Fantastic game! the music, atmosphere, writing, and art were all beautiful. It was a lovely wistful experience. I read out loud while playing. It felt good. Really captured me. I recommend it.

Great atmosphere overall, excellent art and solid sound design, but the standout is the writing. Confident and direct, sometimes crude, but elegant and intimate. If the game were any longer the writing style would wear out its welcome, but since it’s (intentionally) short it doesn’t overstay its welcome and invites you to read it more than once to enjoy piecing it together (and also, you know, enjoy the writing).

In short: I’ve paid many times the price of this game for books that weren’t a fifth of its quality. Recommended.

“You MUST'“Right Click' to use a Key”

Honestly, I liked it. Its super super short, but I really appreciated the environment, great use of transitions, both sound and light. I mean its a solid little indie experience, kinda like you would find on itchio. The ‘LoF’ inspiration is very obvious but it doesnt hurt this little gem, it still manages to feel like a fresh story with some fun voice acting.

My only real complaints, is the at no time, does the game tell you, you must “Right Click” to use a key. Honestly, had it not been for another reviewer, it may have taken me even longer to finish. The notes shade of yellow will some times blend with the light and many many times I trouble clicking on things, due to the reticle being the same white color as the pocket SUN that this guy uses as a flashlight.

A good game for the price and better than many games out there that are way more expensive, so give it a go. You can see that Layers of Fear was the inspiration for this game. The few problems I noticed was the torch seemed to be over bright at the wrong time, trying to read notes or look at photos or other stuff and the torch bleached out all the details, you had to point the torch away a little to read notes or press E. It would have been much better if we had clearer instructions as most of us had to use trial and error to open doors etc. Also the story behind the action was at best very weak but I appreciated the effort. Well worth supporting the developer.

Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars

Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars

So far I have read the equivalent of a 300 page book and I’m only an hour in. I don’t mind that there aren’t any voice actors. What bothers me is that every place our hero goes, he “finds” a stack of books and instead of going about his business, decides to pick each one up and read from it. I understand there’s a theme to the books, but why would you kick off a game with this much reading? Our hero goes into the library where there are about 20 shelves filled with books. I’m not exaggerating when I say that he picks a book from each one of the shelves and reads about 3-5 paragraphs from each book. Then he goes around and reads books on stands too. I love to read but today I decided to play a game instead of reading a book. Unfortunately, the game disagreed with me and made me read a book anyway.

Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars is a beautifully great haunting Lovecraftian game; okay let’s talk about the story.

It’s a cold wintery day as Michael Kearney is on a train with his wife Lily and their daughter Gabrielle as they head to their new life in the little town of Haven, where they can put all their troubles behind them and start anew.

But Michael has been having strange dreams about dark waters and an unknown ancient evil resting beneath the cold waves, what could it mean? Is it just anxiety or is it something else. Whatever it is if Michael is not careful it could destroy his whole world.

Bloody Service

Bloody Service

First of all i want to thank CASE for giving me a free key for their game.

Bloody Service is a visual novel inspired by horror movies. But it’s a bit different, because not only different choices mean different endings, but also different inventory management can give unexpected reactions and dialogues, giving the sensation of living the experience deeply. The main character is a guy working for a catering service and now he’s been called for a job in the exclusive Hilltop Tennis Club, where nothing is like it seems, and where there’s the shadow of two twin conjoined brothers, Arthur and Cole. The game is short but it’s all very well condensed and there are a bunch of gory and violent scenes which are pretty shocking.

Bloody Service (BS) is CASE’s first of hopefully many 80s throwback horror projects. The Argentina-based studio has been in the biz for ages but as it turns out, has been holding out on us! BIG TIME!! What lulled me into the bloodlust was firstly its brand; a slasher-FMV-VN title and right then and there, I knew I had to join in on the fun!! Ironically, I’ve never played any games with full on senseless, evading a killer type (guess the closest is Until Dawn) but I watched like hundreds of those, so it’s long overdue :P

Monsters of Little Haven

insanly catching and tough story especially the end in which

! baloo gets sliced up and it changes to the text panel were kenneth holds the corpse saying we beat the monster, that one hit really hard

it’s by far one of the best games i ever played, for everyone wondering, there isn’t any real gameplay it’s basically just a visual novel were you click from textpanel to textpanel

leisure playtime is around 1h, about ~5h to complete all endings

just noticed now that it’s free to play, so absolutly worth the time

Branching, fully voiced visual novel about a pair of kids and their troubled by monsters family.

Explores its somber, delicate themes in a smart and gentle way. To piece the plot together you’ll have to check out all the branches of the story, which took me around 3 hours and was entirely worth it.

Very solid writing, background music does a good job of building atmosphere.

Each ending has a unique music theme, and those songs are absolutely haunting.

If I really had to nitpick, English narrator’s delivery occasionally feels a bit off (he puts a lot of passion into “Thunder rumbled!” line though). Russian VO, on the other hand, is very good.

One of the funniest games ive played in ages. I havent been laughing this much since … i dont even know anymore. Its a wonderful game and definitely worth its price. Oh and since the credits encouraged me to give the creators of the game some feedback: ITS AWESOME, YOU DID A SPLENDID JOB GUYS AND I HOPE THERE WILL BE MORE OF THAT. No but seriously, im willing to spend all my hard earned money on games like this. As uve stated in the credits jokes are getting a worse image day by day and so i love to see guys like you who dont hesitate do be a little bit more daring than most of the other devs out there. Seriously, the price is fair and square for what we get, its a great game and im looking forward to see more of you :)!

Having played Randumb Studios, this one on it’s surface seemed much different as most of the others are horror themed. Fun little game - it’s brief but definitely worth the price and you will get some laughs out of it if you aren’t too dead inside.

I also suspect the game itself is a piece of a larger puzzle that I have yet to figure out but has me intrigued to no end. Recommend this and the other Randumb Studios games!

PROS

Decently Priced

Challenging, but fun!

Accurately depicts the current state of the Pandemic

Art + Sounds are nice, but a tad repetitive

CONS

Short Game

When you die, you have to wait 5 seconds to reply. Which isn’t bad, but it drives me crazy since you can’t skip the wait

I get randomly stuck on objects sometimes, not that big of a deal though

No saving, so you can’t come back where you left off if you quit

Overall, its worth playing!

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series

Has and will always be the best series of my life. I marathon this series once a month to show my love and support for it and I do not regret my decisions. This series will continue to get hours from me. Good job Telltale and Skybound!

I watched pewdiepie play the whole series up until season 4ep1 when it originally came out and it stuck with me ever since and Im annoyed that I played the game this late, With that being said.

No game has ever made me actually care for the charcters like this game has, even though season 3 is kinda bad compared to the other seasons and the dlc’s are ok this game is genuinly life changing. I will forever be grateful towards Telltale for this masterpiece of a series and an even bigger thanks to the still not bitten team for helping Telltale finish the series. I cannot recommend any other game more. I feel a great sadness for having to say goodbye to the people in the game and all of the others who died along the way.

The Spectre Files: Deathstalker

I agree that it IS great to have this game available on Steam. I was really hoping that there would be an option to have controls based on button pushes just like the arcade version. I realize that not everyone would want this, but for us arcade nerds the mouse just isn’t the same. To be able to play this on our arcade cabinets would be amazing! I reached out to galloping ghost productions but didn’t heard back from them.

MUST OWN for b-movie horror and full motion video game fans. I cannot understate how important this game is to retro gamers and fans of low budget cheesy movies. Deathstalker is a time capsule of the 1980s, now unlocked for us. This game will take you back to the early pioneering days of PC adventure gaming. So glad Dok Mack brought this to steam, now I can finally play through all the paths and endings! Its like a Choose Your Own Adventure book put to film!!!

Venge

Venge

I played it for 11 hours now and here is what I think, as always in stats and some words:

WORDS

Yeah… Venge. A creative game by a single developer with some help. You can find bugs from time to time, but it doesn’t kill the experience. Otherwise, it’s a wonderful game with a great story and awesome delivery. It gets frustrating from time to time because consistency is only a thing every now and then, which prevents players from being in the flow. When it comes to awesome per second, it dies down from time to time, but when it delivers, it does. I didn’t finish it yet, but I plan I keep enjoying it and I hope so do you.

I wanted to give this game a review after playing through the entire first act.

What started as a game that seemed like it was going to be a bit silly ended up getting me really good with scares that I didn’t expect and gameplay that was extremely fun. This is definitely one of those games where you need to play it for yourself if you want to really see how it is but let me point out a few things that worked really well, and a few that didn’t.

First off, the game definitely has a bit of a silly take to horror but don’t let that dissuade you from playing it. The humor really sets the scares up to be more intense as it gets you to let your guard down a bit. Most of the scares that I yelled out loud were situations where I thought I was completely safe and I had outsmarted the AI and the game…. and it turns out the game was a step ahead of me. I’M LOOKING AT YOU, DOOR CLOSING AFTER A CHASE SCENE. That got me REAL GOOD.
