Hex Commander: Fantasy Heroes

Hex Commander: Fantasy Heroes

First of all some critics claim that this is a pay to win which simply is not true. You’ll get more resources than you need to complete it just by playing it (you really do not need to spend any money on it unless you want to support the devs). This is one of those rare games that really lives up to it’s 5/5 rating.

True value 10-15 £.

Although the size of the battles are mostly small to mini this is a true contender for best game of the decade. I’ve played it back to back, all the campaigns and every scenario, over and over again. It is that good!

Great little game if you like turn based games.

No need to spend any cash either which is a bonus.

You can achieve highest levels on mage and alchemy very quickly just by playing the easy levels.

Major in magic and seige and do the hard levels to raise them to full rank.

Do the levels on extreme and you can have full skills to fight final boss.

And not a penny spent, took me a week to finish the game and very enjoyable it was too.

Now don’t get me wrong, not everyone’s a grinder, so please free to support the effort put into this game by purchasing some gems.

it’s fine for a free game but I feel like I’m just killing time playing this instead of thinking. there are only 4 unique mechanics to this minesweeper game (I don’t include that they’re hexagons instead of squares because the hexagons make the game easier) and none of them function in conjunction with each other. on the other hand, Globesweeper: Hex Puzzler has 7 new unique mechanics (not including when empty tiles sometimes fall away when you clear them) and they are constantly combined to make even more unique mechanics. every puzzle in that felt different whereas every puzzle in Hexceed feels the same.

I’m not far in yet, but it’s easy to tell that this is a very well made puzzle game.

For reference, I’m a huge fan of the Hexcells series which this obviously seems to take a lot of inspiration from. While starting out the tutorial area it seems to lean a lot closer to Minesweeper, it quickly introduces unique rules that bend the standard formula back toward Hexcells while still keeping its own unique identity.

UI is pleasant and - incredibly important in a puzzle game with unique rules like this - everything you need is easy to understand and within easy reach. New rules are also cleverly introduced without a written explanation and (at least across the tutorial area) ramp up gently enough for probably most to keep up with it. Clicking and holding with either mouse button on a completed tile shows you its area of effect, which makes things easy to keep track of as well.

Demise of Nations

This game is very interesting it’s really fun and it reminds me of Age of Empires 2 and Rome Total War. I love how you expand your borders by moving across the map that is so cool. One thing I really don’t like about the game is unit health; I will use RTW as an example. In that game it is pure strategy like using the higher ground or using a pincher type move and so to win a battle instead of how much health your unit has. I have a few suggestions for the developers. 1) There are far to many farms and not enough other resources. In order to get a decent amount of other resources available in the game the whole map is nearly all farms. So my suggestions is to have a capability of making areas into resources like example prospecting a mountain or how dense a forrest is. 2) Put in Trading land and cities. 3) Have a capability of building roads for trade routes to other factions similar to RTW (Basically I will suggest them to play RTW to get some ideas). For trading to other factions have some things on the map like wine, textiles, and other stuff to trade to other factions for gold or for other important resources you need that you can’t obtain in the areas you control. 4) Have factions return if a place revolts if a faction has been defeated and add more factions that would be cool to. 5) Have each faction have a couple of unique buildings and units that other factions can’t get. For example the Celts can have druids and since Gaul is similar barbaric people they can have armored swordsman or something like that.

When I first got this game, I liked it, but thought it was just an ok game. I was wrong, the game is absolutely amazing (unless you hate strategy games).

It is a little difficult to see, but the graphics are pretty good, especially in-game. There are lots of different factors and numbers, such as groundwater, which either you like, or you can ignore and still play the game fine.

I like strategy games however, and I think this is one of the best ones on steam. It is very straight forward if you want it too be, yet there is a lot of content that you could pay attention to if you wanted. I also love one of the developer’s other games.

Shardbound

Shardbound

I’ve been playing Shardbound since late December so the hours of this review do not reflect the playtime I actually have.

Normally I go for goofy ass reviews with bad wordplay like ‘Wow, you just Shardfound the best game ever’ but this game is pretty neat so I’ll throw a proper review it’s way. Shardbound is a tactical CCG, a newcomer to a genre that has exploded in popularity over the past few years, however it’s part of the later generation to tackle the genre, the generation that takes the core card game experience and pushes it to the next level of strategy and tactics, from Gwent and ESO to Faeria and Duelyst.

pros:

+beautiful art style and voice acting

+tactical battlefield adds strategic depth

+plenty of deck Varity

+devs are actively updating this game weekly

+card box sys allows you to pick what you want

+a solid free to play model to increase your collection

+very few bugs despite being early access

+not pay to win

Cons:

-still a lot of placeholder art in game

-balance is still a work in progress

-Overall-

This is the best digital card game I’ve ever played. There is so much depth and strategy incorporated into this game by having a tactical battlefield, playing the card is just step one, next you move your minions and your hero around like chess pieces requiring smart positional decisions to achieve victory; meaning building a good deck can only get you so far. For a game currently in early access its very stable and looks great, but at the moment there is a lot of minions that have placeholder art, but the devs are actively updating art on a weekly basis and recently have announced that this will be getting ramped up in the coming months.

Space Wars: Interstellar Empires

Played this game 70 out of the 80 so hours I have. Not a bad game it’s a bit like eve but without all the years needed and flying mostly around empty space, just battles with that immersive RP feel and global map objectives. Huge emphasis on Team-work and high value ship kills are a very satisfying experience. I’m a pretty big fan of High-risk high reward games, the strategy is a bonus. It’s pretty much the owners passion project he is open to engaging with the community and takes community feedback very seriously. I don’t think he is really looking for any kind of huge profit there is no p2w elements at all.

This game has potential, but likely will never be realized. There’s no more than 15-20 players online at any one time which means even fewer for your faction.

The combat is horrifically slow. Each player gets a 1:30 to make a full turn, which leads to fights with humans taking literally hours.

The game is terribly balanced as well. There’s simply no rock, paper, scissors type counter to some of the ships at certain levels. Even without officer points, It doesn’t matter how well you play your ship even when equal tier and no officer points. There’s no tier balance.

the most unfair game of all times…

actually I like this kind of game concept, and it (could have been) isn’t a successful one.

However;

i. there is no info about the game. there are lots of hidden bonuses, which is not possible to find out. maybe by spending hunderds (!) of hours and figuring it out is possible.

ii. there are a few too much powerful characters (ex: Cook, swordsman) most of the time you face these characters. Or you pay huge amount of money (I mean thousands of money to get a full stack) and buy much more powerful character. and happily there are not many people doing it. So everyone plays with these two characters. So after a while it is frustrating(!)

Hi, i liked this one at the beginning.. but there are no challenges or progress after lvl 20.. You have to pay money or to grind everyday to be able to buy monster. The price for the Monster is increasing at the beginning it is only like 200 gold per Monster per day at lvl 1 and it is like 1200 gold per Monster if you reach lvl 20. You can do a little more money at lvl 20 than at lvl 1 of course but it is certainly not 600% more, its only like 50% more… The game hooks you up at the beginning saying:“hey it’s easy and fun” and after 200 hours of playing it says: “give me your money or you will stand still for a long long time”

I would like to start off with saying I a form of dyslexia from a head back tramua I received in 2004 so excuse the grammer and spelling ,with this being said I want give this game a fair honest review . I am the person when reading reviews I look at how long the player played the game , amount of games as well as how many reviews .

I have been wanting this game for 6 months or more but could not afford the full price . I pay for my games do not get them in exchange for a 30 minute play and possitive review.

I own all the current dlc for this game. In general I would reccomend this game for most strategy players. At first this game came with both sides playable. In the Pacific you could play as the Allies or the Japanese. Then the Devs decided to narrow the focus.

You then got some nice little dlc’s that were under appreciated areas of the war. The early Japanese vs Chinese conflict. This was great, but would have loved to play the Chinese, both Communist and Nationalist vs the Japanese. But due to the Devs choice to give less for the dollar and narrow the focus of the games to only one side. It was sad. But the campaign is lots of fun.

Warbands: Bushido

Warbands: Bushido

Warbands:Bushido isn’t that bad. Indeed, there are very good points such as the graphics and th concept : we don’t have that many minatures games, especially japanese ones. The rules are easy to learn but hard to master. There are numerous options mixing units and cards. I also must disagree with the fact it’s a “pay to win” game because you don’t need real money to buy new units, scenarios or cards. Of course, the possibility to spend a few bucks is offered but it’s not mandatory because you will get ryos (virtual money of the game) to do the same : it will take more time, that’s all…Plus, for every new day you’re connected, you get 100 dust (used to buy Legendary units) and 50 ryos.

Real player with 139.8 hrs in game

Warbands: Bushido is a digital collectable miniatures game, a good one. Not that I’ve played many digital minis games, but bear with me. I’ll throw out the the one low point first, the English isn’t great and can be confusing (though there’s a thread to help them update!). It’s enough to get by on, but some unit descriptions are fairly confusing until you see them in action a couple times.

Where Warbands: Bushido shines is in it’s short, tactical PvP battles and the incremental rewards it dishes out that keep you searching for just one more opponent. There are single-player campaigns but since they don’t help you level up your units or acquire more than a small handful of units, they’re never going to get you into the heart of the game: collecting and maturing a group of Seven Samurai-esque killing machines while planting other people’s would-be heroes in the ground.

Dogs of War Online

Dogs of War Online

Dogs of War Online is a fast paced turn based strategy game heavily influenced by the table top game Confrontation. It puts the player in the role of a mercenary leader, who can have multiple bands of mercenaries at his command. The game is currently in beta and at this stage offers little in the way of single player. There are 3 tutorial missions and training versus bots but then it is into the lobbies to test your skills and mercenaries against other players.

I have never played the table-top game but have spent many hours playing similar games. The mechanics or ‘rules’ of this game are very solid and make for a more realistic and exciting game than any other I have played on computer, the kitchen table or elsewhere.

EDIT May 30/2015: Unfortunately, it seems the population has bottomed out, and the developers have abandoned the game.

Very strategy-rich game, has lots of potential. Units have their own skill/spell tree, different combat interactions like parrying counterattacks dodging riposte, many atrributes and active or passive effects you have to all take into account throughout battle. Lots more classes/units planned as far as I saw on their wiki. Recommend to turn-based/strategy fans. It is not pay-to-win, since you get matched based on your army level - have a stronger army, then you face stronger armies. Don’t have many criticisms, its already pretty complex and its only in closed beta stage.

Tactical Monsters Rumble Arena

Tactical Monsters Rumble Arena

I have been looking for a fun game similar to final fantasy tactics. i have finally found it and ITS FREE. this game allows you to play pve and upgrade your character cards. Each character card is a different monster with different abilities and weaknesses. Such as the archers are good from range but die easily if hit. There are ALWAYS new monsters as you play. There is also pvp which is fun as well. I recommend applying to 10 clans and i got accepted by a clan. Being a member of a clan gives you clan points which u can use for card character upgrades. All you do is donate stuff u dont need once in a while and you get the clan points. Fun game even has an amazing training system that helps you learn as well as adds to your monster collection. Game is Free and Fun. you could spend money if u want but really there is no need to spend any money as I have not paid for a single thing and i have a good set of monsters so if I can do it so can u. I recommend theis fun turn based strategy game that plays like a fast fun streamlined final fantasy where u can play against the computer or other players and have a blast. Give this game a try!

At first glance, this mobile port looks like a shameful rip-off from that popular trash that is Clash Royale, but please don’t run as there is a real tactical gem hidden here !

The trick is that the fights in this game are TURN-BASED and use the classic and proven template of the battles from the acclaimed “Heroes of Might&Magic” series, with units (Monsters) that you level up and who each have different skills and abilities opening a lot of possible strategic choices in building up your monstruous team.
