Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders
Recommended, with some reservations
The case for
Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders is a murder mystery game, so the first, most important question should be: is the mystery engaging? And it is, which is why it earns my thumbs up. The plot is intriguing and the pace is generally good all throughout the game. It tells several short stories, with an overarching plot connecting all of them and ending on a satisfying conclusion.
The case against
When compared with other murder mystery games, like the Gabriel Knight, Sherlock Holmes or Laura Bow series, in Detective Di there’s surprisingly little detectiving to do. There’s a clue board that fills up as you uncover relevant information, but you don’t have to actually figure out what clues are relevant or how they connect, as the game does all of this automatically, and once you reach the end of the chapter and the board is full Magistrate Di will make all the connections himself and explain his conclusions to you. All the actual detective work in the game is done automatically.

Kabukicho Story
It’s okay. A melancolic little story told using the RPG medium. There are a a couple game sequences. The whole thing is short, maybe a couple hours at most.

Great game. The atmosphere is really soothing and the story is awesome.
I am just gonna point out a few things here. This game is somewhat held in the 12th century irl. Although this is a fantasy game, modern language is not really that suitable. But overall, great game. I recommend playing it.

Dirty Wars: September 11
Chile, September 11, 1973
The Military Coup of Pinochet’s army overthrows President Salvador Allende’s democratically elected government, marking the beginning of 17 years of horror and genocide. Exile, censorship, torture and the forced disappearance of people who oppose the new regime are performed on a daily basis.
Maximiliano and Abigaíl, a young couple who decide to stay in Chile, join the resistance against the dictatorship, sacrificing everything to enter a life of secrecy in which they must face multiple challenges.
Dirty Wars is a video game that combines stealth mechanics, puzzles and interactive dialogues in a closed and immersive world with defined objectives.
You play as Maximiliano and Abigail, who must overcome difficult objectives in order to opose the regime, in a time where only one side had all the weapons and the use of information and counter-intelligence are much more valuable.
There are no inventory systems or acquired skills, in the resistance the only weapon to survive is your intelligence and your ability to understand the security rules that will keep you going in the fight against the dictatorship, an unequal fight that will take years.
The compartmentalization is the iron law of resistance. No member can know personal information about an other, or anything that the dictatorship can use. Anyone could be captured, tortured and forced to give out information at any time.
In moments of great tension and danger, armed confrontation is not an option. Use the elements of the environment to hide and avoid being heard by the repressive forces.
Dirty Wars is a Chilean video game for the world. Introducing a completely Chilean and Latin American story that shows part of the culture, art, music and aesthetics from this corner of the world.

Svoboda 1945: Liberation
Svoboda 1945: Liberation was created by Charles Games in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It blends fiction and historical accuracy and uses a diverse range of gameplay and storytelling techniques to recount experiences in Svoboda, a village near the Czech-German border during and after WWII.
The game includes historical documents, photographs, video footage and an encyclopedia that ground the stories in reality making the often harrowing accounts all the more emotive. In addition to the various real elements and factual information, the game also uses a mix of fictional aspects such as FMV video clips and conversations, explorable scenes, animated comic strips and mini-games to deliver the narratives.

Svoboda 1945: Liberation is the newest game to come from Czech developers, Charles Games. Following the critical success of Attentat 1942, the developers continue to convey history in innovative and engaging methods. Integrating FMV interviews, minigames, comic-style scenes and an abundance of factual documents to read, the game was fascinating from start to finish.
Pros
-
Varied gameplay and minigames throughout.
-
Immense collection of factual documents to read (optional).

Penny’s Path
This was a great game, a well-written story. Immersive and creative characters with wonderful spins on late 1600s theology and the power of women. The voice acting is top notch. I really enjoyed it. Sister Benedetta is the best!

A modern day woman gets infected with COVID-19, then … gets sent back in time to the late 1600s of “New England” … or rather has a fever dream?
Praises
• Some animations are pretty.
• The hand-drawn art is a little rough, but it’s a refreshing change from how most visual novels are illustrated.
• Good attempts at old English (I think).
• Criticisms of religion, especially of Puritanism.
Complaints
• No Steam overlay, so no screenshots. (I’m too damn tired for ShareX.)

Return of the Phantom
A classic point and click adventure - You play as a detective who’s investigating a deadly accident which seems to be the work of a Phantom of the Opera copycat. Great atmosphere and beautiful visuals

I was reminiscing my childhood while i was playing this. It’s just a simple click-and-point game with retro BGM and graphic. It used to be so hard to beat it and pretty terrifying back then. But, it’s so easy and i enjoyed every part of it now..

Astrologaster
Let us consult the stars.
Astrologaster was one of those games that I almost passed up on. I don’t remember exactly when I first came across Astrologaster, but it didn’t click with me at first. I was just sleepily browsing the upcoming games section around midnight, as you do, and it popped up. Finding the name interesting, I clicked, looked at the screenshots, and thought “hmm, I don’t know”. I saw it a couple more times, but when it got closer to the release date I finally watched the trailer. Why I didn’t watch it before, I can only blame it on being way too tired that night. With the combination of finding the trailer and the real life element behind Astrologaster intriguing, as well as peeking at a gameplay video, I thought “Hey, why not take the chance?”. Spoiler alert, I’m glad that I did.

Belle-de-Nuit
I was hooked from the start. Never have I ever had such a delightful experience reading interactive fiction, and I feel more open to trying similar games in the future. Sebastian, with his heart of gold and noble soul, stole my heart. The writing is so good. My only complaint is that I don’t feel there was enough build-up in Amaryllis' and Lou’s routes, they didn’t draw my attention to start with haha I’m happy I got to share sweet moments with Sebastian. He’s my definition of husband-material ❤
