Everhood

Play Everhood!! (and nominate the game for best soundtrack!)

–——-

How did this slip my radar?

How are none of my friends talking about this game?

Every year if I am lucky I come across a game so good I wish I could go back in time just to play it for the first time again - and that game always becomes by Game of The Year. That game for me this year is Everhood. And I knew that within 30 minutes of playing the game. I’m nominating the game for Best Soundtrack – cause the OST is amazing and I feel it has a better chance of winning a nomination in that category but it was hard not to vote it as GOTY just from my personal experience with the game.

Everhood is probably one of my favorite games I’ve played this year!! I’m nominating it for best soundtrack because oh my god. There is not one song in this game’s OST that I actively dislike.

The character design and writing is SO good and I found myself liking almost every single one I’ve encountered.

This game can be so weird and funny but at the same time I’ve cried just thinking about the ending!!!

It’s just… REALLY good, I can’t think of much else to say. Putting things into words is really hard for me, but I hope this got my feelings across well.

When I first played this game it was just to impress my big brother on a like $500 vacation but now iv’e gotten pretty addicted. The games really good amazing story line and a very hard set of songs. And now that iv’e played the lost chapter the story makes a lot more sense. The ending blew my mind not giving any spoilers but some people may know what I mean. Also Annihilation is insane. But when it comes to making a game using square as the main character I was not expecting this much work and progress put into this. If you haven’t played this game yet and are just reviewing it play it know you won’t be disappointed. Well that’s all I have to say can’t wait for the next update!

Symphonic Rain

Symphonic Rain

Do you believe in fairy tales?

Symphonic Rain is a really great visual novel. It’s mostly mundane and slice of life, at least on the surface. There is a lot going on behind the scenes and while there are some clues, it doesn’t really come together until the very end. One very big plot point requires a little suspension of disbelief, but this same reveal also relies on the concepts of love and faith.

Its bright and sweet, subtle and wholesome on the surface, but is truly quite dark beneath its unassuming cover.

This is a bit strange for me to say… but I THINK I’m recommending this visual novel. The reason I’m so unsure is because it has a LOT of flaws, some of which I would say probably doesn’t make it worth the slog of playing it, but having persevered all the way through to the end, I did experience some things that I really enjoyed. But does it balance out? I’ll try to find that answer now.

Symphonic Rain’s premise is right up my street; the story plays out in a music school as the protagonist is attempting to graduate, working towards a musical ensemble between the player and the heroine of your choosing. I also really like how all of the background visuals have a hand drawn look to them - it’s a refreshing change from stock photo style pictures of schools and the like you see in a lot of VNs. The way the character sprites blink their eyes also adds something - it’s a small animation but it brings the characters to life more. The game’s themes on that basis are fantastic, and I was really looking forward to playing the game. However, from the first playthrough, of which I did many, as I wanted to experience all possible endings, it became apparent that there were some rough edges to the game, and with each route I took, the flaws got more and more major to the point where I wasn’t really enjoying myself - the only thing that pushed me through in the end was to find out what the truth behind the plot really was, feeling a bit like a morbid curiosity considering I was struggling to stay entertained at times. I’ll break down exactly what bothered me.

BEST GAME OF 2021!

Hitting notes on the 7th beat never felt more satisfying.

(And sometimes in other patterns)

Custom levels add great replay value, I’ve probably spent more time on those than in the main campaign.

10/10 IGN would play again

Rocksmith® 2014 Edition - Remastered

Rocksmith® 2014 Edition - Remastered

Does exactly what it says on the tin, makes learning guitar more fun for beginners and assists with memorizing new songs or just getting the rust off at any experience level. I put hundreds of hours into this game and the original on xbox back in college, it’s gotten worlds better with all of the DLC though. There are more than 40k songs you can download from Customsforge too, the only drawback is you need a realtone cable if you don’t want to miss notes all the time.

10/10, really has no limits in terms of tunings, timing signatures, techniques/alterations like capos, etc. and tons of replay value in co-op and bonus lead/rhythm/bass arrangements. I’m still consistently surprised by the eclectic mod community uploads and even the published DLC, and once you learn how to transcribe tabs yourself it’s really limitless. Only thing that could make it more perfect would be an option to turn on master mode for specific songs/phrases so you don’t have to play a song 3-4 times to get the notes to disappear

Whether just picking up a guitar for the first time or coming from a musical background, this guitar-playing game is just pure fun with 1000+ songs to choose from in the extensive DLC selection.

Sayonara Wild Hearts

Sayonara Wild Hearts

This game touched me in a way no other game did before. The gorgeous visuals and the best ost I ever heard, paired with a compelling and subtle narrative, and gameplay that is simple but engaging turns It into an experience that transcends the limitations of its own media.

The only downside this game has is that its visuals, despite being one of Its strongest points also limits its acessibility. My girlfriend is photosensitive and this game is not easy on her eyes, which is a shame, since I wish she could experience Sayonara wild hearts as well.

Beat Saber

Takes a while until it clicks and you enter a trance and beat that song that has taunted you for weeks. You can do an easy song and swing super hard or a tough song and enter max focus. Counts as exercise.

Extremely easy to mod with one click song downloads so make sure you get the custom songs as they play way better. If you’re only doing the default songs you’re barely playing.
