Big thank you to my darling daughter who I unwisely made an agreement with over this game. After finding it in the survival section of the store she insisted on buying it for me on the understanding that I would clock up an ungodly number of hours on it and no being asleep in from of my computer allowed. Laughingly I agreed - I mean I like cute junky kiddie games, how bad could it be…?

sigh

I got so bored I actually wrote a guide for it. .

Okay so you have a pony and it walks around in a vaguely cute environment. Unfortunately everything that comes after that feels like someone sketched a vague idea for it out and then forgot to actually implement it. Instead you end up with a weird game which is “watch the loading bars.” Want your pony to work an 8 hour shift? Watch a loading bar for 30 seconds! Want your pony to enjoy a film? Watch that loading bar go! Feel like taking your pony to university and training in a new career? You guessed it! Loading bar! There actually is no content beyond loading bars to basically everything you do, not even tiny animations. I really cannot stress how devoid of content this game is. Even when you have an entire section of items called “Toys” barring two of them (which are also reused as the only two animation in the social interactions with other ponies) all that happens when you play with them is that the icon that represents them appears in a though bubble above your pony for a few seconds.

First of all, complaining about graphics doesn’t seem like something relative. You see from the screenshots how the graphic is. Also keep in mind that this game is from like 2007, not 2014. It’s not a modern game. It’s an old game.

The one big downside of this game is the lack of tutorials. You don’t get explained things and have to figure things out on your own. But it could be fine if you enjoy figuring things out by yourself. I managed to do it. Now I know how to better all stats.

The music is pretty much the same the whole time, and sometimes I find it irritating that there’s no speed up button or such. Also there’s just the three choices in the beginning and you have to complete tasks to unlock the different riding paths. And it can be a drag having to run back and forth everywhere, tho at least you can run.

I can’t say too much, as this looks like an older game re-released on Steam many years later, but even taking that into consideration, this game is lacking. Let’s do my usual list -

Pros:

  • Like the inclusion of horse breeding.

  • I like the fact you have three different “play modes”, if you will. But I don’t think they’re any different from each other! (I simply wasn’t intrigued enough to play them all - I just finished all the tasks in “stable manager/horse breeder” (whatever it is called…) mode.)

I dunno why this game has so many negative reviews but I’m gonna say that I enjoyed this.

Yes, the controls were a bit odd but you’ll get used to it in time.

The races are a bit difficult if you don’t know how to control the horse’s stamina.

You don’t really need to care your horses everyday. Just be sure to have medicine in store and you can skip 2-3 days if you want. I did this to get achievements faster.

Plus you don’t have to clean your horse everyday or take them outside at all if you don’t want to. Just keep medicine in your pockets and keep the horses in stable. It saves time and effort.

Awful controls, very little to do, practically everything you do is a tedious chore that’s not fun.

I played through it because I wanted to see everything this game has to offer and I can confidently say it was a terrible investment of my time. Even your horse-crazy kids deserve better.

WYSIWYG.

I just wanted to click something ridiculous for a few minutes and this game delivered on that.

30 easy achievements if you’re a collector, but it can be confusing because the images are of horses.

This game is made for young children. You do not get any of the in-depth aspects of equestrian events like timing strides or disease/injury. The shows are just time trials with some jumping.

I’m not a big fan of the controls - I like that I can use wasd but I can’t easily use a mouse for most things which is a bit of a nuisance. The horses also suck at doing horse things. They can’t go over uneven ground so they will randomly stop and rear even if there is a tiny bump in the trail. They can’t go into or jump over water. You don’t press anything to jump, you just have to run towards something and it jumps for you (or stops and rears because it decided to slow down right before jumping). The horse speed s=is very slow and you constantly have to tell it to speed up.

Remember those games you skipped over as a little girl because only sissy girly girls played them? This is that game, complete with flowers and cute pink saddles. But it’s 2021 and you are a tax paying adult, you get your game filled with horses!

Seriously though? It’s not bad. Keep in mind there horses aren’t that fast, even at a dead gallop. And it’s clear it’s a port, so get ready to shake that mouse like a toddler on a sugar high to whip through your horse keeping chores. Why? Because the entire stable is yours! Other than staff, no one else is around to interact with the horses.

Mediocre port of a fairly boring grind-fest of a mobile title. Note this is sold as “HorseWorld – My Riding Horse” on most mobile platforms, complete with the visual overhaul the developer couldn’t be bothered to provide for the PC release…not that this would have saved it. For those wondering, unlike the mobile versions, this one has no microtransactions.

Horse World still contains “swipe to do this” functions, most of which are functional - you can play the entire game using the keyboard though if you wish. This ships with a large selection of unlockable tack and decorations for each horse, all of which are shared so once you unlock them for one animal they’re available for the rest as well.

My Riding Stables: Life with Horses

This is a silly little game that takes itself far too seriously.

For a game that pretends to be plot-driven it has a total lack of urgency about itself which is actually kind of nice. It gives you a series of instructions to complete ‘when you feel like it’ and turns you loose. It lets you get your feet without pressuring you overmuch… but it’s also not challenging. You learn to feel for how much time your tasks take and plan around them, you learn where everything is so you don’t waste time going back and forth and back again because you forgot to do something in one area earlier. (Eventually. The map’s not very easy to read.)

As an avid equestrian since childhood, I have played several horse games, and this is by far the best one I’ve ever played. One of the most impressive points for me was the riding. It’s not perfect, but the horses look better than in any other horse game I’ve played. Their gaits look realistic and when you turn them while trotting or cantering their heads actually look pretty. Their legs don’t look all wonky and weird. The riding controls are very simple- click the left mouse button to speed up and the right to slow down. You don’t have to make the horse jump yourself, but you do have to set them up right for it by taking them straight at it (most of the time, sometimes they jump at crazy angles) or the will refuse the jump. There are so may aspects of horse care (grooming, bathing, picking hooves, massaging), growing your farm (building a training facility, therapy center, guest house, and breeding center), and riding and competing ( There are 3 races in each area. The areas are the field, forest, and mountains). It is a very involved game with more goals than simply competing and brushing your horse. You earn money by training foals, massaging client’s horses, breeding foals for clients, and booking guests. You can also breed your own foals and sell them. You can buy 3 different types of feed, supplements, a general vaccine, and a myriad of other medications to cure your horse of ailments (you’d only need them if you didn’t keep your horses' health up, and it’s very easy to keep them healthy). You can also buy show coats, boots, saddles, casual clothing, and books (which increase the amount of money you earn for each activity). Your focus it to achieve the next star rating by meeting all of the requirments for each level. It is very addictive and very fun!

So… on the whole, I would say I like this game, a few weird graphic issues that don’t make sense. Once you take the time to learn how to steady your mouse, you can actually use your left and right arrow keys to steer which makes it far easier, but still a bit complicated on the whole.

My biggest problem is: After uninstalling and reinstalling this game… CROSS COUNTRY JUST WON’T WORK! At first it would just completely freeze up on me and I’d have to force my way out of the game in order to shut it down and restart it. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it… well… I was at least able to start the cross country part of it, but it gets so freaking laggy that there’s practically no point as it screws up with the competitions so you’re getting disqualified for your horse refusing too many jumps!

I’m actually really enjoying this game, but that’s coming from someone who is a sucker for crappy horse games. I believe to play this you need to be a horse fan that isn’t too serious about gaming since there’s no story line and it is very simple. I find the controls…interesting, but its not as hard as other reviews have claimed. Only took me about an hour to master.

Pros:

  • Good graphics (considering the type of game it is)

  • Cheap

  • Awesome showjumping courses and jump designs

  • Realistic dressage gaits

EquiMagic - Galashow of Horses

I was going to recommend EquiMagic after about four hours of play, but the further I went into it the less I liked it. The overall idea is neat and probably appealing if you find stuff like Cavalia or the Lipizzaner horses interesting, but what you’ll get is something more akin to the lowrider minigame from GTA: San Andreas - yes that irritating, rage-quit inducing one. You MUST get very good at “steering” your horse via mouse as well as timing key presses to the second if you want to finish this game.

I recently got this game for free from a curator connect offer in my group 100% Achievements Events group. This 3D simulation game with arcade reaction-based action gameplay by b-alive gmbh features a custom avatar that decides to own up to 5 different horses, train and perform in a variety of up to 8 different horse show events, each with a different theme, variety of movements and a musical accompaniment.

The game has a good tutorial system to walk the player through how to keep the stats high for the horse and perform in each show well to score a large number of points needed for achievements, a nice glossary that will demonstrate and describe each special horse movement or each horse breed and the choice of background music played in each show are great by matching the themes featured in each show very well.
