Galactic Civilizations III
NOTE: This is a review of the Final Release Candidate for the game, so it should apply to the released version.
Having been a long-time GC2 player, I eagerly signed up for the Founder’s Edition early-access over a year ago, and have followed the development of GC3 since then closely.
Let me tell you, getting a 4X game that incorporates all the features that hard-core strategy gamers want, while remaining both relevant and competitive, is really hard. As in, EXTREMELY hard. StarDock has done an excellent job with GC3. That’s not to say there still aren’t quibbles over the direction certain features have taken, but the reality is, that if you actually want to release a game, certain decisions are going to have to be taken, and you’re sure to piss off someone who wanted that feature and didn’t get it. But GC3 is a solid and entertaining game, if not a radically innovative one.

First of all it is critical to understand that the game is still in beta testing and therefore has some glitches. That said it has been pretty stable for me. (Four year old dell xps 8100 with 16gb and a 750 Ti video card). At present the plan seems to be to a go for a final release in May. There will be frequent patches before then and perhaps a beta 6 release (beta 5, with enormous additions, was released yesterday (Mar26). If you don’t like encountering bugs and reporting them to help the game, then wait for the release. Of critical importance remaining is tuning the AI to be smarter and more aggressive, imo.

Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon
Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon is a terrific game…for the right kind of gamer. Those expecting the second coming of Dawn of War (technically, third, I suppose) will be sorely disappointed. Those looking for a solid, turn-based strategy (TBS) game on a hex-based map will likely be quite pleased. Fans of the WH40K fluff will also be pleased, as you get to personally participate in the major events that make up the 2nd War for Armageddon. Personally, I’m loving the game thus far.
In terms of raw gameplay, the game itself is very much an old-school wargame. It’s somewhat similar to games like Steel Panthers, although it’s perhaps not quite as granular in its depiction of combat as that series. I haven’t played the Panzer General or Panzer Corps games, but I hear it’s similar to those (Panzer Corps especially, which is no surprise since they’re made by the same company). Anyway, it’s a TBS game on a hex-map. Units are allowed one movement and one firing action per turn (although you can move more than one space, obviously, and units with multiple weapons will use all of them, if they’re in range). Alternatively, you can reinforce a unit, or recover morale.

“Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon” takes place during the Second War for Armageddon, and is the second of three massive conflicts between the Imperium of Man and the Ork Warboss, Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka that took place between 941.M41 through 943.M41. The war was fought on the Hive World of Armageddon in the Segmentum Solar, where Ghazghkull Thraka launched an Ork WAAAGH! consisting of five separate Ork tribes in an attempt to seize the planet for themselves.

Fun, challenging levels, the tower build queue is an amazing idea that I hope other games use in the future.
I do feel like many levels can be beaten easily by rushing the enemy spawner, but its up to you when you do this. I just wish the game made it harder, or more punishing to go for this early on.

Was initially put off by the lack of reviews, but was encouraged by the number of updates. Glad I took the chance.

Sid Meier’s Civilization®: Beyond Earth™
Alright, here is the lowdown.
I had been anticipating this game since it had been announced. I also had played a bit of alpha centauri, so I was interested to see where this game would go.
The Good:

Some of the issues with 1UPT have been solved. I am still not a fan, but floating units helps you siege cities easier, which as somebody who has 500+ hours in civ (playing emperor/immortal) I appreciate this greatly. This effect comes in more late game.

Cities don’t get built instantly, which is great. I think we can all agree that it is annoying when you are 1 tile away from a settler who makes a city right before you get to him, and now suddenly, you have to come back with an army. Instead, they have an outpost, which is far easier to assault. This prevents the computer and other players from making low-risk, high reward cities all the time. They have to actually consider where they are building this outpost and defending it.

Writing this review to give my take on the “mixed” state of the current reviews.
tldr; If you’re a die-hard Civ fan like myself, then heck yeah. If you’re uncertain, just get it on sale because it brings alot of new stuff to the table. And also, space.
I’d like to adress one point first of all, which is a reoccuring thing I notice in the review; I see people saying it should be a mod for Civ V rather than a full game which is something I strongly disagree with. I’d even go as far as to say Civ 6 is more similar to V than BE is to V.

the game is really good, the graphics and animations feel like an arcade game, as it really is. it doesn’t get too overwhelming easily, the gameplay is simple, but the characters have unique skills, which makes the game more interesting, and also more cool. in the game there is the possibility to change the music which helps not to get too heavy, in short the game is incredible, even more so for an indie studio, with lots of fun and very reasoning stages, good for training the brain and having fun whenever you want, it’s cheap, good and light, a good choice for any audience, I recommend leaving the option to return only 1 shift, so as not to have to return the entire phase, and to think about adapting to android, it would be very played, already that most casual gamers are on mobile devices. but in general the game is excellent, congratulations to those involved and I hope many other games in the future.

Shadow Empire
Shadow Empire is an incredibly crunchy 4x planetary empire simulator. That’s the short version. Please also note that I purchased my copy on the Matrix site about a week before the Steam release, and I have basically been playing it non-stop since then.
A word of warning. If you are not into highly complex 4x games, you might as well stop reading now.
Still with me? Good. Here’s the TLDR. If you can imagine Civilization, Total Annihilation, Railroad Tycoon 3, and Mad Max: Fury Road all getting together and somehow producing a baby, then you aren’t too far off the mark. Shadow Empire is a love letter to those deep, complex 90’s-era strategy games that have become almost extinct in the mainstream today. Even the quaint and simple graphics reflect this. Remember when games like this came with a big instruction book? Well, this thing’s E-manual is 365 pages long. Three. Hundred. Sixty. Five.

tl;dr: Mechanics excellent, usability middling poor, visual style atrocious. It’s one of a kind. If you can stomach its looks and a lot of micromanagement, get it.
I’ll not even start talking about the positives, because that would leave me with no time to play the game any longer. Instead, here’s what’s bad.
UI is a sin. Functional, but as ugly as it can be without forcing you to turn your head in disgust. I’ll say no more on the subject, let’s just state that the screenshots, which almost dissuaded me from even giving the game a try, are carefully selected to show its more presentable views. Apart from its aesthetic shortcomings, it’s also cumbersome, inelegant, and sometimes buggy. And you need to pay very close attention to every part of it, because much important information is presented in very unassuming ways.

Greetings, comrades, today I am here to talk to you about “Codex of Victory.” If you enjoy war-games with turn-based combat, you will enjoy “Codex of Victory.” It reminds me of playing the old Avalon Hill 20th century boardgames such as Panzer Leader and Panzer Blitz. The game is fun against the computer and can also be played against a human opponent in a 1-on-1 skirmish. Actually the skirmish mode is more fun as the computer mode involves a very long campaign. In PvP skirmish mode, your turns are timed and you only get a finite bit of time to study the map, plan your move, move your pieces and fire.

Grav Blazer
Ripknot Systems is a shovelware developer, spamming out crap games in order to raise game counts and completion %. With that said, I enjoyed this game for what it is.
Small drones, shooting fighters, destroyers, and Galaga-shaped cruisers chase and fire upon you as you try to destroy all of the ship spawning bases. Left click to fire, right click to fire an energy ball that goes through everything in its' path. Simple, repetitive, but I enjoyed it and my kids want to get it now.
To the Devs, if you’re reading: this could be an awesome game with a level-up system, powerups, a mini-map, better/more variety enemies. Also a tutorial wouldn’t hurt, as I think there’s more than 2 weapons.
