The Bridge

The Bridge

The Bridge is a 2D puzzle game with beautiful Escher-like architecture and level design, hand-drawn black-and-white art and its own laws of physics. It is divided into 48 levels with the first half requiring minimal use of logic and feeling like somewhat of a pushover; fortunately, this is mostly remedied in the second half—a mirrored version of the first with additional obstacles thrown in and where a greater number of puzzles actually make you think.

The puzzles start off easily enough, with simple gravity manipulation and key collection, then introduce additional elements consistently: deadly balls which roll as you rotate the environment and can adhere to their own laws of gravity; points which invert gravity and shift you between black and white dimensions where you may only interact with objects matching your current color; vortexes which suck anything near them into place and hold them there until deactivated; mirror images of yourself which require entering multiple doors or picking up multiple keys simultaneously to progress; and gravity curtains, where you may remain stationary while rotating the world to work objects into their desired positions relative to your own.

Let me start by saying that The Bridge is not a bad game. For an indie game the developers should be proud of what they’ve accomplished. If there were a somewhere-between-thumbs-up-and-thumbs-down button this is the game I would most want to use it for.

I leaned on the side of not recommending it though, for several reasons. This game is inevitably compared to Braid because it has an artsy style, time manipulation, and puzzles. But it’s nowhere near the level of those other puzzle games I love, including Braid or Limbo or even Master Reboot. The reason is mostly depth and story. There simply isn’t that much here. And what does exist is far too obscure and limited to be moving.

Is this game a masterpiece? Yep, as long as you don’t expect more than a linear puzzle-platformer.

It is a day like any other: We slumber peacefully in a secluded corner of the factory, when a flying yellow cube wakes us up. We follow the cube and are thrown into a tube by a mechanical hand … The yellow cube now turns into a spear, which we can call back to us at any time. Armed with the spear, we now run from left to right. Soon we see countless other workers who look exactly like us and have also taken the same path as us - but each on paths running parallel to us. We can wave at them, but not interact with them directly. This is how Out of Line begins - and as yet the story makes absolutely no sense.

Out of Line

An attractive 2d puzzle game with a futuristic feel. Out of the Line delivers on aesthetics and atmosphere but could prove to be a little too easy for puzzle enthusiasts.

Great puzzle design.

Great character design.

Great background sound.

The story are really smooth and catches people’s hearts immediately but meanwhile it is pretty sad atmosphere around.

Most puzzles need a lot of work to solve but not too hard so people get stuck for ever.

Don’t pay full price for such a short game.

Ending was predictable and very unsatisfying without an alternative.

Doesn’t save properly and hint system is tedious.

Overall very disappointing compared to the unique gameplay concept.

The Lost Cave of the Ozarks

The Lost Cave of the Ozarks

The Lost Cave of the Ozarks hits the mark aesthetically, but there are some gameplay and design misses that make it a bit of a grind to play.

The Good: The visuals of this game are where it really shines; The game is beautifully illustrated and the visuals are very well done technically. You can tell the environments are hand-crafted and do a good job of filling out the setting. The backgrounds move fluidly and really give you a sense of the space you are exploring. The music is also very nice and fits the game very well.

This game is very unique in that it tells multiple stories that weave together in expecting and unexpecting ways, the sound track really adds to the depth of each area you explore and the environments are breathtaking to behold. There are also bonuses to discover for the keen adventurer, along with many puzzles to solve,

To be informed as humanly possible, I completed this game. In fact, I got 100% completion just to ensure I was as informed on this review as humanly possible. I would like to break it up into two parts, as my opinions on them clash wildly.

The visuals and audio in this game are simply stunning, and my main draw to the game when I first saw the E3 trailer for it. The world seemed very unique and reminded me of a children’s book, and I quite enjoy this aesthetic. And once I started playing, I found that the music and sound design was simply stunning. It’s clear that a ton of work went into making this facet work (See the headphone recommendation every time the game is booted), but sadly some more time should have been spent on other parts of the game.

Is this game a masterpiece? Yes, as long as you look for an easy, slow going platformer where the main challenge is to find your way (and some secrets). Yes, if you enjoy narrative games in an interesting, dystopian setting. Otherwise, no. No challenging action sequences, no convoluted puzzles. You don’t even have a real inventory. Minute plays a bit like… Loom.

Sunset Shapes

Sunset Shapes

Sunset Shapes was a very pleasant surprise for me. It’s a puzzle game where You have to connect several pieces (sets of blocks) to form a shape where it’s shadow will be casted in a mural. All the shadows uncover a simple story about the travels of a maggot and a daisy.

The art it’s very simple, but it’s also very enjoyable. Specially if You imagine yourself walking alongside a mural in the beach.

The game play it’s very simple. You only have to move and rotate the pieces around, so their shadow fit the demarked zones.

I must say that I am so very proud to be 1 of the 1,653 people who saw something special and unique in this game, & helped Kickstart this amazing project almost 4 years ago.

We/I have as backers waited very patiently for this game to be complete and it has payed off. The game had been in development for 4 long years and perhaps even more. This game is the very first indie game, developed by this small young indie studio team called Teku Studios

Introduction : Candle is a platform-arcade puzzle Adventure from Daedalic Entertainment in the form of an narrative fantasy story. The first thing you will notice is the artistic pencil draw feeling of the environment and the characters. So as you can imagine is up to personal taste whether you’ll like it or not. Personally I found the atmosphere very much too my liking. Let’s see every aspect separately and discover if it’s worth playing.
