Solstice Chronicles: MIA

Solstice Chronicles: MIA

Hello gang,

I am a Fig backer, that was able to partake in testing various aspects of Solstice Chronicles: MIA. In no way, shape or form did I receive this game for free or get payed financially to write this review, and also I am not an employee of IRONWARD. I am a simply man with simply needs. A video game to use as an escape from the soul crushing reality I call life! So, now that’s out of the way, let’s begin!

Do you find yourself wanting to be a space marine that shoots foreign creatures in the face to save humanity? Then look no further! If you are fans of the movie ‘Aliens’ or games like ‘HELLDIVERS’, then this is the game for you.

So, i played Red Solstice before and i tried this one not specially hyped about the change in gameplay, but i was happily surprised by this game

The game is overall good for me, good graphics, fluid gameplay, the first missions of story mode used as a tutorial in disguise but still with enough difficulties to be called missions. made it run on high definition without fps drop or graphic anomaly

We have 4 classes, each with it’s own mecanics : Assault (good melee and shooter), Demolition (heavy use of skills), Hellfire (Tank and crowd control), and Terminator (Powerful but decrease suit integrity with each used skills)

Pretty good so far.

Core gameplay is a bit tricky at first, but if you time your parries properly and doesn’t just spam them, you’ll be good to go.

Your special ability is even trickier but then I learned to use it in sync with my rmb. It creates this huge AOE skill.

I wonder if I can change my scores without starting a new game, though. Going to back to a castle won’t reset it.

UI could be better, music and graphics are great.

9th Dawn III

9th Dawn III

9th Dawn III is a great hack-and-slash dungeon crawler/RPG with a lot of content. The game has a semi-open world concept with limited access to areas related to the main story. There is a predefined path to progress in the game, but the number of optional dungeons gives a lot of freedom. I enjoyed the storyline, even if it is a clichéd “save the world from evil” scenario.

You can definitely tell that the developers put a lot of attention to detail in this game. There is a huge amount of items, skills, monsters and general things you can do in the game. You can go fishing and make a meal out of your catch, or you can go mining and forge a new weapon etc.

9th Dawn III is a 2D pixel take on a huge open world filled with smithing, jewelcrafting, alchemy, cooking, taming monsters, a card game along with the usual dungeon crawling and loot that are familiar for everyone. The animation and art for this game are it’s weakest points, which as an artist I hate saying. On the plus side, everything else is so damned good that you will get past the look of it pretty damned quickly. It is singularly my only “complaint” about this game, and even there the dark dreary textures that seem to blend into each other are vastly outweighed by amazingly implemented gameplay mechanics, a fun little story that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and a plethora of crafting minigames and card minigames that will keep you entertained for hours.

Action Commando 2

Action Commando 2

This is more of a Neutral case than a real recommend. While this game generally falls short of expectations, it is still enjoyable, the gameplay is solid, the game itself is stable. I still had fun. Yet, read on and weigh whether it will be worth it for you.

Let’s start with the negative to balance out that this is a Recommend review.

  • Very short. I beat it on normal in about 2.25 hours, and that’s with some messing around wasting time. The first game took me about 3.5. (Note: I was already used to the gameplay having played Town of Machine ((the superior of the three)), so the time difference between the Action Commando games was not due to getting more used to the style).

Real player with 2.8 hrs in game

Action Commando 2 is extremely rushed. I wouldn’t mind “more of the same” if there was at least some attempt to make it seem like the next chapter… but there isn’t. The only area that looks different is, deceptively enough, the start so you’re lead to believe that at least the aesthetics are different. But no such luck. Very soon we’re back to the same old underground corridors that look exactly like in the previous game. Oh you like that cool background with asteroids and space ships? Well, better take a good look because that’s the only time you’ll see it! It gets so bad that the final level literally reuses areas from Town of Machine and our big payoff for finishing the game is… Nothing! I mean it, there’s not even a text at the end. You just press a button and that’s it, credits roll. Not to mention it’s even shorter than AC1. This game costs almost nothing and yet I still feel ripped off.

Jogward

Jogward

It’s a very simplistic, bullet hell/swarm game with a rudimentary upgrade system - There is SOME depth as to how you proceed with a certain weapon (You have 3 save slots for each of the 6 weapons, so you can test builds out). However, the upgrades are seemingly optional; however, they are absolutely required to complete any number of waves. This game has a very addictive substance to it, and I myself would love to see some more things on the farm - Perhaps you could use gold to upgrade/purchase additional farm implementations to assist you? At Wave 190, I’m killing probably around 200 enemies a wave, while scraping with minimal health/near misses!

Real player with 7.1 hrs in game

A simple fun game for only $5. I will try to beat wave 100 in the future but wave 33 is very hard. I highly recommend playing this game. It is a wave base game like Call of Duty Zombies. I would buy a game like this.

Knighty Night

Knighty Night

Knighty Night is a fantastic game that can be completed within a few hours. The fascinating story that follows a brave night traversing through four different parts of a haunted land, fighting ghosts and the traps they set up to keep the knight from defeating the evil that plagues the area. Unlike many indie games that stick to a 2D style, this game takes full advantage of Unity by pushing 3D graphics, animations, and a birds eyes camera to follow the player. Not only does the game look beautiful, it sounds beautiful. Every sound in the game plays perfectly with what it is complimenting on screen. But if you like your game silent, this game has the ability to silence just the SFX, Music, or both if that’s what you’re into. Like the sound, this game has video settings that allows your game to be windowed, fullscreen, and different resolutions so no monitor will feel left out.

Ampersat

Ampersat

Ampersat is a shooty, slashy, RPG-y game mixing old-school/retro and modern sensibilities. A blend of influences from Gauntlet and Smash TV to Zelda and a dash of Angband, this is a handcrafted adventure with much appeal to fans of Roguelites. A labor of love from a solo developer, Ampersat distills some favorite childhood gaming experiences into a fresh, fun hybrid that sees you killing a lot of monsters, finding a lot of loot, freeing captured letters (um, what?) and growing from a world-weary warrior mage into a powerful smashing/blasting machine!

Main Features

  • More than 50 handcrafted levels, many with exploration and light puzzles

  • Optional endless procedural area

  • Original gameplay elements based around freeing and capturing letters

  • Flexible character progression with extensive skill tree

  • Hundreds of unique pieces of loot find, buy, sell and augment

  • Upgradeable town hub

  • Tackle stages in the order you choose

  • 50 unique creature types with individual AI, 10 fiendish bosses

  • Drop-in local async co-op (and online using Steam Remote Play Together) - suitable for young players to team up with their parents

You may notice the main character and enemies are ASCII letters - yes, this is an aesthetic throwback to the original Rogue games, and the blending of these with colorful 3D top-down environments was the idea that first spawned Ampersat. Likewise, Commodore 64 SID chip sound effects are used alongside real-world music for a distinctive experience. But just what is an “ampersat?” It’s the leading contender for the official name of the @ symbol, of course!

Overview

Gentlheim has been invaded by Lord Z, who has surrounded the village with 5 extraplanar towers and the dungeons beneath, filled with evil creatures. Even worse, he has stolen language itself from the townspeople! As the warrior mage Ampersat, you must venture deep into the dungeons and high above the land in the treacherous towers, defeat countless minions and restore language to Gentlheim so the townsfolk can communicate properly and help you defeat Lord Z himself.

Gentlheim

Gentlheim has shops to buy and sell goods; an Inn to heal up, level up, and stash gold to retrieve after death; and a deep Well leading to randomly generated procedural levels. There are various structures you can pay to upgrade and, as language returns to the village, townsfolk who may need something… Gentlheim hides a few surprises for the inquisitive gamer and provides a hub area to approach different stages in any order you like, or revisit levels you’ve already beaten.

The Well is where the “roguish” aesthetics are turned up to 11, providing short, sharp, loot-gathering deep delves once you repair it. There’s an old rumor that something very special is buried at the bottom of the well… but no one has ever reached those depths.

Co-op

Ampersat’s async co-op is true drop-in, drop-out at any time. The second player controls a fairy that hovers around Ampersat and also launches attacks. Will you trust them with your best spell? No? They might steal it anyway… While the fairy’s shots aren’t as powerful and contribute to overheating, it has the huge advantage of being invulnerable. The perfect partner… if you can get along.

God’s Trigger

God’s Trigger

God’s Trigger:

Well, depending on your belief, when you take your last breath, you may end up either in Paradise or in Hell. It could be helpful to write your good deeds and not-so-good deeds on a slate in order to evaluate where you might be going in the afterlife. Of course, that would be very a subjective evaluation, but if you had no time to reflect and the Apocalypse was about to occur, what would you do? I guess you’d be praying for a miracle. Well, you’ve been heard! Heaven and Hell have combined forces to defy the archangel Gabriel’s plan to start the Apocalypse in God’s Trigger!

### More interesting reviews on [Fenol Baron Approves Curator Page](https://store.steampowered.com/curator/33843777//)

The fallen angel and demoness unite to confront the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Big guns, many explosions, angelic swords, many psychedelic fantasies (each Horseman has his own insane flock, obediently following any of his orders). “God's Trigger” is a top-down shooter, in which both the player and the enemies fall from just one successful shot, with a very fast and dynamic action, a skill leveling system and (suddenly) puzzles. There are a lot of things involved in the game, it is noticeable that the developers decided to embody a lot of creative ideas, the question is, did it all work 100%

I got a key from the developer so thank you for letting me try your game.

I wanted to try this game because I enjoy top-down horror games like this, sometimes when I was playing I couldn't pick up items for some reason took me a while to figure out how to get into my inventory but that's just me i'm thick.

I went to the hospital but couldn't find any trace of the person I was looking for but again maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.

Overall I really liked it and gave me retro vibes of playing back in the 80's and 90's I made a video with no commentary just having a look at the gameplay.
