Lamplighter

Lamplighter

It’s 1807 and you are a lamplighter, responsible for keeping the street lights of London lit.

Lamplighter is a story-driven puzzle game, set amidst the magical early 1800s when gas street lamps began to turn night into day and provoke people’s imaginations, hopes, and fears.

Key Features:

  • Unique puzzle mechanic involves creating regions of light and darkness on a grid, where same-colored regions cannot touch. Solve logic puzzles to keep the streets of London lit.

  • Interact with characters along your lamplighting route. As the wielder of a strange and new technology, you have the power to affect people’s opinions.

  • Make choices that affect the story’s outcome: Will London accept progress or will fear prevail? You’ll decide through your dialogue choices and puzzle-solving skills.

War Mines: WW2

War Mines: WW2

Looks fantastic and is entertaining at the same price as a cup of coffee. However, soon it just became a frustrating exercise in random luck when first released. Shame as potential for a top notch game was all here. The Devs are responsive though and after some tweaks it is much more balanced and less of a lottery which it was when first released. Great idea and improving execution in the actual gameplay which initially the pretty graphics couldn’t disguise. Now it’s a solid game and a brilliant take on an old concept. Still could do with some improvement but at this price a solid 10!

War Mines: WW2 is at the same time a very simple game and a visual delight!

This is the first time that I really understood how to play minesweeper and actually liked it, after ignoring the classic version of the game for my entire life.

And this interest is certainly due to the historical second war context that the game presents us through beautiful art, especially for this price range.

The scenario mode is quite fun, even with AI opponents. The trade mechanics is quite simple. But when you’re combining it with event cards from the scenario mode, it is becoming interesting.

Escape From Ruby Castle

Escape From Ruby Castle

My initial review of the game was negative due to some difficult controls, however the dev followed up and made adjustments to the games to make it a more playable experience. This in itself is a great reason to give the game a go - a receptive and open developer who clearly wants others to share in their creation.

Escape from Ruby Castle is a large set-piece escape-room style game with several puzzles dispersed across a bunch of rooms, with a hedge maze bang in the middle.

Die-hard escapists will need to adjust their expectations going into this - it is very much about exploring, and the puzzles (so far) are largely left to you to solve. The interface and controls are different to what you might expect, with ‘tool tips’ appearing in the bottom-right box. I’ll update this review as and when I finish the game.

Key Features:

Random Game with optional deck building

Campaign Mode containing 24 missions

Gameplay:

The world is divided into human and animal populations. Your goal is to keep each population within specific boundaries.

A game is played over various rounds. Each round a threat card is played by AI which changes the population of humans and animals in the world. The player receives 1-4 cards for that round to negate the effects of the threat card. Although the threat card only affects populations when the round ends, player cards may affect populations that round and up to the next two rounds. Plan and play cards carefully. After the last round ends all remaining population modifiers are played out. Keep an eye out for that! To make matters even more interesting, the boundaries for each population may change during the game! And there is a round timer! You’ll need quick hands and a quick mind to succeed!

The Holy City

The Holy City

This is an amazing tool for anyone curious to learn more about Jerusalem and the many religions that coexist in this fantastic place. Very well executed. I have to say it’s very unusual for me to review projects. This because very few actually wow me to the point of actually wanting to share it with others…. This is an amazing experience that allows you to feel like you can touch the Holy Sepulcher and place a note on the Western Wall. Just fantastic. I know this is a virtual visit- but the fact the places were scanned from real life really makes me appreciate the accuracy and be able to enjoy looking at each location at my own pace. Throughout this journey I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful realistic-looking recreation of many Jerusalem temples that allowed me to freely look around and spend a lot of time inspecting painting and inscriptions on the walls. When it switched from the interactive gamefied version to the 360 video version was totally amazing to recognize the precise location where the camera was placed and enjoy seeing it filled with real people. I hope to see more soon.

As a person of faith, I enjoyed this very short game. It is only 20-30 minutes long, so buy on sale. I took an hour because I had to play it twice as my first play through didn’t activate an ending. There are 2 endings to this game, so choose well!

You play as an archaeologist supported by an assistant back at base who can see everything you are seeing. It begins with you in a temple with side rooms representing the great religions and spiritual philosophies of the human race…..Islam, Judaism, Catholicism/Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism.

It’s a short game mechanically revolves around solving a few puzzles. The concept is good and it’s not overbearing on it’s core message. It’s visually pleasing to say nothing of its fantastic use of it’s various great sound tracks.
