So I left this review simmering for far too long - and I have been admittedly fraudulent in not giving an update. However, I will say that I’m glad I waited as long as I did, because there is literally not enough good things to say. Am I writing a review for a completed game? Absolutely not. However, I’m reviewing a game that at its current state is 100% playable and enjoyable.

I’ll begin by correcting the claims from my prior review - the economy is now stable and effective, the gameplay is devoid of all major bugs, with the minor ones being easily self correctable with no negative impact to the progression. For an assembly style game, the aesthetic feels great, the engine is not taxing on the computer, and the overall assembly process feels great with plenty of room for individual optimization and creativity.

As much as I’ve played this game, after all said and done, I just wish it had more content to keep you invested, but it is in Alpha and this is one to keep an eye on if you like this style of game as the developers release patches and content consistently. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game for the first 20 hours or so but it became extremely repetitive once you optimized certain production lines and did all the research possible.

The bones of this are good, the graphics are great, and there’s something extremely satisfying about tweaking a manufacturing line until it’s optimized, then further adding other producting lines and having certain machines do the work of both lines so you can eliminate waste (i.e, having 2 lines use the same sewer/zipper, etc.

Pirate Simulator

Pirate Simulator

  • Build your ship

Start as a rookie sailor on a boat as tiny as a canoe and use your smart pirate moves to buy, craft or “arrange” add-ons for your dream vessel. Replace necessary parts, attach equipment needed for rides, focus on speed or durability, choose your own style of ruling the seas!

  • Gather the crew

Galleons are great, but you need a crew to run it. Visit towns and harbors along your way, have a pint or five and recruit a crew that will make you a real pirate!

  • Extend your base

Whether it’s trading, looting or finding treasures, you need to collect and stack your goods somewhere. When you spot this perfect place on a beach or inside a cave, claim it and take care of infrastructure and buildings to make your company thrive.

  • Find treasures

…and a way to look for them. You can turn every rock upside down and check every inch of the sea bottom, but if time is a factor, try searching for other pirates, merchants and shady people who may know a few stories about hidden chests.

  • Go on a ride

As it happens sometimes - a pirate won’t make a living from the trade alone and needs to incorporate a bit more dynamic forms of getting the necessary resources. On the seas, you might meet other fellow ships that just carry too much goods not to loot them. Way more efficient than honestly earned money.

Become a pirate! Arr!

I Fetch Rocks

I Fetch Rocks

The year is 2150. You’ve successfully landed a job working for one of the many mining facilities stationed in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. Using a company issued Asteroid Hauler, your job is to search for mineral rich asteroids and tow them back to the primary mining facility for further processing.

Be warned, this trivial sounding job will push you to your creative engineering limits. The asteroid belt is extremely dangerous, radiation and cosmic rays will continuously degrade the components of your ship. Over the course of your employment you will need to become intimately familiar with how all ship systems operate and fit together so that you can rearrange, rewire and reprogram them as they fail around you. You’ll need to get creative to survive and get your payload back to the primary mining facility.

Territory - animals genetic strategy

Territory - animals genetic strategy

Territory is an isometric 2D real-time single player strategy about genes and animal species. Animals are behaving the way they would in nature, but you can indirectly control them and mutate them to achieve various goals like dominance in the ecosystem.

Core Gameplay Mechanics - Challenge Mode

  • you are entering the game with one species and mutate it to different species later on

  • you are playing on the map with existing ecosystem that is producing various sources of food

  • you are changing species genome and that is changing its attributes and behaviour

  • map is populated with various species (~10 depending on map size), species can die out, species can mutate to new species in time

  • each species has its own territory, its size and shape can be adjusted

  • species can be herbivores, omnivores or carnivores and can have one of five different sizes

  • species lives complete live from being born to death, need food to survive

  • individual animal can die in fight, starve to death, can be killed by predator, die by disease or die by old age

  • species are hostile only when they share the same source of food and has similar size

  • you can migrate your species to new territories

  • you can invade enemy species on its territory

  • you can defend your territory from enemy species

  • you are evaluating your surroundings and complete ecosystem to determine your next steps

  • species are reacting indirectly on player’s command if certain conditions are met (migrate to new territory only when not being hungry, having certain genes, etc.)

Core Gameplay Mechanics - Sandbox Mode

  • you are playing on the map without any species

  • you can create unlimited number of species

  • your goal is to achieve the largest biomass and/or diversity

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! There are way too many bugs, the major one is that you cannot craft water jars, which is a necessity, if you want to live. I have also attempted to contact the Developer with no success. I am wondering if the Dev has abandoned this game. I enjoyed playing the Demo, so I bought the game. I can tell you that it does NOT play like the Demo, it plays like an early Alpha. Do yourself a favor and avoid this fiasco. I tried to get a refund from Steam, but evidently I played for more than 2 hours, which is the limit. I have 550 games on Steam, and this is the first time I have left a bad review.

So to start the game you grab a bunch of loose stone and wood from the ground. If you grab all of the loose stone and then die of fall damage (which is easier then you would think) and can’t get to your inventory again you pretty much can’t get more.

House Builder: First Job

House Builder: First Job

I really think this game has great potential! I loved playing the first two jobs and can’t wait to see what else there will be.

The building crafting mechanics unfortunately got rather tiring over time, as I constantly yeeted the raw tiles for the roofing when I tried to get them into the oven, so that I needed to make new ones. Also, the distances are hard to guess when using the hand tool/drag-and-drop, which for me made it difficult at times to get the clay into the form.

I would like to be able to collect the raw materials as well (not just the finished ones) and clicking them into their crafting destination, instead of having to drag-and-drop them, risking to lose them whenever I move aound too quickly.

House Builder: First Job

…is a crafting simulator. Build a shelter in the northern ice lands or the African jungle, using basic material from your surroundings.

⚙ Game Description & Mechanics ⚙

Two locations are made available for you to choose from, although the game implied that you start with Greenland and then move to Middle-Africa. Both offer a very different building style: the igloo requires that you to keep a warm fire burning while gathering ice blocks cut from the ground, and a mudbrick house made requiring rocks for the foundation, bamboo sticks and vines for the structure and clay and water for the walls and roof. Both locations have a dangerous beast lurking around (a bear in the first, a lion in the second) from which you need to keep your distance of.

Space Colony: Steam Edition

Space Colony: Steam Edition

I really like this game. It has been described as The Sims in Space. I have never liked The Sims games as I find that they are far too repetitive and boring. Space Colony is a good building game, The Sims element is that you do have to be aware of the needs of your operatives to improve production. This does give an extra twist to the game that you have to think about and some of the challenges are based around ensuring that your crew are reletively happy or they won’t work.

Any Building Sim worth it’s salt should have an element of ensuring that you are providing basic things, such as food, so I don’t find this particularly strange, as some have mentioned. Making sure your crew does not go mad while on an abandoned planet does give the game an additional challenge.

well i dont know what to say, i really want to like this game but its more about mini managing all of the peoples quirks than it is about building a colony. the maps are very small so building is limited even in sandbox mode. there are numerous objects on maps that cannot be removed (maybe by bombs in free mode ?) forcing you to make odd looking and crappy base layouts in most cases.

alot of the quests are just kind of gimmicky, in a previous scenario you will unlock items for the quest, yet the very next quest acts like you never used them before just to make certain quests “seem” harder. although there is an option to download user made content so thats a plus.
