This is the seedling of the ideal Halloween game, for which I’d gladly pay a big-game price. Seriously, they are onto something that is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It does have its issues though, which even at the current price, totally ruined it for me. I tried to detail exactly why in the forums; nobody likes negative feedback, but the mods deleted most of my comments, then called me insulting and toxic, and banned me. I’ve never been banned from anything before so this was bewildering. I attempted to get more information from them, but couldn’t get a response. I then asked for a refund which, since I’d played the game over 2 hours (struggling to solve a riddle), was of course denied. Steam Support failed to help. Buyer beware.

Heartless Dark

Heartless Dark

I can recommend this if you enjoy some atmosphere and an interesting challenge.

If you get over the initial learning curve the game has a lot of that ‘one more game’ feeling.

The dark and restricted vision can make it tough to navigate.

Once you get used to it then the challenge becomes not running out of ammo.

Once you get used to that the challenge becomes figuring out how to fight the monsters in interesting ways using the game systems (maybe kiting them through acid or stunning them with an exploding fire extinguisher).

A very atmospheric and lethal rogue like. You have to budget your limited ammo and life against enemies that hit hard and fast but I’ve never lost a like a run thinking there was nothing I could do about it. Finding bullets and upgrades is always rewarding.

Visually stunning! I wasn’t expecting many spooks from this and was honestly low-key hoping for more of a walking simulator experience where you get to peacefully walk around an abandoned plague-ridden ghost town and admire the sights and scenery without having to worry about spooks, unexpected chase sequences, or regular threats to my life, but The Wine did a good job of delivering a healthy mixture of both! I’m especially thankful for the addition of what I affectionately call “baby mode” which will automatically vanish homicidal maniacs after a solid minute of running around so that you can solve your puzzles in peace. I kept baby mode on for the whole game but only noticed it twice on particularly awkward puzzles, and it definitely didn’t diminish the experience of the game or make it any less scary!

White Day VR: The Courage Test

A prety cool and short little horror game. The movement control is terrible but other than that its ok but dont bother collecting every item bc the leaderboard is broken and dont even register youre score if you managed to find all the items…..just go for the normal and the bad ending.

Son.Light.Sleepwalker

Son.Light.Sleepwalker

This game is something else, in a great/scary way. I was surprised to be presented with full voice acting throughout the game. I was expecting it to be another fnaf clone but this is far from anything that fnaf has shown us. I have noticed very few bugs even though it is still in early access, so that is something you should expect.

I will now go through the pros and cons of this game…

PROS

*Full voice acting

*Engaging storyline

*Great jumpscares

*ONLY 2 DOLLARS!!

*Fantastic Lighting

CONS

*The only con for this game would be that you dont own it yet!! ;)

Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time

Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time

Doctor Who Edge of time plays out like a great feature length episode of the show - playing an average Joe, going through your mundane life you’re suddenly thrown into the deep-end as the doctor draws you in to a journey through time and space piloting the TARDIS to save the universe.

Gameplay wise, rather than try and turn this into an action focused adventure, this is full of escape room puzzles, which is probably the best fit for the franchise as these are exactly the kind of scenarios you would expect the doctor and their companion to get into - if you’re looking for anything more action oriented then this isn’t for you, and there are great many other games that will scratch that itch, I for one loved the atmosphere and presentation is excels at delivering some outstanding moments - stepping into the yard is for the first time really felt special, it really is bigger on the inside!!

This will be my first ever review on steam. I don’t normally do this, but I love the franchise so much, that I want to get it out there.

Warning: Spoliers - But not exactly having to do with the entire plot, so read on if you’d like.

1. The movement.

Yes, I’m starting with everything - not because I think my opinion is extremely important, but from the view of someone who likes the show and vr. I feel like the basic movement could be a bit faster. The teleporting is fine and all, but I think the smooth turning and walking could be faster. It feels like when you try to run in your dreams, but you can’t because your legs are being weighed down. If the doctor tells me to “run”, you know I wanna run - not trudge my way through soup. And if you can throw the viewer into the Doctor Who title sequence, with the spinning and turning, and the Time Vortex, I’m sure that they can handle turning a little faster than what the highest allowed speed is.

Lapso: NIMBO

Lapso: NIMBO

Nimbo: “flat circular device that emits some kind of light."

Lapso: NIMBO is the prologue to a beautiful exploration puzzle game that will hopefully be released later this year.

Following the tracks of a hiker who mysteriously disappeared, we explore mysterious caves where we find strange drawings and constructs. We also have to solve a few puzzles to progress but nothing too hard as all the solutions can be found in the environment.

The least we can say is that the game is stunning and meticulous care was taken in its design as in the lights and sounds effects.

Nimbo is the project of two Spanish developers, if I’m not mistaken. For now, it’s a short prologue with a sci-fi mystery narrative. The story takes place in Rockrose about the mystery of some lights that haunt on the place. Our character Kali Müller decides to go to the place to investigate about the nature of the enigmatic lights. He will be surprised to find a cavern with strange objects, out-of-this-world artefacts, and writing that he has never seen before. In the game there are some documents and photographs with an interesting text as clues to unveil the mystery of the appeared lights. Well, —I confess that I really liked the narrative of the game in Spanish. It has been a long time since I read or played anything in Spanish—. Despite being a short game, it offers a promising atmosphere of mystery throughout. That reminds me a bit of game in the part of the caverns: The Forest. The aesthetics of the game play on a harmonious combination of chiaroscuro between the nature of the earth with the technology and alien writing. That can be seen with the waterfall or the caverns and the luminous writing in various parts of the place. The development of the plot appears to be linear, because sometimes it teleports us from one place to another in the shape of the branches of a tree. There will always be a node connection between each branch of our journey. Not only attracts the storytelling and aesthetic aspect of the game. Those logical nodes of the narrative occur in the teleport jump. The effect of that: an almost filmic showing of the game. What unites these jumps or scene changes is the solution of a puzzle within the game. The puzzles are simple, but interesting, with the appearance of interacting with strange technology. All that is in our way will be the clues to solve the mystery locked in Rockrose. That combination of modest phosphorescence, a minimalist-ambient music and the dark colour of earthly nature, the developers offer an interesting and promising game proposition. With simple and affordable game mechanics, as well as a visual design that captures our attention at all times. We hope to know more about this interesting game.

I can’t believe I played this game 20 years ago and it’s still a blast. Well, it’s my number one game, just look at my avatar.

Technology:

The way this game is meant to be played is with TFix + HDMod. I repeat !!!TFix!!! (not TGTool). I can safely say that now the game looks better than ever, even compared to its original release back in 98. The reason why is pretty simple - the hardware limitations at that time were quite significant. TFix patches the game with the unofficial New Dark Engine lifting the limitations imposed by the original Dark Engine. There are many improvements: support for higher resolution, the in-game objects have significantly more polygons, bugfixes, HD textures.

It is amazing how as computing technology improves and new tools such as VR are introduced that consumers continue to pine for ‘better’ and ‘more immersive’ games, as though immersion is some ideal we may hope to one day achieve once the graphics are good enough and the gadgets we attach to our forehead become more effective. However, one need only look back to the late 90’s, when a developer known as Looking Glass studios was already forging the path for immersive simulators decades ahead of time.
