Bestiary of Sigillum

Bestiary of Sigillum

It’s a decent game, but with two major flaws at the moment.

1. Small community. You could be waiting an opponent for 10-15 minutes to no avail.

2. “Out of sync” bug in Custom mode. I tried to play with my friend two month ago. We managed to play one game out of three without the bug. Sure, there is some fun in playing two different games at once, but only the first time.

Though I doubt that anything can be done with the first problem in the near future, I hope the developers at least fix the second one. So the thumb up is not to the game at its current state, but to the game it might become if devs at least fix Custom mode and add AI mode.

So far pretty fun! Trying to counter your apponent makes the game pretty interesting. However, when my brother and I play against eachother on seperate PCs we sometimes get this problem where we are playing different games kind of. It’s like the game is not tracking our moves and displaying them correctly on the others PC. So, I will see my borthers moves one way that is contrary to how my brother actually moved his characters. Besides that great game!

Hex Commander: Fantasy Heroes

First of all some critics claim that this is a pay to win which simply is not true. You’ll get more resources than you need to complete it just by playing it (you really do not need to spend any money on it unless you want to support the devs). This is one of those rare games that really lives up to it’s 5/5 rating.

True value 10-15 £.

Although the size of the battles are mostly small to mini this is a true contender for best game of the decade. I’ve played it back to back, all the campaigns and every scenario, over and over again. It is that good!

Great little game if you like turn based games.

No need to spend any cash either which is a bonus.

You can achieve highest levels on mage and alchemy very quickly just by playing the easy levels.

Major in magic and seige and do the hard levels to raise them to full rank.

Do the levels on extreme and you can have full skills to fight final boss.

And not a penny spent, took me a week to finish the game and very enjoyable it was too.

Now don’t get me wrong, not everyone’s a grinder, so please free to support the effort put into this game by purchasing some gems.

It Stares Back

It Stares Back

First I just want to get it out of the way that

! for no apparent reason at all the store page us calling it 4x which immediately shaves respect points for the dev doing that. It’s my one real criticism which is a minor thing except that words have meaning. You can’t just call things whatever you want. Then other idiots get misinformed until all Steam or GOG becomes a massive dumpster fire and people start not even realizing just how the fuck to make games anymore with enough misinformation. So, it’s a casual RTS, or RTS-lite. It has nothing whatsoever to do with 4x in the slightest and it bothers me maybe even less than confuses me how the hell a game dev could make that much of a mistake without doing it on purpose

Was introduced to It Stares Back through the Reddit post they made to advertise it, and instantly fell in love with the artstyle of this game, and was enamoured by the lore weaving together the world it’s based in. Cosmic horror, biopunk, and post apocalyptica seamlessly weave together to form the world of the Great Tapestry, a grotesquely beautiful hellscape beset by a ravenous, deafening, void. As the Noble Guide, you are tasked with ripping the souls of long dead soldiers from the earth to fight it back.

Death Crown

Death Crown

This is a simple, yet fast paced, game that takes me back to retro game vibes.

The main thing that pulled me in was the style of cut-scenes.

The graphics, while all 2-D pixelated, are quite enticing.

The artwork is dark medieval, and the color schemes are variable.

You beat levels to earn diamonds, to spend on upgrades.

You can upgrade gold mines, defense towers, or troop barracks.

Gold mines earn gold, towers turret intruders, barracks spawn your army.

You place the three buildings across the grid, strategically, to gain territory.

I was on the edge fist, but this is actually an awesome space & resource centric RTS–the famous Z by the Bitmap Brothers comes to mind–but Death Crown is much more minimalistic.

The in-game graphics are unusual but cool looking, however, at times it’s a difficult to see certain things in the heat of the battle (esp. in the human campaign DLC which features a lot more terrain types).

It takes some time figuring out the minute details of the simple but not really intuitive controls but this is part of the game, I think. I really like the music (which is rare) and the black-and-white line art cut scenes. However, the story is a bit vague, and only shown not told.

FIRST comment I will last for eternity!

Well thoughtful game.

There’s plenty of potential to this, I really hoped some features were unlocked, but I guess they are still under development.

I loved the combos we can do with different characters, my fav so far to use are the Half -Vampire and the Paladin.

The game’s becomes intense when your chars start to have low health and stamina, and the atmosphere the game really nails it.

Loved the art in the game, kinda a mixture of battle brothers and darkest dungeon, but original enough to be distinct.

With around an hour play, i would like to give constructive criticism for the devs.

The genre is popular, im sure there are a lot of people including me who are willing to play Darkest Dungeon type of games out there. But there are a few things that need to be addressed i believe.

I started the game with Ice Mage, so no tutorial. I dont see the reason, why there is tutorial with Warrior and not with another hero? Doesnt make sense.

Thats why at times i felt i had lack of info of what to do. I had to stop my run with Ice mage because my Vampire buddy had died, i spent most of my gold on health potiıns, but stamina potions seem much more important. Because your stamina doesnt regen. This again is a flaw in game design i believe. There should be another way to regen your stamina besides spending money for it. (Maybe there is but i just got stuck and couldnt play further due to this. And it was the easy mode.)

I always come back to this game when I have time on my hands, and I’m itching for a good dice/card game. Which this game has both! I love that no matter wwhich character you use, there is always a chance to win. dlc characters are less ‘pay to win’ and more of exploring different playstyles over multiple games. there are some very pretty dice that’re so satisfying to hear/use in game.

I recommend the game but I have to put a negative review because the multiplayer doesn’t allow users to reconnect once we get disconnected for a few seconds. Therefore if we have connection issues for a few seconds. we loose our games, can’t move the character. Such a shame.

Fantasy General II

Fantasy General II

The game is very challenging with each scenario akin to solving a puzzle as the best way to take down enemy forces. There is a rock, paper, scissors feel to the game where each unit is equipped to counter at least one other unit type.

Hero ‘skill’ trees are interesting and offer a variety of ways to develop various heroes that have an impact on game play.

There is an overall story that connects a series of individual scenario missions. Each dialog choice can have a significant impact on how further scenarios play out. However, in general, the consequences are inconsistent in results and severity. It is counter-intuitive and requires you to save, load, reload… try again… etc.

Real player with 1633.7 hrs in game

Made by fans of the original, this sequel builds upon the core of the 1996 Fantasy General game while expanding and improving it in many ways. Among the improvements are useful tooltips and the fact your units no longer get pushed around (which used to be able to force a surrender on them), or a system that rewards you with gold if you can get through the mission quickly, instead of punishing you with a loss if you don’t beat it within a certain number of turns (as in the original).

The different units available to you each have different roles and due to interesting traits can be used to solve problems in a variety of ways while needing support from other units in other situations - after a couple of maps you will most likely already find yourself with a nice mix of them, as there is no simple ‘two unit winning combo’.

If you liked those, you’ll like this. (Esp the o.g.)

A little rough around a few edges, but up until August the devs were freely communicating with the community, and I’m holding out hope they haven’t gone anywhere. I really enjoy the aesthetic and ambient sounds, (I’m a sucker for animated falling leaves).

The title is unforgiving, happening across a hidden enemy may well result in a squad wipe. Learning controls may require some trial and error also, since there isn’t a manual that I’ve seen.

Fun game. Definitely reminds me of the old SSI tactical strategy games, especially the original Fantasy General.

A bit rough around the edges now but shows good promise. If you’re a turn-base strategy junkie, it’s worth putting down the money now and play along in its EA form and watch how it develops.

If you’re not a hard core turn-base player and wants something more polished/finished, then I recommend putting this game on your Wishlist or follow it and see how it turns out in a few months.

Thea: The Awakening

Thea: The Awakening

About time I wrote a review for Thea. I have played the game for 900 hours now and I still don’t see myself getting bored with it anytime soon. More on the replayability later but first a quick overview.

Thea: The Awakening is a turn-based survival strategy game on a procedurally generated hexagonal world. It plays a lot like the early exploration phase in Civilization. The main difference is that the game is about survival instead of expansion. You won’t build an empire with a large army, instead you have to defend your only village from evergrowing threats while also finding the time to go out and gather materials and do quests so you can become stronger. If you don’t keep up with the enemies in terms of power they will overwhelm you but don’t worry, there are many difficulty modifications. You can play on 50% (very easy), 350% (very hard), and anything in between. The game has a lot of RPG elements, an excellent crafting system, and a card game to resolve various types of conflicts. The game combines regular fantasy creatures such as orcs and elves with slavic mythology. If you don’t know anything about that you’ll meet a lot of new creatures here such as Stryga’s and Baba Yaga’s.

A Review of: “THEA: The Awakening”

A Single-player, 4X Dark Fantasy, Hex-Grid, Turn-Based Strategy-RPG, Card Battler, Resource Management Survival Game where Choices Matter with Crafting and Replay Value.

I’m usually either a fan of Grand Strategy games or RPGs, turn-based War-games and War-sims. I had this game in my library a couple years before getting around to trying it out. Now that I’m playing it; it’s great or certainly could have been with a few GUI and QOL improvements.

It’s very RPG-like, with lore and Slavic-based mythos. I love deep lore games that tell a storey (BG / Planescape). I also like games that base their lore on “real world” mythos (Inquisitor) and this game makes tons of references to eastern European folklore.
