ELDERBORN

ELDERBORN

SUMMARY: Although ELDERBORN bills itself as a “Souls-like FPS”, a lot of the videos show the player frantically slashing and smashing; this might give the impression of a more straightforward heavy metal “Doom with Swords” experience (with all of the high-ledge kicking action of a Dark Messiah of Might and Magic). In reality, what I got was a fairly thoughtful and measured experience consisting of dodging, parrying, blocking, and outmaneuvering dangerous enemies; survival, particularly at higher difficulties, was about fighting intelligently and limiting the number of opponents who could bash your head in at any given time. And to be honest, I think I like it more than the game I imagined I was getting in the trailers. An easy recommendation for anybody who has a craving for some FPS-melee action.

Elderborn is a great murder simulator. The combat is challenging and satisfying, but usually not so hard that it made me frustrated (Except on the hardest difficulty that can be pretty frustrating.). The visuals are kind of whatever, nothing particularly great, but nothing that bothered me either, and the variety of enemies, environments and murdertools is more than passable.

The combat is incredibly fun and satisfying, and you have lots of tools and abilities to work with. You have 10 (I think, I feel like I may be forgetting one

! , and no the power mace doesn’t count) weapons that you collect throughout the short ~5 hour campaign and a couple of other special abilities that you can unlock through a skill tree, the most notable ones being deflect, where you reflect a projectile back at an enemy, and a charge move, which sends you flying in one direction and knocks down whatever you hit. You are often fighting several enemies at once, making you dodge all around the nice environments and your reflexes will be pushed quite hard.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2

Warhammer: Vermintide 2

I’ve stumbled upon this game back when it was in the beta times from 2018 while watching a twitch streamer try it out and at that time I would never even have guessed that it had this much to offer and how much it means to me now.

From a game that was originally meant to be played for approx. 80-100 hours, this game has more creativity, beauty, lore, depth, personality, care and charm than any other live service games I’ve seen over the past years. It is so much more than meets the eye at first glance, this honestly is a piece of art hidden in plain sight, and all it needs.. is your attention towards it. The time you can spend with it is already insane and while you are getting used to it’s flow of mechanics such as mastering a high skill ceiling combat, movesets, movement, item management, becoming a team player, taking in the enviroment and what’s around you is going to test your patience. But that’s a good thing. Learning is afterall more.. effective and rewarding that way. Times when you turn philosophical and ask “why is this the way it is?" , “what’s the reason behind this?" , “what is happening exactly?" becomes more frequent. That of course, is if you are curious enough. Once you start going down the rabbit hole of exploring and unraveling the many secrets, depth and insane detailing of the game you start to realise that this is a psychological mental trip with details so tiny, that some may never even be mentioned.

Great coop-focused game that’s set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe.

But even for people who’re complete strangers to this world it’s a satisfying game to play.

If you’re in for some tense firstperson hack & slash action, while at the same time you develop your character(s) and make them entirely fitting your playstyle(s), then this game is definitely for you.

Thanks to the addition of the Chaos Wastes mode, which packs another 40 Gigs (?) of action in an entirely different gamemode, it’s pretty much two games in one.

Axilon: Legend of Artifacts - Prologue

Axilon: Legend of Artifacts - Prologue

Ok, so after playing through this three times i think some words can be said.

At first do not expect a game in an early state. It feels more like a Techdemo with a rough concept and if you judge it with this fact in mind, you get something quite enjoyable for a half an hour.

Overall you have three levels, each different with setting and the graphic is quite nice.

The combat system can be frustrating cause it feels clonky, same with the overall movement but if you can get behind the flaws and check how to avoid damage (the shield depressed me, just step back and attack after enemys swingy swings) it is ok and playable.

Buckle up it’s going to be long review.

First of I have been following this developer group - AzDimension for a while and right of the gate I wanna say - guys focus on one game, your team is small already and it shows in quality of games.

Now for the Axilon. I played game in English and Azerbaijani versions.

Positives
  • Actually nice for what is essentially basic demo MVP (Minimum Viable Product)

  • Graphics are pretty looking but cave seems huge downgrade except for rocks inside

💿 Very linear levels

💿 Short game

Real player with 4.3 hrs in game

dmc meets mgr meets dooms it has both hack and slash and shooters elements. I give it solid 6/7 out of 10. The combat is alright at times but slightly jank at times but hopefully when the game is fully released today the combat is more polished. Another bonus you can wear a school uniform.

Gladio

Gladio

Gladio has a satisfying gore mechanic and unique fighting system. The game does have its issues though, blocking sometimes does not activate at all and kicking sends enemies through the map or past the invisible wall where I cannot reach them, forcing me to restart. Overall this game is a blast and it will surely develop further into an awesome game in the future, but for now you should avoid kicking!

Recommendations:

-More weapons and maybe a shield

-The ability to mix and match armor

-The option to choose which enemies spawn

Real player with 7.9 hrs in game

When first looking at Gladio one might think it is a tiny fighting game with with no real ingame progress and attacks that could seriously use some work. You would not be wrong. The player is in a small-ish box and has to fight enemies, the only progress is watching the wave counter go up, and attacks can seem quite stupid at times.

Still, this game can be a lot of fun when you lack something to do. Add some bounce or whatever music floats your boat (the game has no soundtrack), and you are in for half an hour of adrenaline while trying to crack that level 3 armor.

Punkgrad

Punkgrad

Punkgrad is a fast-paced and bloody 3D platformer. You will become a crazy guy, with an important mission on his shoulders to save the world that was hung by a strange homeless man. It is not clear where this man came from and who he is at all, but apparently, now you will have to do what he says, but exactly to chop and to shoot creatures from different dimensions and listen to his meaningless chatter on the interlink, because there is no another way out of the situation.

You will have to go through all this experience till the end and maybe there you will find answers to your numerous questions or not, who knows…

Stonescape

Stonescape

I couldn’t say enough to properly convey my utter disappointment in a game that I am feeling right now writing this review. I will not go on a rant and sound too whiney. Stay away, maybe put it on your watchlist and see if they add something worthwhile, currently its a creative mode game with 21 building blocks to choose from. The lag is real with this game.

Real player with 0.4 hrs in game

F**** NO not worth it, so many other games cheaper that are worth mine and your time. No game options at all, you get new game, continue and quit. When you are collecting stone with pickaxe the only item you have with no inventory your fps drops down to 6 fps for a short moment. So you collect stone and build that’s the whole game.
