Sweet Surrender VR

Sweet Surrender VR

nearly 10 hours in, and I’m a HUGE fan of this game. It has some bugs, but definitely makes up for it by being one of the most fun VR games currently out there by far, in my opinion.

let me say first that the reviewers not recommending this must be incredibly hard to please, you know the type… the gamers who throw controllers, and rage about bugs.

the game just came out, bugs are to be expected. with that said though, I do think this should have been listed as early access.

I’ve encountered plenty of game breaking bugs, such as:

I wanted to like this game a lot. But in the end, I couldn’t. The core concept of the game is great, but it has too many design flaws and way too many bugs.

The Good:

  • Great performance

  • Chip upgrade system is fun in concept

  • When firing on all cylinders, combat situations are a lot of fun

The Bad:

  • Bad weapon balance. Two handed weapons are almost impossible to use. I would be astonished to see anyone actually complete a level with a shotgun. Dual wielding automatic weapons will always be the superior choice in every situation.

This is both a review and a word of advice to players before they begin, regarding how to play it.

Advice:

Play the game on Hard or Hard Bastard difficulty, not Normal difficulty.

Explanation and review:

I was this close to writing a negative review of Void Bastards, after finishing it on Normal difficulty. I enjoyed it, but the amount of content was mismatched with the price, and I’d purchased it - despite reading other reviews to that effect - hoping the game would continue to be expanded.

Deadnaut

Deadnaut

Deadnaut provides a lot of creepy atmosphere, fun and replayability.

When I bought Dreadnaut and entered the game, I didn’t expect much based on the trailers available. It seemed just like all those top-down squad RTS games, which there are hundreds of. It was only 10 euros, so I decided to jump it and test it out.

I immediately reached out for the character creation. I’ve always been one for creating my own party/character, since the game experience feels a lot more personal. The character creation has two minor bugs, which I did not realize were bugs until I read the forums for a tutorial on character creation. The bugs:

In one campaign your fighting off waves of fast moving xenomorphs, through the flurry of fast moving xeno’s you see one of your men get dragged away through a airlock. Yet in another campaign you may be contending with the possessed remains of a former crew driven insane by unknown artifacts, behemoths throwing your soldiers around as artifacts obscure your command and control with horrifying visions of death and torture.

Deadnaut’s is a game that wants to immerse you in its universe. Your hud looks akin to something from a WW2 submarine simulation and your control over your soldiers is sketchy at the best of times. There are a large amount of things to take into consideration with Deadnaut’s and many ways for those under your command to come to harm or die, this may be the one area the game faulters in. It is a real time tactical squad based game, essentially a rogue like.

Gobby McGobblenutz Presents: The Art of the Dad Joke: Chapter 1

I love Dad Jokes and this did not disappoint!! This was a great distraction from what is going on in our world right now!! Thanks to the developers of this silly game!! Totally worth the small amount I paid. 3

BTw My secret word was WTF and I got 186 points!!

Okay, this was amazing LMAO

I’m a big fan of stupid humor and there were a few jokes I’ve heard before, but even one or two new ones is well worth the low pricetag. I’ve already sent a few of these jokes to my sister and best friend and they were dying. lol

And there’s like, hundreds of jokes here. Really can’t complain at all, thoroughly satisfied with this one! :)

Woops forgot to put my word in my review, haha.

The word it gave me was Ridiculous.

I love it!

Safe Not Safe

Safe Not Safe

Ever wondered how stealth games of the future will look like?

This is how. Safe Not Safe reinvigorates the genre in several fundamental ways.

Meaningful exploration

Every mission is a completely new procedurally generated level. Explore freely and find your own way to the goal without a pre-designed solution.

Worthy Opponent

Powerful AI controls the whole base and commands robotic security. The AI is adapting to your actions and builds smarter and stronger defences on the fly.

Real Challenge

Rogue-lite elements are challenging but fair. No saves during the missions – success depends only on your plan and the way you combine your skills and gear.

Thru

Thru is a modern day Oregon Trail.

Thru is a game about thru-hiking, which involves walking thousands of miles to get where you’re trying to go instead of taking a bus like a sensible person.

Thru allows you to virtually thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail

-You start and work your way north or south evading the winter line.

  • You begin with a generic hiker who you can customize and level up between sections and thrus.

  • Every hiker generated is remembered, they remember all hikers they’ve interacted with.

Fear Equation

Fear Equation

I find it somewhat baffling that this mostly excellent game seems to have been released and then forgotten by most. While most games at least have a reddit sub dedicated to them, there is nothing for this game at all. Very few comments on indie game sites as well. Which is a shame, since it seems that, as a forgotten game, the chances of ever getting a sequel with enhanced mechanics is slim.

My only complaint with the game is that the social/faction mechanic is simply not as fleshed out as it could be. That whole aspect can be almost ignored with no consequence. Do they like you? Are they going to revolt? Meh…no matter most of the time. I would have liked to see some more interaction with the passengers themselves; in terms of maybe getting more detailed information by clicking on an individual passenger (relationship graphs to other passengers and to you. rumours, etc…) and perhaps be able to take more actions to affect their behaviour (ie. craft an edict. make a deal to send someone in with propaganda, etc…)

Real player with 28.1 hrs in game

Overall, a visually beautiful, slower-paced game that reqiures you to manage the resources on the train, assign passengers to carriages based on their factions to prevent internal conflicts, and build defenses against the fog. Once you reach a destination, you can send passengers out to search for items/food/fuel, either through a random lottery or by rigging the lottery to send your stronger passengers.

It’s not a reactive game, like Deadnaut, instead you plan ahead and then watch it executed. Personally I prefer this style, but I tend to like management games anyway.
