I used a controller to play through this game

Crystal Rift

Crystal rift is an Indie Dungeon Crawler that shows puzzles, adventure, and creepiness. Currently only act 1 of 3 is available to play through in the story. An interesting aspect of this game is the letters that you find which slowly reveal bits and pieces of what is really going on and what happened beforehand. I will add a TL;DR at the end.

This is a dungeon crawler game best suited for a seated gaming experience. I think initially I was kinda iffy about it because I wasn’t used to the feeling of moving while sitting still, but a little at a time I was able to get used to it. Also, it helps out a lot to choose the smoothest animation for turning and moving. The game defaults for a smooth walking animation but a jerky turning animation.

The Controls are unfortunately set in stone with no way to change them. The game has you use the left hand controller touchpad to move forward, backward and strafe left and right, and the right hand touch pad lets you turn left and right. This would work great if it wasn’t VR and also if the touchpad was actually 4 separate buttons and not one button with 4 sides you can press.

Raygun Chess

Raygun Chess

Raygun Chess is a Early Access free VR game that is very bare bones right now. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. There are only 6 boards at the time of this review and they are part of the tutorial. The tutorial worked. Nothing else you can play at this time. There is no multiplayer at this time. Sort of interesting take on battle chess.

Not sure how to play the big board with the 4 players. Looked like a tech demo at this time.

Maybe come back to this game sometime Next year.

There is a very good reason no-one has come up with a game to take over from chess and that is because chess is the perfect game! But that doesn’t stop ‘Raygun Chess’ from giving it a go. In short, it is chess, but with rayguns. So you have a handful of pieces that move in certain directions and amounts and if they get close enough to an opposing piece they will shoot it down. To be fair the models look good and so does the sparse, but oddly peaceful space setting! But when it comes to gameplay I just couldn’t get into it. The grabbing mechanic of the pieces hardly worked at all and when it did I found that there wasn’t a lot of strategy involved, in fact, you can win all the levels by simply moving your shooters over to the enemy as fast as you can. But hey! Someone might like this and it is at least free, so I will give it the thumbs up with a note that if I could have given it a neutral rating I would have. But it didn’t deserve the thumbs down because it is free after all.

KryptCrawler

KryptCrawler

Just very very good (I’m not playing in VR). It’s old skool and it is a simple RPG (it’s not “Eye of the Beholder 2” what is in mij opinion one of the best old skool RPG games ever, but Kryptkrawler gave me the same feeling). The style looks like “Dragon’s Lair (3D) return to the Lair”. It seems to be very simpel especially in the begining but it become better and better. For me 9 out of 10.

Game good. Compatibility and support appalling.

Don’t buy this game with a vive. Revive doesn’t work. You won’t get it running in 3d or VR, and the only way of playing it in 2d is with Vorpx. The game automatically starts steamVR every time launched in 2d, leading to crashes.

The devs have been told and told. Check the forums if you don’t believe me. They aren’t doing anything. They released this with exclusive occulus support (on steam!?!?!?!?!) and won’t even let you play it on your monitor if you have a vive!

A beautiful dungeon crawler which requires regular inventory and character attribute changes to succeed.

First Impressions🤔

The game looks and sounds wonderful with colourful backgrounds and a haunting melody playing throughout. Voice acting ranges from okay to excellent and special effect noises are loud, brash and attention seeking. It all culminates into quite an exciting experience.

Perseverance is needed as some battles almost appear impossible at first but you’ll need to think about your enemy’s strengths and weaknesses and tailor your team to win. Your party is customizable throughout the game and the line up can be changed also. You’ll be able to equip different items, potions, special skills and reassign your skill tree and attribute points. I spent quite a lot of time configuring characters to try and beat bosses. Some boss battles took me numerous attempts to win. It feels very rewarding to finally beat an opponent.

“Alas, some buried treasure!”

This game starts off in promising fashion with a well put together tutorial that has you playing a party of highly experienced characters through a short adventure so you can get a bit of background to the game and familiarise yourself with the controls and gameplay. You then roll up your own character, choosing from either warrior, hunter or mage classes, and after a short intro, find yourself exploring a mythical sunken castle. You find your first companion quite early in the game and at this point, the game is quite enjoyable. The Hungarian lore of the game is interesting and refreshingly different, combat is well balanced, the level design and hand drawn cut scenes are nice and colourful and wonderful to look at, and the game looks like a well polished product. However, by the time you reach the third main area in the game (the Deva Fortress), the difficulty seems to take a tremendous spike with some ridiculously tough opponents, and you then start really noticing how bad this game’s combat mechanics are. I tried two playthroughs, firstly as a warrior and then as a mage. The mage I found could do better AOE damage but was flimsier than a wet paper bag. Regardless, I gave up with both at the Deva Fortress as the combat was just getting too frustrating.

Time for another review))

I have played this game for about 100 hours and i find it very enjoyable.

It is an original idea using cartoony Carectors and put together very well, the whole concept of the game is excellent but still room for improvement.

The developer has a money spinner here and if he/she plays their cards right this game could be a big seller and win awards but it would mean changing and improving a few things.

Good points…

Good graphics/Game engine

Plenty of weapons

Plenty of monsters

I am quite surprised by the quantity of negative reviews, which seem to be more a knee-jerk reaction to micro-transcations than the game itself. The game is designed as a simple hack-and-slash game. A casual game to play during dead time. As such, combat and dungeon exploration are the key components - not unlocking heroes.

The random game modes are easy enough to complete without your hero dieing (which only costs two gems for revival), and these modes provide you with the gems needed to advance your hero with enough left to go to your stockpile for the occassional death or weapon improvement. With leveled up characters and some spare potions, the large random maps and the more complex, 16-level, hand-designed dungeon provide you sufficient gems to unlock higher level pets and heroes.

Strife: The Expanse

Strife: The Expanse

Honestly the greatest game ever made.

Real player with 2.1 hrs in game

A simple strategy game with 7 different units. You can customise the map (size and hills) and can change how many points each player/AI has to spend on units. There are 3 game modes FFA, Teams and CTF. You can have up to 3 AI or a total of 4 players in multiplayer.

The game is good for the price but if you are not new to strategy games you might find this game a bit dull. If you are new to strategy games though i recommend at lest trying it as a default game only takes around 8-10 mins to complete.

Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown

Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown

Having a narrator for a game can go so wrong …

But this game does it well! Charming narrator, music, and table-full of scenery and figures.

Excellent, excellent game if you worry about motion sickness (VR sickness). No chance of that at all.

This is not a full-body participation game. But as a game laid out in front of you to sit at and control – I find it one of the best! I forgot I was in VR, and the index controls are intuitive (close your hand to grab; open hand to let go). This is like playing a pirate-themed D&D game, moving figures, rolling dice, but it all happens beautifully and automatically in front of you. Pieces get knocked over – sometimes by other pieces taking their turn. But everything rights itself moments later. Even that part is funny and charming to watch.

Great and charming D&D tabletop RPG.

Could be compared with Demeo, as this is also 3rd person, turn based, grid movement, with cards to use on each turn… but its plenty different with ToT being clearly superior in a lot of ways, but also not without its drawbacks.

Table of Tales is a bit different, a bit more in depth story and mechanics wise…. its Narrator tells a story, and voices different characters, there is a bigger story than “big bad lives there, kill it because reasons”.

A full playthrough took me ~4hrs listening to all the dialogue (that can be advanced by pressing grip) and it has some replayeability, as there are a bunch of choices during the adventure that change the storyline.
