Mystery Case Files: Huntsville™

Mystery Case Files: Huntsville™

MCF was one of those games that my mom was really into when I was a kid and she was really into hidden object games at that time. I had tried playing the games when the franchise was starting up with this game here, Prime Suspects, etc, but never could get past one or two of the cases.

All these years later, I had actually played and beaten a few of the MCF games scattered over the years (including Millionheir exclusively on the Nintendo DS) and with getting a new gaming PC, a powerful beast that runs games like Doom Eternal and Max Payne 3… I decided to pick up a game like Huntsville, which takes barely an ounce of that power.

This game is for hidden object fans who want a serious challenge. What makes it really special is that it’s the very first game in the Mystery Case Files series. You start off as a complete rookie and each time you solve a case, your rank goes up a bit. By the end, you’re a Master Detective, ready to face all the many Mystery Case File games to come. I think Steam has most of them but they’re missing Dire Grove. I do believe it’s on its way though. So…. Huntsville takes place in just one little town. FULL of criminals, apparently. And you get to track each one down. Each case is comprised of multiple hidden object scenes (remember, challenging ones!) and then a jigsaw-like puzzle at the end to identify the culprit. There’s lots of humor to be found. Just as an example - one of the criminals you’re after is named Gil T. Azell. I recommend this game to HOG fans, and for those of you who enjoy any of the other Mystery Case Files, definitely add this to your game collection.

7 Roses - A Darkness Rises

7 Roses - A Darkness Rises

I bought this game because the tittle has the name Rose in it and a heroine called Amy Rose and we girls love seeing us portrayed the way we are smart, strong and fearless like Amy Rose is in this story. She was trusted and given the mission by the village Elder to save her people. It’s a point and click game to solve puzzles. I played the game right away and I found it entertaining and relaxing and didn’t want to stop playing it. I like the music in it and the incredible amount of puzzles which are sometimes simple and other times required more patience. The game and puzzles are fun. There isn’t much of a story line or characters development, but the small animated part at the beginning of the game and drawings are beautiful. I can see the amount of details and effort put into developing this game. I usually only buy games with achievements because they allow me to see my progress as I play and I’m slightly O.C.D. about them, so it drove me crazy that this game doesn’t have any for me to display on my profile xD. I can only imagine what beautiful drawing of Roses the achievements would have if the developers read my review and decide to add them to the game. I know a lot of Steam players feel like me about achievements. I also wish this game had trading cards, beautiful Roses stickers, emoticons, badges and background profiles. The Roses throughout the game are beautifully drawn. The game is reasonably priced. 3

One more hidden object game - click everywhere to find objects, use them at the right spot, solve various puzzles of different kinds. Nice music, quite low 4:3 screen resolution only. Nothing special, but relaxing if you enjoy the genre.

I liked the idea of the little chicken, with a humor, just stay tuned to the details and look for clues, in the classic point-click style.

SEASON OF MYSTERY: The Cherry Blossom Murders

SEASON OF MYSTERY: The Cherry Blossom Murders

Found this game on Steam by “accident”, added it to my wish list and then bought it during the recent Steam summer sale and since im very interested in “all things” japanese and like puzzle/detective games… I thought why not try it out. I did not have any big expectations but I had a good feeling about the game before I bought it and it turned out to be well spent money for me since I didn’t pay much for it and I really enjoyed it.

It’s a casual and relaxing hidden-object/puzzle/detective game where you play as a woman who is investigating her husbands death in 1900th century Japan. The rest you can figure out yourself if you buy the game.

But Irene is convinced that her beloved husband would never do such a thing, so she decides to uncover the culprit of such hideous crime. In her search for truth she visits many different locations - Embassy, police station, docks, Geisha house etc. As she follows little crumbs left by her husband she can rely on help from Kenzo, Richard’s friend, and young detective Fujikawa. great game

It was alright. I did really enjoy the art. Some screens, especially in the extra chapter. Story was alright for these type of games. Some interesting puzzles though we had a minigame or two bug out on us, though they were able to be skipped so no big deal. Was a fun distraction, my friends and I got some laughs. So yeah, it’s fine.

Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily

Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily

Stupid & sloppily done.

This describes the entire game. The story, the puzzles, the HO scenes. And I encountered a few bugs/programming issues too.

Story

The plot was one of the densest, most illogical pieces of amateur fiction I’ve ever come across; and given that I’m already taking into consideration the fact that HOGs usually have some of the worst “stories” ever, this isn’t saying much. Characters behave like morons, the plot isn’t very clear (and because of that, so is the killer’s motive), and the character you control (i.e. the detective investigating the case) acts in the most senseless ways imaginable.

Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily (IHOG)

Access the options via the ‘More’ button on the main menu. Options include separate sliders for Music, Sound and Voice overs, plus Custom Cursor, Full-screen and HD Mode.

There are four difficulties to choose from: Casual, Advanced, Expert and Custom, plus we have a jump-to MAP and a totally useless diary.

Let me say right off the bat to keep an eye out for snowflakes and origami. They’re easy to miss, and - as there is very little backtracking - if you progress too far, you won’t be able to go back for them!

Dark City: Dublin Collector’s Edition

Dark City: Dublin Collector’s Edition

If you enjoy Dark City: Vienna, then you’ll probably enjoy this one too. Graphics and sound are pretty good, story-line keeps you guessing and the HOP’s and mini-games show some variety. However, there is an aspect of the game that can be annoying. Sometimes, when you pick up an item to combine it with another, it will only work when you place it exactly over the area it is meant to connect too. But apart from that, a solid and engaging game.

It is a good game but ended shorter than the other and the who did it was more obvious.
