I always have been a firm believer of the idea that horror games reach their full potential as point and click games or visual novels; after all some of my favorite horror games are “Corpse Party” and “Misao”. The reason for this is that visual novels and point & click games have the freedom to add an enormous amount of depth to the story to compensate for their simplistic gameplay.

And so this game that I have mentioned in the title was on on my wishlist for quite some time, for two reasons. Firstly I have never played a retro styled horror game such as " I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" , and it has been on the backburner for too long and secondly Puppet Combo recommended it on twitter.

Children of Silentown: Prologue

Children of Silentown: Prologue

I really enjoyed playing this demo. The fact that it runs on my laptop is a MASSIVE plus and the storyline has so much potential. Definitely a big fan of the cat’s personality and the integration of music into the core of the game. I don’t often play horror games but I love watching the gameplay. For once, I actually want to play a horror game (ie. this one) and that is a big deal. I think there are a couple of spelling and grammar issues that I noticed pop up here and there, but they could be intentional. I can’t remember them right now, but it is something the developers are likely to fix before releasing the game. The graphic style is adorable and eerie simultaneously, but the quality is crisp and motion is smooth. I actually found it quite relaxing despite the foreboding that’s lurking throughout the storyline. I had not realised this was just a demo and I was heartbroken when I found out because I wanted to play more immediately. I was surprised at how interactive the game turned out to be and it’s definitely perfect for people who like puzzles. So even more positives. The only major issue I had was that the trailer was laggy the whole way through, but that may just have been poor internet connection on my end. But overall, I am so excited for this game and I cannot wait to play the rest of it. ((Side-note: Thank you so much for creating something super fantastic that actually works with the specs I have!))

Children of Silentown: Prologue is a 30 minute long introduction to the full game which release is still to be announced.

Game’s premise:

**_You play as a little girl who often experiences horrific nightmares and spends time playing with neighborhood kids in the backyard, which sums up pretty well the image we get right away from this game’s story - cozy, peaceful, laid back, heartwarming… yet somehow really unsettling.

Living together with your parents, spending days helping doing house chores while your kitty misbehaves a bit and singing with your mom is not all you get to experience on daily basis. In fact, there are strict rules coming to heading outside from the house due to some mysterious disappearances of children taken place quite frequently. You can’t leave the backyard and you have to respect the curfew._**

Midnight Scenes: The Highway (Special Edition)

This game is rather a short game, which is fitting for the price. The games horror elements are rather mild when compared to other horror games I’ve seen which is good if this is your first time or if you’re just getting used to playing horror games.

This game is also good to play for cheap in a short amount of time.

Also, if you are not used to playing point & click games, keep in mind while playing to be very observant of clickables and drag items in your inventory over each other to combine them.

The game is put together really well when it comes to art and atmosphere, that being said, it’s $3 for a 15-minute inconclusive story, so it’s more of a donation than anything else. I had a little ‘deja vu’ playing it, the pixel art in the game is really good, and there are only so many people that are that good, turns out it’s the “artist on games like Thimbleweed Park and Photographs” - I thought the godly skills looked familiar. The ‘Special Edition’ comes with the artbook and soundtrack which is located in the game’s folder. I have to say that the ending didn’t impact me in any way, probably because the story just didn’t have enough time and build up. I wish the developer would have expanded upon the original game, maybe a few secrets or an alternate ending if the game was replayed. Obviously, the developer is very skilled in multiple ways, but as far as this little game goes, not a lot for me to evaluate beyond seeing that it had the potential to be an interesting story.

Apocalipsis

Apocalipsis

The title and the beginning of the story already make the truly apocalyptic mood of this masterpiece clear: Apocalipsis is a point-and-click game that lets you slip into the role of Harry, who truly regards the death of his beloved Zula as the end of his world and who, on his journey, literally goes to the end of the world in order to perhaps bring her back to life through a magical ritual.

As in the Book of Revelation, however, the hoped-for resurrection of the dead might only happen at the end of the story. Before that, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (tyranny, war, hunger and illness/death) are attacking mankind: Harry wanders, depressed and sickly coughing, through scary landscapes, where he encounters the scourges of medieval mankind: cruel torture, devastating war, emaciating hunger and merciless illness/death. Death dances its macabre dance in almost all of the pictures: either there are already many bodies or skeletons in the picture, or the grim reaper can hope for a rich harvest in view of the condition of the living creatures or the actions of the people involved. Especially in the first half of the game one often encounters monsters that seem to come directly from the hell of Dante’s “Divine Comedy”. Can Harry save his beloved by dark magic?

Apocalipsis:

Sitting together on the top of a hill like two love birds, Harry and Zula were enjoying the beauty of the night when suddenly a falling star illuminated the sky on its way down to Earth. Zula stood up, mesmerized by this incredible spectacle, and decided to share with Harry an old legend she had heard. It says that only a woman can follow and find where the falling star has landed, and when she reaches it, she will be granted eternal love. As she walks down the hill by herself, it will be the last time Harry sees her safe and sound. This is how Harry’s world falls apart, and he’ll do anything to have her back!

## Bad Dream: Coma

Great surreal atmosphere with three main paths (good, neutral, bad) providing replayability. Each path has several interlocking sub-paths that change event details and required actions. These variances provide fodder for completionists to experience all the oddball side stuff you'd otherwise miss, and to pit your brain against the devs to conquer some of the more elusive hidden achievements. While I liked all three main paths, I found the bad ending path to be the most entertaining because many of the experiences you have are more macabre and gory. You may think twice if you plan to use live bait on your next fishing trip….

TL;DR - good as a single playthrough, horrible for completionists.

I was drawn to Bad Dream: Coma due to it's lovely hand-drawn art style and restricted color palette. I quite enjoy the Point & Click genre so I've played my fair share of them, especially those of the horror variety. With such experience, I found there to be two large flaws with the game that I haven't found with its peers:

1\. At times there is a lot of unintuitive gameplay. Many items are very small or in the background, requiring a lot of pixel hunting. Some parts of the game require you to simply check out everything available to you before more items required for progress are then unlocked. So instead of collecting all items to form a recipe or unlock a door (even though they're visible, they're not able to be interacted with), you have to get them one by one as getting each individual piece unlocks the next. This causes a lot of backtracking and carpal tunnel. It was more frustrating on subsequent playthroughs because although you as the player knew the answer to most puzzles and items required for progress, because your character hadn't passed invisible checkpoints, you couldn't grab what you needed.

## I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

### Captivating Point and Click Adventure

I enjoyed playing through this game twice, I'd say that if you're interested, you should pick it up.

It's a story-based game inspired by the book of the same name by Harlan Ellison (who voices the character of AM in game).

–-{Graphics}---

☐ You forget what reality is

☐ Beautiful

☐ Good

☑ Decent

☐ Bad

☐ Don‘t look too long at it

☐ Paint.exe

Good, but this game was developed in the '90s, so you can imagine that the graphics will reflect that era. The graphics are not bad at all. I'd say that they still hold up somewhat and the graphics don't take away from the game.

Make no mistake about _I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream_….it is NOT a horror game, at least not in the typical sense. It's not trying to make you jump in your seat and scream in shocked terror. It has no interest in what many would call "cheap thrills". Instead, what this game wants to do is provoke your thought-process. It is a very cerebral game, with dark undertones that force you to think about the dark side of humanity, and whether or not there is redemption for our fatal flaws. It isn't afraid to present you with disturbing topics such as suicide, rape, even genocide, and make you deal with them. Although there is a tint of light-heartedness, 99% percent of the game is drenched in an atmosphere of hopelessness as you scramble to make amends for the characters' pasts in an attempt to thwart the diabolical supercomputer, AM.

![Night in Riverager](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1500380/header.jpg "")

## Night in Riverager

The developer mentions that there are some mild fantasy violence and also includes topics such as murder and torture; there is none of that in the game.

It's also rather short, about 10-12 minutes where you talk to your mom and then you leave to fetch her some medicine since she has some sort of illness. When you leave your home, you venture northward to access a bridge to go to your uncle's home.

You don't make it. It ends, to me, abruptly. I don't mind it being short, but I would like to have a bit more closure. At least let me get the medicine…

### DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions review

Night in Riverager is a game developed by Two Star Games and published by V Publishing

The game offers some nice graphics and a really beautiful aesthetic, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless

Night in Riverager overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is a really good horror game to play in short bursts!

The very idea of this game is jump scare though graphics, sound and sudden pop of images during after after you solve the puzzle for each level.

Very simple and very baisc. This game did just that. The graphics are very nicely done and sound effect is also excellant.(especially enjoy the wind howling).

The puzzles are all pretty simple. I kinda lost count of the levels but there are less then 30 for sure when you reach the end of this game. Most of the puzzle are really easy and you can click the bottom part of each puzzle to exit it and reset the puzzle.
