Bubbleland

Bubbleland

In Bubblelands you will lead a team of cartoon heroes - the brave bean brawler, the fluffy feline defender, and the outlandish onion with oseledets - through a series of tactical turn-based battles on a grid of hexes. Each hero on the team has a different potential use in battle, skill set and development opportunities. The combat rewards smart positioning and using skills appropriate to the situation on the battlefield.

On their way, the heroes may encounter characters who need their help and allies who will join their party and strengthen the team with their special powers. You can meet them later at the party’s camp, where the heroes can also improve their skills and buy upgrades.

Bubbles are what fuels the technology and economy of this land. However, one day the soapy resource ceased to flow from the taps and fountains. In the atmosphere of the apocalypse, three heroes set off on a journey through foreign lands to find out where the life-giving Bubbles have gone.

Tactical Yet Simple Combat

The game is rules-light, you’re not going to find long statblocks and hour-long battles here. You may just hop in for a few fights any time!

Simple Yet Deep Mechanics

Bubbleland is not crunchy, but you still have to think before you act. Cautious positioning of the heroes and planning your actions is crucial!

Deep story… Not Really!

The world and story of Bubbleland is colorful and fun to watch. Find out if fluffy cats, angry cucumbers and onion cossacks fighting each other over bubbles have any deeper meaning!

Spire of Sorcery

A party strategy with its very own style and identity.

The graphics are nice and well designed, and the music is great. Hopefully they add more of it later.

The interface feels like it was designed by a madman that completely ignored everything we know about mainstream gaming interfaces, and just branched it into its own evolutionary path. On the other hand, many games today have an interface that looks nearly identical, and here it’s finally different and fresh.

The spell and combat system is incredibly deep and flexible. You need to adapt your spells to your party, and figure out how to effectively combine them with potions and the environment, and even with other spells and effects. This game greatly rewards experimentation and exploration. There are many insane combinations to discover, and every party requires a different strategy and resource management. A murderhobo group plays very differently from a group that has a pacifist in it.

A game where you control only mages! If you are tired of extremely generic fighters who smell of sweaty socks and too much ale, and you are a cultured scholar who appreciates basking under arcane arts and good books, then this game might be for you :P That was the reason for me to try demo, then game’s uniqueness made me buy it and keep on journey.

Honestly, even the idea of “controlling only mages” is already so exciting and engaging to me. Now I know that this game is mostly strategy and all but there’s an attempt right here so I must interfere… story is not very infused with the game itself, I’d personally expect more passages that would drag me in. Don’t know what the devs are planning on release, but a good background story would be a huge game changer in my opinion. People who like magical powers tend to care about these, no? If there’s such plan (yes this is a big issue of indie developers but) adding just one voice actor who is going to narrate the story would be very pleasant.

King’s Bounty II

King’s Bounty II

I love all King’s Bounties, - I get what I expect from it - a fairy-tale immersion, it lives up to its unique style, combining wits and its “kingsbounty-specific” sence of humor and sense of heroism.

Tactical combat part requires chess-like solutions, devs did definitely put their time into it, it surely is a step forward.

No disturbing bugs nor glitches so far my thorough exploration (well, two times being “stuck in the meshes” no one can avoid (but some games do wisely provide an “UNSTUCK”-hotkey : )), first item in your inventory being unaccessible by mouse, - kbd only, - I can live with this and they’ll surely fix a minor thing like this, - it’s rather too few complanits).

This is my first review, but I felt I have to write this because of my disappointment.

This game would be a decent title, if it were not a sequel to the Kings Bounty franchise. Even as a spin off, but thats not the case. This game is called King’s Bounty 2 but it has so many things missing from the series.

First of all: this game offers ZERO replay value. There are no random armies to fight with. Thats right, every fight will be the same regardless of your playthrough.

There are no random items on the map except the junk which literally have no use other than selling them. No random armies to choose from: you will get the same units from the same vendors every game.

Farabel

Farabel

Farabel is a charming and addictive little turn-based strategy game. The central premise of “turning back time”, while interesting to the plot, does not really change the feeling of working through progressively difficult levels. Everything is balanced to provide a good upward hardness curve. However, unlike something like Memento - where gradually seeing the past makes earlier story make sense - I couldn’t shake the feeling that Farabel was simply a series of interesting scenarios, without any cohesive plot. Although, lowering the main unit’s abilities each turn provides an interesting twist, while working out which specific abilites you can least live without.

I initially got this because I thought the premise was very interesting, and to support a day-1 Linux game.

I am not exactly sure why, but I don’t find the gameplay so entertaining. I was quite bored doing the first missions, and till about the 9th one I didn’t have to really think about it to not lose… I was really surprised how easy it was, but somehow the mission after the big shaman, it all changed.

Some of the text is way too small on my screen so I just didn’t read it… and therefore during my first playthrough I had no idea about the units' passive abilities because I couldn’t read them. When I discovered how good charge was on a video, I got closer to my HDTV to read all these little texts, and it made the last few missions easy as well.

WARTILE

WARTILE

Edit: I’ve won the game and it is pretty fun. The key factor to realize is that the archer is the most important character using the volley card. Once you get used to the game I really like the concept but it was challenging to mentally adjust to the different style of game (cool down vs turn based) coming from the turn based world. Using the slow down feature is essential until you get up to speed. On the higher levels it is absolutely critical to use the slow down feature to dodge tough opponents as them attack.

Tabletop quest for the Sagas

Wartile is a strategy game allowing the player to take command of a Norse warband on a quest to save their land from a mysterious plague. Developed by a very aptly named danish studio PlaywoodProject, the game plays as a miniature wargame. Each character in Wartile is represented by a wooden figurine, battling their way across adorably detailed dioramas. While the game had visibly limited resources to work with, the developers have fully committed what they had towards an idea of tabletop game brought to life. An idea, in my book, they firmly delivered upon.

King’s Bounty: Crossworlds

King’s Bounty: Crossworlds

I recommend this game because I enjoy playing it. If you liked King’s Bounty: The Legend (KBTL) then you will probably like this game. Although, I am having a little difficulty adjusting to some of the changes. There are some changes that I really like, some that I don’t like that much, and some that I am starting to appreciate as the game progresses.

There are a lot of new units to pick from and that can be hard to because you have a lot of choices, but it is nice that you start with 2 reserve slots automatically. Some tweaks have been made to some of the units and I still haven’t experimented with the Adrenaline system that the orc units now use.

Real player with 227.3 hrs in game

I regret playing Armored Princess first before realizing Crossworlds is the same game with tons of extra features.

But other than that this is one of the better King’s Bounty games currently out there. Nice balance in difficulty, good pace in progression, and a rather medium length game.

A few complaints:

Some of the islands you explore are really small and so a full exploration is pretty short. It felt like there could’ve been more, such as a few more enemies to fight.

Goblin shamans can use one of their abilities on an opposing unit despite it saying it can only be used on allies. The ability makes it so that between 2 units you selected, the slave unit takes half of the damage the master would’ve taken(not vice versa, it’s a 1 way thing). Because it’s most likely you won’t be using goblin shaman units in this first place, enemies will take advantage of this and cause you to lose massive amounts of units either way because 1) if you don’t attack the master you take a ton of damage from the master itself. 2) if you damage the master unit, you will take a ton of damage to the slave unit.

King’s Bounty: The Legend

King’s Bounty: The Legend

Heroes of Might and Magic with an enchanted 5d20+5 sense of humor. If you decide to try this out, make sure to plan out how you spend ability runes from level one because runes seem to dry up once you start branching out your talent tree. Rage spirits get experience only from doing damage, which requires meticulous study in tactical micromanagement if you want your rage spirits to rain down mayhem in any semblance of actual destructive power (death really is your friend here). Armies are a non-renewable resource so save the best units for hard fights.

Rating: good (7/10)

Introduction

King’s Bounty: The Legend is the first game of the King’s Bounty series where you take a role of an adventurer that with the right combination of troops and magic is going to save the kingdom from its doom. The game is an RPG with turn-based strategy combat style.

Gameplay & Story: 6/10

The gameplay in KB:The Legend consists of traveling through the world map, getting quests and gathering troops and then fighting enemy forces in a turn-based hex-strategy styled battles. The combat is really similar to Heroes of Might and Magic, however you are not going to build castles or a kingdom here and instead travel through a huge open world. The story is quite simple - you are the treasure hunter for the king and discover after a while a plot against the kingdom by evil forces and you are obviously the only one that can destroy them. The gameplay is however very fun in King’s Bounty series and it is enjoyable to be able to traverse the land almost free (sometimes a quest or a strong army blocks your progress) but since the world is so huge, you mostly have different possible locations where you can go to. There are a lot of different factions that can offer you forces so you have a lot of choice depending on what strategy you enjoy more in battles. The classes offered are also quite distinguishable so it is even fun to play through the game multiple times with different classes and armies.

King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North

King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North

I sometimes feel like the King’s Bounty games were made with me in mind. I will be the first to admit that I am NOT “the brightest bulb on the tree.” But even I can easily win these games (on easy.) And what fun is it to play a game that you can’t win? (Okay. Some people, like “my brother the genius” play on impossible just to see what it is like. And seem to enjoy it. But for the rest of us…?)

I have read some reviews of WOTN that complain about the reuse of certain maps from TL. (King’s Bounty - The Legend. Two games back.) That seems spurious to me. It takes place in the same world, just a few years later in time. And the very few maps that are the same have all been altered by time and the ravages of war.

Real player with 724.9 hrs in game

So! 417 hours is an awful long time to play a game and give it a thumbs down. Why?

TL;DR, the endgame is INSANELY buggy and completely killed my impossible, no loss completionist run.

The good:

The gameplay is classic KB gameplay. I’ve put a ton of time into the series so far, and it never gets old.

Exploration was fun.

The new viking units were neat to play with.

The callbacks to previous KB games were fun.

Many interesting characters to interact with.

The valkyries are pretty neat, and a nice twist from the previous companion systems.
