest puzzle-room" for each save slot

This was better than I expected. It’s a puzzle-platformer with an emphasis on puzzle instead of platformer. This game is intended to teach a little about electricity, so you have to figure out how to wire up the machines properly in order to complete each level. For example, it might take two volts to open one door and one amp to open another door. If you have the machines wired up properly, then the platforming part isn’t that hard. Well, there was one level near the end where I had a little trouble jumping onto the ladders, but falling off a ladder doesn’t do any damage, so I was able to just try again. I got the hang of it after a few tries. On the whole, it was a good game. I’d be interested in a sequel.

## A Percent of a Pirate

I paid $0.54 for this game and I don't know if it was worth it. I often buy kid games because I have a child and figure they will play these at some point. I also find them relaxing and a nice little break compared to the high paced competitive games I often play. This is an interesting Math game that I found very confusing. The math is right, but confusing at times, especially how sometimes they do this diagonal arrow thing. It took me a moment to realize they only wanted the answer for one arrow at a time. It at first seemed complex and confusing when trying to understand what they actually meant/wanted as it lacks direction. I finished this in an hour and a half and probably could have done it sooner, As of now I could still request a refund with this being under 2 hours played, but I'm not that annoyed with it to do so. I just think if I had a child attempting to do this I'd have to really sit down and explain a lot of the problems as it was not intuitive to me. I don't think this is a bad game, but it's very short. There are definitely far better options that are easier to understand, especially for a game designed for young children. Based on that, and the lack of replay I do not recommend it, even at it's current price.
