Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront

Lots to like about this game - single player (multiple modes), multiplayer (coop and pvp), AI is challenging in SP mode. The dynamic campaigns have great replayability. Graphics and sound are excellent. Realism is pretty good - still plenty of compromises for gameplay reasons, but it is immersive and intense nonetheless.

As far as downsides, the learning curve is pretty steep and some actions aren’t explained very well. Controls can be challenging [do I left-click or right-click to do that? Hey, I said to MOVE there, not drop a mortar barrage on your covering infantry!]. Some additions to the unit information page would be nice to have.

Fantastic game with so much attention to detail. Physics are amazing and still getting constant maintenance and content updates. After Assault squad Cold war I was worries that this would not live up to Assault Squad 1 & 2 but it does. Its great

Attack at Dawn: North Africa

Attack at Dawn: North Africa

Attack at Dawn: North Africa is a strategy game set in WW2 North African theatre. In the game you take command of battalions, brigades, divisions and air wings. The game begins with the German troops probing into the Libyan region of Cyrenaica, and finishes either with the total defeat of German-Italian Panzer Armee, or with the British loss of Egypt and their retreat across the Suez Canal.

FAST AND INTENSIVE GAMEPLAY

The game can be played in a Real-Time, or Turn-Based (WeGo) mode. That reflects the speed and chaos of the desert mobile warfare. Combine this with the fog of war, and the experience of being in command vehicle of a Panzer Corps comes to life. The game will immerse you in one of the most intensive and nerve-wrecking experiences of the Second World War.

POLISHED INTERFACE

Game map and the units have been designed to be uncluttered, informative and easy to understand. You can choose how will your units look like: as top-view models or unit counters. With the ability to zoom out and see the entire battlefield with a glance, you will have the best possible situational awareness.

HISTORICAL

The game features campaigns and scenarios - both historical and hypothetical. They have been designed after an in-depth research of the historical orders of battle and battle histories. Special attention was given to the composition of the armies, combat values of individual units and overall authenticity of each scenario. Check out our series of maps and historical articles that were created based on our research: https://www.attackatdawn.com/news/categories/blog

LARGE MAP

The game features a large map, covering a distance of almost 2000 kilometres and you can use the Scenario Editor provided within the game to create your own scenarios anywhere on this large battleground. Starting at the bay of Sirte in Libya and spreading to Suez Canal in Egypt, the terrain varies between sea, desert, mountains, wadis, ports… There is one long asphalt road “Via Balbia” spanning the whole length of the map, and a handful of well-known desert tracks leading towards the deep Sahara.

English/French

My feeling about the game is mostly negative but I give it a good review anyway because, you know, you got to support your local businesses and also there’s a free demo, so you can’t really accuse the product to be a rip off.

Imperiums: Greek Wars

Imperiums: Greek Wars

So, I have been playing this game for about near 40 hours at the time of this review.

Imperiums, focus’ on the Greek Wars time era. And the developers do a very good job in portraying accurate history, in my opinion. The game keeps trying to ‘curb’ you back toward history. However; you can fight against that, and go your own way. However it requires more effort or ‘elbow grease’ to get there. Basically, to ‘go against’ history; the game feels harder! Usually. Usually when trying to go against history. I really like this aspect of the game.

As a strategy game Imperiums is one of a kind. Designed from scratched with pen and paper by a passionate developer and now released as the second entry in a hopefully long lasting series of strategy games.

Over the years the game is shaped and finetuned by the help of a small, but very dedicated playerbase who can discuss with the developer in forums on Steam and Discord.

Hundreds of players already mentioned their complains and wishes for the game and the developer keeps a list with urgent must have features and nice to have features for the future.

A change in names so as not to offend people which I personally find absolutely pathetic. For example, changing plantation to estate, colonial age to commerce age and changing mission units from native indians to ‘‘oppressive colonialist’’ units. The game is literally set in the colonial age. I wont be buying anymore age of empires products because they clearly have an agenda to keep history fanatics like myself away from their games

The game itself is great, it plays almost identically to CC. I loved CC and got this the moment I got my new computer that could actually run it (and run it really well, I’ve played plenty of more demanding games with no problems). The gameplay itself is actually really good, using good unit comp to obliterate your enemy never gets old and being able to outboom is always fun. However, with DE I’ve had so many frustrations that I didn’t nearly have with CC.

The problem is that it arguably has more issues, both performance and in balancing. I have had significantly more disconnects, out of syncs and random resigns here than in CC. I have had posts about it on the official forums, people say they are looking into it and nothing. I reported back in June that you can’t use shift commands properly on hunts when you’re using more than 8 vills and it still hasn’t been fixed. And now that the Mexico civ is here there is plenty of broken bullshit to go around. Who thought that a 7.5 min fast industrial is balanced? Like really, when most civs can only do a 6-6.5 min fast fortress? The new civs are so overloaded with mechanics and features, meanwhile old civs like Russia and the Aztecs are still boring to play, with the Inca doing everything the Aztecs do but better. Meaning, apart from meme strats (like invis coyote runners) there’s no reason to play Aztecs when Incas are flat out better. Not only that, but they got rid of key things from CC, such as a working ranked system to let you know who was and wasn’t good (Stars + chevrons don’t count) as well as a lag indicator in the pre game lobby.

Looks like a nice easy to learn game. Thought it might be a smoother version of those ‘Impressions’ games. But it’s not. !!

The tutorial is impossible. You need to prevent disease spread with an apothecary……..But it’s missing !!…So all your buildings collapse every minute. You rebuild them and they collapse again… Totally ridiculous.

A HUGE thumbs down from me. Waste of money.

If it gets fixed i may review again. For now….Avoid at all costs.

Field of Glory II

Field of Glory II

If the Panzer General of old was considered a Beer & Pretzel game, then Field of Glory II is surely the craft beer and gourmet pretzel of the wargaming genre. With its simple to comprehend mechanics, yet deep tactical applications, it is a direct translation from table top to the computer (with all the benefits that entails) and a love letter to the history of ancient warfare as well. Before you shake your head, let me tell you, it’s true.

Field of Glory II is a turn based (IGOUGO) system, which allows for a leisurely, thoughtful pace, while making far reaching tactical decisions, hopefully three steps ahead of your foe. How fast you click has no bearing on your generalship and ability to conduct war. There’s plenty of time to think and plan and execute. It’s a play style that compliments the game mechanics as well as the Early Roman (and DLC) era battles, quite nicely. But don’t let that fool you. There is as much stress and imminent threat in a given round of FoG II as any Real Time game can offer (when your center fragments during the first move of your opponent’s turn you’ll understand). And woe unto you if you think the enemy can’t take advantage of a mistake you make during your turn. He can and he will.

Update 2017.10.14

Just wanted to post again to comment on the AI. The higher level AI does have some issues with specialized battle types. I played the Advanced Guard and Escort Baggage Train types and the AI didn’t seem too interested in fulfilling the objectives, however it still gave me a challenge to win the scenario. I’m not really counting this against the AI; for instance the Advanced Guard scenario is kind of a odd fellow, the object is to keep as many of your units over in the center of the opponent’s side of the map for as many turns as possible. The AI pretty much doesn’t care about that, it just wants to beat you. I’m OK with that.

Hi!

Here is yet another game review after playing this game for a while i truly got into it and i am enjoying it.

This is a pirate game without any ships a rowing boat yes but no ships so if you are looking for a pirate game with ships to sail the high seas and sink ships and steal their plunder then this game is not for you.

This game is based around YOU a pirate on land killing monsters and other fellow pirates you will have various maps to unlock spread over various (ACTS) i am on Act 2 but i think there will be 3 Acts or more to unlock.

Real player with 79.7 hrs in game

I’ve been following this game’s development for some time, and I instantly bought it.

What really surprised me is that just for 4 euros, I expected much less content. Only one act is playable currently, but it contained 6 hours of gameplay to me. So the first big issue of the game, is that it’s too cheap :D

I would say that it’s base is similar to Diablo II, but with interesting twists on the mechanics, and the combat got a good, Doom-like, situation based weapon arsenal, which I enjoyed mastering. In the early stages the builds are flexible as well, but by the end of the game, I started dying, so I had to use most of my toolkit, changing my weapons nearly from enemy to enemy. Which was a good feeling, because I could master my skills for a long time.
