Dredgers

Dredgers

This is tough, because I love this game and it’s concept. It’s so fun! I have a lot of praise for it.

Unfortunately, I feel like I can’t recommend it at this time for two reasons:

  1. Missing basics like any type of saving, which pretty much everything I’ve played since the days of shareware has had, seems quite sloppy. The display of the amount of hours I’ve played isn’t really correct: most of that has been on pause because I didn’t want to exit and lose all my progress on the run.

  2. Do you know how my last run ended? No? Neither do I. Based on all the information I had, it didn’t make sense. Many key things are just not explained, so new players are going to go through several baptisms by fire, creating a lot of frustration.

Pretty solid roguelike with emphasis on speedy playthroughs and choosing your next step, though that can be its weakness too. Its big selling points are the 30+ races and crazy class combinations which are very very satisfying to play with, as well as actual honest-to-god necromancy where you can have a zombie horde if you want. Or you could skip zombies altogether, dominate the minds of your enemies, send them at your foes, blow up their (animate or inanimate) corpses into a huge mess when they die and then revive them and your former foes as skeletons. Full crafter build is viable, and thats before we get onto races. Pretty much anything that spawns in the dungeon is something you can unlock and play pretty quickly. Only exception afaik is the slime MAN (you can be a regular slime) but I suspect that’ll be implemented in time.

Avencast: Rise of the Mage

Avencast: Rise of the Mage

Avencast: Rise of the Mage is a decent game overall, but most people wouldn’t bother with this game and would most likely try something more mainstream.

Avencast is a game about a young mage who gets enrolled into Avencast Academy, where the young mage will learn about magic and the fantasy world they live in.

! Later in the game, the academy gets attacked by daemons and you must help fight off the daemons.

The story itself is pretty bland along with most of the dialogue (the funniest thing about the dialogue is Dolcina complaining about her imp). There are quite a few sidequests that you can do in the game. Most of the rewards are near worthless because you usually find better things along the way, but it will most certainly help you because you also gain XP from completing them, along with defeating any enemies along the way.

I really dont get why this game has a low rating!!! The game is fantastic. There is litteraly nothing wrong with it!! There are no buggs, the storyline is smooth and great, always keeping you interested, the controls are perfect and on top of that they are also custamizable! (if u think that they are bad) You can even roll in the game!!!! Whats not great about that, hue xD

If people dont like to play a mage dont get this game, this game is all about mages; its a Hogwarts school like game but without wands. There are 3 types of magic, Blood magic, (spells that buff ur staff, so close combat) Soul Magic (spells and ranged combat) and Summoning (that works with both Blood or Soul, depending on what you wana go with)…….well u can pretty much guess that one. The story is interesting from the start of the game and the many hours I have played the game (at this date and time) you can tell that the game is properly thought through.

Space Hack

Space Hack

Overall, after spending 45 hours grinding through this game and going through all 15 BioSpheres and all 45 levels, I can say for sure that Space Hack isn’t worth the experience in present times or at least has aged horribly.

TL;DR: This game is extremely tedious and repetitive and although I had fun in a few places I can’t really recommend this to anyone unless they are looking to complete a random game and they are willing to spend hours and hours battling with the same stuff. Even for a 2005 game it suffers from horrible pacing which shows the lack of interesting mechanics to play with.

I’ve been playing ARPGs for a long time. This sucks as an ARPG.

These are my problems with it:

  • No chest system. Biggest problem in my case. I like to save items I might or not use in the future in some place. This game didn’t have that. I ended up using my base to save good gear, by the end I had over 50 items laying around.

  • A lot back-tracking. Get this: the inventory is 10x5. A bit tiny except some items can be 2x4 in size, and as mentioned before, no chest system. So let’s say you find 5 items with size 2x4, and then a 2x2 item. You’re done, you can’t pick up the 2x2 one. You have to go back to your base (for which you have a thing called “hi-techs”, which are basically spells; most are good and useful, some don’t use your energy), deal with items however you want to deal them (again, no chest system), go back to the quest, rinse and repeat. I think at the fourth or fifth time it happens in the same map, you’re allowed to swear at the devs.

PROS:

  • A decent variety of enemies. There are about 3-4 different skins for each monster, but they each have varying attacks and behaviours to keep things interesting.

  • A large selection of craftable perks to potentially obtain.

  • The controls handle well. Dodging and attacking feels responsive and enjoyable.

  • Action-packed generally speaking. Enemies spawn in waves throughout a day, but if you take too long, the next wave will spawn in to keep you on your toes.

  • Satisfying and appropriate sound effects.

Great little arcade game. It’s difficult and has a lot of random elements that can make it anywhere from challenging to near impossible, but with games being so fast/short and the ability to restart in a couple of seconds it’s not normally frustrating.

If you like old school keyboard bashing this is for you.

Gods Will Fall

Gods Will Fall

I will say this right off the bat this game is definitely not for everyone. This is not diablo don’t play if you cannot stand losing or think this is a simple button masher. (WARNING: This game was designed for a controller, although it is not impossible to play with a keyboard it will take practice, dont hesitate to reconfigure the keys to something you are comfortable with)

The basic premise is you have 8 randomly generated warriors and 10 gods to kill, to kill one you must choose one warrior to control and traverse the dungeon of said god and then face him in combat, be warned once inside there are only three endings. Victory, capture or death. The catch however is that on each playthrough the strength of the boss will vary each time, the boss that was super easy in your first playthrough might be the strongest in the next one, worst of all you have no way of knowing until you send someone inside and once inside there is no backing out.

A challenging game full of charm and atmosphere. Note: I bought this on special with 40% off.

I finished Gods Will Fall last night and was pleasantly surprised at the fun journey I had just had. I bought this game despite the mixed reviews because I saw something in the trailers that just clicked with me and I think a lot of the negative reviews are there because the game isn’t what most gamers were expecting.

Yes the game has rogue-like elements and dare I say it, is a little souls like, but over all I think the game sets out to do it’s own thing in a way that put some players off because again, they weren’t expecting it.

Leyline Knights

If you like Roguelikes like Hades, you’d enjoy this. A couple of patches can get it working well cause I did encounter a couple a couple of bugs (in fact I only stopped playing because of one). I didn’t quite understand what are the things you select before you start the “Dungeon Run” but its fun. Managed to fight (and not always defeat) a couple of bosses which from my experience in 1 hour of play were all different so that nice. Also I have no idea how you can get back with your gems, I wanted to buy some permanent buffs but when I died I always lost everthing (not sure if intentional but usually you get to keep a small percentage if you don’t make it till the end)

I’d recommend this game, it’s a nice action roguelike game with a nice replayability value through the possibilty of different builds.

Your goal is to climb the Great Tree to do so you’ll fight enemies through different areas and maps and fight your way against bosses.

You have access to numerous upgrades, items and combining various elements to help you through it and advance to the next level of an area.

You’ll encounter NPCs that will help you and tell you a bit more on the lore.

You can also tailor your playstyle with the purchase of upgrades and such.

The game is great for a start but needs a lot of upgrades. Especially ‘‘Character Health’’. In my opinion if these improvements happen, it will make great progress.

The Batpack played this today and have to say we had a ball! The game is top notch fun with friends with many modes to play. Can play CTF, CTP, TDM, DM and also play with bots if you can’t find a match. The gameplay flows really nicely and the controls are very intuitive. The soundtrack is also fantastic which ties the game together beautifully!

At any price, grab a copy of this game! You won’t regret it!
