Very interesting game, the description says it all, clearly…but it runs well and feels fun! I keep saying it in these reviews, but I mean it…the price is a little too steep..this could be fun for a lot of people but…if they won’t spend 11 bucks, maybe the won’t see how good it is, anyways..just my thoughts. Not a bad game at all!

It’s nice to play a game that doesn’t hand everything to you on a plate. In an age of ultra-high budget productions I’m reminded that sometimes simplicity can produce a compelling game. Some talented individuals with a story to tell, maybe a few puzzles and jump scares along the way make a surprisingly compelling game. Because of the whole horror retro vibe of the game this is definitely one to play with headphones. I have to admit that I took a while to complete this, probably because I’m not that great at puzzle games. I have to admit there were periods of frustration when I was stuck on a few puzzles but to me that makes it all the sweeter when you finally figure it out. Don’t get me wrong, the game isn’t without its flaws. The low-res aesthetic certainly won’t appeal to everyone. Sometimes it feels like the difficulty of the puzzles can suddenly jump without much of a ramp up to them. I think an optional hint mode as an option within each puzzle could help. Checkpoints need to be more evenly spaced as I had to play for a good 30 minutes before I hit my first one. For what the game is, when it was floated on the steam store I thought it was a little expensive. But hey what are Steam sales for! All in all this game is a great reminder that you don’t necessarily need a multi-million pound budget and photo realistic graphics to make a compelling story that’s enjoyable (if a little scary) to play through. Now I just need to complete play throughs with all the other characters XD.

Yes, I’m aware of the ALL CAPS game this title is similar to.

Are there games out there like Rogue?

Yes, a lot. That is why “Rogue-like” is now a genre.

Am I going to make a federal case out of inspiration?

No, no I am not.

What I will do is say that this game is awesome. It sets up its own unsettling folklore-themed flavor, presented in classic retro-PC style, with some pretty clever puzzles. There are multiple characters, and multiple endings depending on what you do and/or the order you do things in.

Read carefully, as this story is too boring to read it again.

You, an absolutely newbie hellish commander, gain the possibility* to prove that all rumors about your person are at least 28% wrong, and you are in fact capable of commanding small forces in the greatest Hell vs Heaven war that ever happened**.

Put on your Unterleutnant uniform and do your job.

What you probably want to know:

  • 15*** almost beautiful, challenging levels on Hell, Earth and Heaven scenery.

  • 10 different minions, so you don’t need to do everything yourself.

  • A lot of challenging puzzles that may be impossible to solve for people under 5 y.o.

  • Interesting dialogues for full silent cinema experience.

  • You can decorate Devil with tattoos****.

  • Beware of holy water!

_* of course if you buy or torrent game, otherwise you will be seen as uncappable of this tasks for the rest of your life

** at least in this dimension; C137 and D2R2 are much more interesting in this case

Covenanted

Covenanted

Covenanted is a hand-drawn rogue-like with RPG elements and an original turn-based combat system

A contract with the devil is always a bad idea [/]

The heroine of Covenanted, bound by a contract with the Devil, is on a journey through the magical world. Pursued by the Inquisition and blackmailed by the Devil, she has to balance between light and darkness in order to gain the support of powerful allies and break the endless cycle of rebirth

Combat Alchemy [/]

The journey is full of dangers! As the game progresses, the witch collects recipes for unique potions and gathers ingredients to make her magic even more powerful. Each recipe has its own unique effect

Procedural generation [/]

The global map of Covenanted is generated for each session. The variety of locations, the number of opponents and the available rewards are selected in such a way that each race is different from the previous one

Visual style [/]

We pride ourselves on the visual style of the game. All the main elements were drawn with ink on paper and digitized. The world of Covenanted is growing, our artists are working on new characters and locations

Random events and story quests [/]

We want players to feel the impact of the decisions made in story quests throughout the game. Despite one true ending, the fate of the Covenanted side heroes remains in the hands of the player

Fairy Middle Ages [/]

When creating the world, we were inspired by the worlds of the fantasy genre, world folklore, myths and legends. In Covenanted, elves and werewolves live in the same world with the characters of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and ancient myths

Cave Quest 2

Cave Quest 2

I got a review copy of this game for my curator and wrote this a month before release, so it might be slightly outdated.

Cave Quest 2 looks like a pretty run-of-the-mill Hidden Object game, but it’s actually a solid P&C match-3 puzzle adventure. I’m not familiar with the first Cave Quest, but didn’t feel like that was a problem.

This game is easy on the eyes with some really nice backgrounds, though there are no animations for the NPCs and their expressions were sometimes weirdly inappropriate for their text (voiceover only in a few cutscenes). The story isn’t mind-blowing, but it’s entertaining enough and written or translated/proofread by someone who actually knows English.

In this video I take a look at Cave Quest 2, a match 3 adventure.

This game is great! I ended up playing the entire thing including the extra story line. It plays like a point and click adventure only everything is done via match 3 matches, from the travel and combat to foraging and forging. So if you love match three’s your going to love this. The travel matches are particularly good as they offer a different perspective on the match 3. You need to clear tiles to move your avatar forward and the gems will drop in the direction you are moving.

Ninja: Rise of a Hero

My love! I miss you so much! The sneaky Dracula kidnapped you on the eve of our wedding… All my life I’ve trained for this moment! And was not ready for it…

I can endure any pain and take any blows without moaning!

I can imitate the sounds of any animals and birds!

I cleverly climb trees and swim in the water like a fish!

I am impeccable in Ninjato and the art of throwing shuriken!

I can see perfectly in the dark!

And I could not see the enemy in the daylight…

The Cult: Marduk’s Longest Night

The Cult: Marduk’s Longest Night

Wow! That’s really cool!

I wasn’t expecting that the game turned out to be so gripping! It involves you immediately and doesn’t leave till the very end.

To begin with, the main character, Caleb Marduk, who stained his hands with blood of many people (and not only), must rescue his daughter – the only one character whose soul is not poisoned by Sins. At least not yet.

I gladly noticed that the game script pays attention to the smallest details. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration if I say that the game developers were able to create a full-fledged game universe and they’re pretty successful on this way: all the characters have their own stories and take specific place in Marduk’s journey. Nothing is casual here, and searching these connections is absorbing. Answers are not on the surface – gamers need to switch on brains and use logic to the maximum.

I’ve just finished playing. Honestly, the game has its charm. I loved it. I know what I am talking about. I’ve played a lot indie-horror on my phone. I’m keen on this genre. Once I’ve seen this game I decided to pay for it and play. I’m not sorry for it at all. I think I have had great time, trying to listen up to any murmur at my room and solving puzzles:) Usually horror games use simple tactics as screamers and so on, but this is an exclusion. You won’t see here any screamers, but it has creepy atmosphere. Besides the plot is kinda deep. Idk why it reminds me some stories about penitence. The main character has interesting story behind and I hope I will learn more about him in next part of his adventures. What’s about paintings. I loved them. I see, they’re tasteful. Together with soundtracks they seem perfect background for such game.

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection

Played this a lot on the Switch, and am gladly going to play it even more on PC. If you have a high tolerance for frustration and can laugh at both your own stupid mistakes and some downright mean BS the game will throw your way (mostly difficulty, but some cheap traps as well), I believe you’ll have an absolute blast playing this. It’s quite a rollercoaster of intense excitement, intense frustration and intense satisfaction.

The GnG series was always quite unique due to how well it evoked a feeling of fumbling or panic with its design and mechanics. No matter how well you know a level and how good of a plan you have, things always go very wrong very quickly, and you will be forced to quickly make some hard decisions or die. This aspect of the games was always the main source of excitement, satisfaction and humor. GnG Resurrection doubles down on this exact element and ramps it up more than any previous game in the series.

Ghosts ‘n Goblins is back and it’s harder than ever! Having played four games in this series I was convinced that I was more-than-ready to tackle its hardest difficulty (Legend) for my first playthrough, oh how wrong I was. Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection (GnGR) is best described as a remake+. It borrows heavily from the gameplay, enemies, levels, music, and more from the first two games but also contains new content that fits in with what the original games established. GnGR features four returning stages that are significantly longer and play completely differently as well as three brand new stages.
