Operation: VICUS

Operation: VICUS

There is only you, the chosen one who rules over the village. You have to find out what the strange notes are about, where do they come from and what do they want to tell you? Besides, with your actions you will strengthen or weaken your relationship with your inhabitants. Make tough decisions that will haunt you longer than you might think. Expand your village to accommodate more inhabitants and explore new things in the laboratory, be it weapons, buildings and much more. However, you’ll have to stay alert, because you’ll be haunted by insidious beasts that would love to destroy your village. So you must train your troops and lead them into battle!

Build your village

With the help of your mines, the ores extracted from there will be processed by your blacksmith and in combination with the wood of the forester, great things can be built, such as new habitable houses, attractions for the inhabitants or yet barracks and defensive guns. With the help of your laboratory you can improve your buildings and make them more robust or you can have new, better buildings researched, which you can then use in your village!

Satisfaction

If you want to work your way forward, it is of great importance to take care of your villagers. You need to monitor their happiness, either the overall happiness of your village or the happiness of the individual citizens. If the villagers are in a bad mood, you need to get to the bottom of it and, if necessary, fix the problems that cause it using the Satisfaction menu or the information provided by the individual citizens. But if you neglect their feelings, you have to expect deterioration in your production and further problems!

Day management

The daily schedule of the villagers is determined by you alone. You can determine the schedule of each citizen: You can make them work longer hours to boost your production, give them more free time or alternatively let them decide what they want to do. However, you must never forget that your actions affect the mood of each citizen, and their moods add up to determine the satisfaction level of your village. So make sure that the inhabitants have nothing to complain about!

Low Poly Artstyle

Dive into the world of the unique Low Poly Artstyle and experience relaxed atmospheres in the morning or mysterious mood in the evening. The interplay between the cartoon-like animations and the beautiful low poly look creates beautiful moments. The music, reminiscent of No Mans Sky in places, creates a great ambience with its style that always fits the situation.

Combat and defense

Upgrade your town with barracks and guns to defend against the invaders! Upgrade your barracks to get better and stronger troops. Decide which strategy you want to follow, fight with weaker but more troops or less but stronger? And better to finish everything in close combat or to finish the enemy from a distance? Or both? You decide and lead your warriors into battle and decide still in battle which targets your troops should attack and how many of your soldiers should pursue this target!

Story

Find out what the strange notes are all about! Make tough decisions and try to understand what this village is all about!

Castles II: Siege & Conquest

Castles II: Siege & Conquest

Fun game that brings back a lot of great memories! However, right now the game is broken. Whenever I try to “design” a castle, the screen goes black and it locks up. I can’t find anything about how to fix this, so I guess I’m out of luck :-(

The only reason I don’t recommend this game is for this reason.

EDIT: Discovered how to get around the crash. Save a castle or make your own and then load them all out from the saves. Haven’t had a crash since! Changing my recommendation.

This is the first video game I can remember playing as a young kid, it was great to take a trip down nostalgia lane. Castles 2 is a game where you must balance resource accumulation, military advancement, build castles to prevent peasant revolts, please the pope with indulgences, and increase your stake for the title of King of France. I enjoy this game because I grew up with it, Castles 2 is older and does not have a tutorial to take your hand and explain the game, however after a few play throughs the game mechanics and strategy is easy. I do want to warn people that my opinion of this game is biased largely by nostalgia. I do think for its time it is an excellent strategy game but compared to contemporary games in its genre is simplistic and lacks intricacies that strategy game buffs come to expect for exciting gameplay. I recommend this game, but if you are on the fence about it, I would wait for the price to come down, I argue that 10$ for this game is too high. Also hold down the right mouse button to speed up gameplay.

Really cool - suits me down to the ground. I had never played this (or even really heard about it back when it was released) so it was a new experience entirely.

Battles are simple - you give your troops a placement, a formation and advance/hold orders. When battle begins, you have no direct control over your units, in what the manual describes as an accurate depiction of a large-scale battle where commanders could not adequately give orders in the heat of the fray. When setting up your regiments, however, you do have to take into account the terrain your soldiers will be fighting on, and it’s necessary to refer to the included manual on this.

If you like this type of game, it is still fun to play.

Yes 8 hours is not much as yet. However i have played SPARTAN on retail version many hundreds of hours.

LEGION is what I expected it to be, similar to SPARTAN in gameplay, interface, and visuals. I has less depth than SPARTAN, as the latter has a more elaborate diplomacy, more and different types of resources, a trade option and a tech tree.

Buy it on sale though, scenarios are limited and there is no grand campaign feature to conquer the ancient world.

Jewel Match Origins - Palais Imperial Collector’s Edition

Jewel Match Origins - Palais Imperial Collector’s Edition

TLDR: If you like Jewel Match or match three games, especially by these devs, I don’t see how you could not like this one.

I love match three and Jewel Match games. I especially like them by these devs. Just look and see how many of them are in my library. The gameplay they design is always consistently challenging and not frustrating.

Their games are visually pleasing with plenty of extra bells and whistles. Things like power ups, extra tools, wallpapers, and so on. There are also lots of bonus games or items. The sound and visual FX add a lot to my enjoyment too. Finally, the games themselves are huge.

First the Download was empty (the game was not there after downloading) Now you can start the game but it is unplayable. NOTHING works. You cannot setup your mining rig, The Bedroom graphical overview disapears when entering the menu.

I´m aware this is an early access title, but none of other early access games i played (minecraft, automationgame, factorio, oxygen not included) where in this state at any time. Biggest waste of money.

If you like crypto and have ever thought of building a mining rig for yourself, you will love this game. It’s addicting and requires knowledge of bitcoin’s price movement from 2009 to 2016 to complete the game.

You start out with $2500 and a debt of $250 million. You have to pay it off before the end of 2016 or it’s game over.

You start out with a simple rig in a bedroom and eventually make it to the point where you have multiple asic rigs in a warehouse. I still have not been able to complete the game successfully. You have to find the right times to sell and reinvest back into mining equipment to be able to pay the loan off in time.

Feudal Baron: King’s Land

Feudal Baron: King’s Land

The king has granted you the right to oversee a medieval city and the surrounding lands. This is not only a great privilege, but also a demanding task. You begin with only a handful of citizens, a modest settlement, and your task will be to gather the resources necessary to grow your city and design its layout wisely, and ensure that your subjects are satisfied with your rule.

Gold is a resource that makes progress possible. Take advantage of your vassals and create a profitable tax system, because not only do you need it to develop your city, but you also must satisfy the needs of the royal treasury, after all, your king is your liege. Use various buildings to utilise collected materials, craft tools, weapons and armour and sell them to the merchants.

Defending the land against the enemies of the realm is also one of your tasks. Prepare the city for the attacks of foreign invaders, collect goods to survive the siege and garrison the fortifications. If the defences fail, your settlement can be sacked, citizens killed and buildings burned down.

Medieval times are not easy for the rulers, you will face all sorts of calamities like fires, plague outbreaks or rebellions of discontented citizens.

Grand Ages: Rome

Grand Ages: Rome

I started playing this game again recently, and discovered how fun the Campaigns are to play. Previously I had only used the Free Build mode.

The Good

Campaign System

The campaign is simple. It has a simple reward system which gives you money and talents at the end of each task, which you can then use to buy estates or upgrade your city building skills, giving you resource advantges before you move on to the next task. Quite a simple mechanic, but one which adds just enough interest to make the game long lasting fun, and which fits in well with the overall gamepaly.

Yeah i know hipsters loathe anything they find inferior being praised, but once again we should just do it anyway and enjoy their sweet succulent “not rage but really is rage they just don’t want to come out and admit because they wanna be the cool kids but not be a cool kid because it’s mainstream"should be enjoyed and feasted upon, and believe me that quote on quote CAN and SHOULD be longer but hipsters are to be mocked, not mentioned.

Now that we got that out of the way, lets continue. I find grand ages: rome highly underrated, to those who bought it and regret it, give it a chance, it’s a game you gotta break the mold with first to properly enjoy before passing judgement (and believe me, i understand not everyone has to like the same game, and it’s okay if you just simply dislike grand ages: rome, to each their own after all.)

Ruin or Victory

Ruin or Victory

Ruin or Victory is a modern take on the classic RTS genre with added detail, continuity, and strategic depth while remaining accessible and well-paced.

Game modes at release

  • A free-build mode with no opponent and optional tutorial hints. A complete user manual will be accessible in game while paused.

  • A scenario mode against an AI opponent that starts with a base and launches increasingly challenging attacks against the player. Both the map and AI preset will be randomized each game, and difficulty, game length, and other settings will be available.

Features at release

  • Random map generation with different terrain, resources, and starting positions each game. Create your own custom map configuration files to control most parameters of map generation.

  • An AI that does not cheat, but uses all the same mechanics that the player does. The AI will make decisions based only on what it has spotted.

  • An extensive, branching technology tree with new items, buildings, and abstract benefits. Some paths are exclusive to others and offer both advantages and disadvantages that define your strategy and playstyle. The tree starts in the stone age and ends at the early medieval age.

  • An organic population growth system that uses real-time food consumption, death due to starvation, and overcrowding factors. You will have to balance your population’s growth, food production, and military size.

  • Skills for your peasants that are gained from their actions and significantly improve their efficiency. Various crafters make high quality items and are a strategic target, while skilled warriors take time to train but are dangerous in battle.

  • Rally system that allows you to set gather points for peasants and warriors separately and summon them as needed. Collect your idle peasants or rally your troops to their posts with any number of points that you place.

  • Domesticated animals that serve as more efficient farm and transport workers and enable the use of cavalry, but require food and training. Animals can be captured when their previous owners abandon them.

  • Continuity of resources and items presents a new strategy of logistics. All resources gathered and items made are physically present in the game world.

  • Resources must be moved to buildings for construction, can be taken out of the building by disassembling, and are lost when the building burns. Workshops that make items must have resources delivered, and the items must be moved and stored in armories.

  • Buildings and other constructs, such as siege equipment, require humans to operate, and can be captured if abandoned. Buildings captured from the enemy can be looted, burned, or used like your own buildings.

  • Warriors are equipped with custom sets of equipment that you design. Create armored archers or light spearmen to fend of cavalry. Every piece of a warrior’s equipment will impact their speed and combat abilities. Carried items and resources are dropped on death, allowing the victor to loot the battlefield.

All of this detail is scaled to the strategic level. There are no inventory screens or per item management. Stored items and resources, warrior equipment, and item upgrades are managed in any quantity with a few button clicks. Peasants automatically find necessary items and buildings for pickup and drop-off, carrying out their tasks with an individual AI.

Selected humans, animals, and constructs are automatically categorized and sorted, allowing you to select by type, skill, or equipment quickly. An order queuing system allows you to chain orders and display them in the game world.

A clear user interface with customization options, intuitive hotkey navigation, and unlimited map zoom with scalable icons, is presented with original, stylized artwork and font.

Features that will be added after release

  • Multiplayer, including cooperative play in all singleplayer modes, as well as PvP on any random map.

  • A skirmish gamemode in which the AI starts and builds up like the player.

  • Rivers and lakes that divide the map as well as island maps on the open ocean. Gather fish and fight the enemy with warships crewed by your warriors in ranged and boarding engagements.

This list is not exhaustive; support and additional features will continue after release.
