Ascending Madness
You’re tripping and loving it …
… until the skulls showed up.
Ascending Madness is a twin shooter that’ll challenge your arcade skills. As you play, you’ll find a variety of psychodelic enemies while fighting them off with cool weapons and equipping with rune power ups.
But it is much more than that. Immediately, you’ll be thrown into Merrick’s story that’ll leave you asking “What is happening? What happened? Where am I (Merrick)?” As you explore, you’ll meet other characters (if you can call them that) who will fill in the details and then confuse you more … or perhaps it is just the madness talking?

Samorost 3 was one of my most anticipated games for 2016. When I finally played and finished it, it left me a tad bit dissapointed
Right off the bat, I instantly fell in love with the presentation. Like Amanita Design’s previous games, the world is weird and wonderful, with all of the vibrant colours and impressive locations. The world is constantly full of life and energy; often at times, I just stared out into the distance and saw weird creatures in the background and observing their behaviours, and each time doing so felt like observing strange animals in David Attenborough documentaries. It is not hard to fall in love with the off-beat world of Samorost 3. The atmosphere is pushed forward with the beautiful score by Tomas Dvorak, the same composer for the music from Samorost 2 and Machinarium. The sound design, much like Amanita design’s previous entry, Botanicula, is very bizzare and maybe even out of place at times, but that made the world even more weird and charming. The presentation is definitely where Samorost 3 really shines.

Memory Eater
Memory Eater is a unique puzzle-platformer with a lot of problems, especially when it comes to navigation. This would be a negative review if the game was a bit more expensive, but for only $2 you get a platformer with beautiful art style and a decent amount of content, so I think I can overlook the technical problems to some extent. I really love the mysterious settings, monster design, and backgrounds; it has a very unusual look, slightly reminds me of Mirage of Dragon. As the title would suggest, you play as a memory eater that has to collect memories in order to complete the level. Unfortunately, navigating the map is a pain in the butt, there are many fake walls that should not be on it. It has a decent amount of stages, and the game constantly adds new puzzle elements. I wouldn’t recommend it for platforming gameplay, but if you looking for something artistic (in a creepy way), I think it has some intriguing qualities.

-
Started the tutorial
-
Struggeld with the odd key-binding, especially the fact that SPACE isn’t jump.
-
Got the hint to switch characters with the teddy bear from the inventory, but it did not work.
-
Went to the menu to check the controls any my progress got reset.
-
Restarted the tutorial and got other hints actually.
-
Got stuck by an obtuse barrier.
-
Gave up the tutorial and went over to the first level.
-
Got the feeling that this game is just about “find all trinkets in a labyrinth with enemies”.

This game made me scream so badly my roommate had to come make sure I wasn’t being murdered.
I really love the different designs and areas. I only played through it once so far and got the bad ending but I definitely want to play it again to see if I can get the other endings. The level and sound design is brilliant, in my opinion. The game really knows how to invoke anxiety and fear into the player. There’s the anticipation for a scare lurking around for the majority of the game. I enjoyed all the puzzles as many of them felt very unique and there was certainly a feeling of relief upon completing specific ones and entering essentially a safe zone.

Plokoth

TLDR: Fix the input lag and this game will be a pleasure to play
Unfortunately I can’t say that this one is worth your time. The art is lovely and the levels are good, but the input lag makes the game annoying to play at best. I’d be happy to give this game a proper playthrough once it functions better but at the moment each stage is impossible without retying it many times to work out the exact points that I need to press jump at. This method falls apart on the more complex levels. One other nitpick I have is that there’s no obvious way to close the game :/

Echoes
Fears are not always just rustles in the dark. And death is not always a bad ending. Sometimes the acuteness of social phenomena and the bitter taste of life opens up a glance at the other side of being. It is to this topic that the ECHO short story is devoted. The theme of what remains of a person after his death. Sometimes, these are great deeds and high-profile deeds. And sometimes, it’s just the memory of other people. And one more thing. The visual novel “ECHO” is a game in which you decide for yourself what to do with the oppressive silence of difficult memories. Emotional swamps of burnt rural lives. Forgotten houses, abandoned villages. And a fluttering light of hope that everything will be fine. Enter an abandoned house with echoes of other people’s lives. And get out of it if you can.
