The Heroic Legend of Eagarlnia

The Heroic Legend of Eagarlnia

First off: I can’t believe that this game is priced under $19.99. It’s $12.99 — that’s simply unreal.

As a player who has never really played any grand strategy games before, The Heroic Legend of Eagarlnia has been a very surprising and enjoyable experience considering it’s an early access game developed by a dedicated team of four. If you had been watching/following this game for some time, you’ll know that Eagarlnia has gone through some rocky periods throughout the years, as the development team had been very silent about the game’s progress and status despite hosting it on Steam’s platform around late 2019. There were some hints here and there that the game would be localized to English, but there wasn’t any concrete information to go on for several months. Fortunately, the team would resurface to announce that the localization for English was well under way, and that the demo and early access release would arrive soon. If it wasn’t for their decision to localize, I most likely would’ve never stumbled across this gem of a game simply because of the language barrier.

If you’re a lover of oldschool strategy games of this kind then do not hesistate and acquire this title for yourself. The game features a truckload of detailed artwork (so many heroes…), beautiful music and enjoyable game mechanics. The weak part is definitely the translation but I think they are working on it. It’s functional but at times it can be difficult to understand the correct meaning of a skill (example: a skill says that it is good against fighters but there are no fighter units… the closest would be soldiers but it might also refer to warriors or spearmen).

Chess’Extra

Chess’Extra

Tried it out with a friend of mine, it isn’t very well made but gets the job done.

UI could use improvement, sounds could be introduced properly.

It’s free, but it’s a mixed bag. Leaving as “Not Recommended” since there are better versions for free or paid on Steam and on the Web.

Pandemic Crisis

Pandemic Crisis

This game for the price is a fantastic pandemic simulator. I love how there is no winning or losing and the fact that this game encourages you to see he economic and human side to your decisions. Timing in this game is everything in the early stages, knowing when to invoke certain restrictions in certain countries is important, countries to some extent feel different to others, some feel very different and each country will have to be analysed to decide your best approach. However the game lacks (as far as I am aware) a save function. This needs to happen as obviously sometimes these pandemics can take a long time to end. I would recommend this game and hope that the developers improve some things slightly. Notably the save function being added, maybe a few more decisions and possibly some little visual upgrades. Nonetheless definitely recommended for the price.

Galactic Civilizations® I: Ultimate Edition

Galactic Civilizations® I: Ultimate Edition

This was one of the few games I played over and over as a teen.

I’ll be honest, I never got into the sequel, because I didn’t like the way the planets were depicted (though it probably made influence more intuitive). So I don’t know how this one holds up to GalCiv II. But on its own merits, it’s a good game.

In Galactic Civilizations, you start out as ruler of united Earth. The various alien races, having gotten the secret of hyperdrive from the humans, have turned off their massive wormhole portals and scrapped them for hyper-capable colony ships. The real space race has begun, and it’s up to you to determine the path you want humanity to take.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#291 out of 612)… it’s time for Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition.

You might know Galactic Civilizations by its other name: “Oh, yeah, there was a game before Galactic Civilizations III, wasn’t there?” Indeed there was! The obvious question here is: why should anyone play Galactic Civilizations 1 when the third game exists, and is so, so good? Historical context? Pure, unadulterated whimsy? A PC so old and out-of-date that it doesn’t even qualify as a toaster? Galactic Civilizations I has got fewer features, less polish, and less depth all-around. Furthermore, you’re in for one hell of an uphill battle if you’re even -thinking- of trying to get the game to run on a modern operating system. Galactic Civilizations does not play nice with anything more advanced than Windows XP!

High Strategy: Urukon

High Strategy: Urukon

This game is surprisingly addictive. Stripping a genre down to bare bones to see what new things might appear has, of course, been done many times before, but this game demonstrates precisely why that’s the case. There are far more resources than the average grand strategy game, perhaps more comparable to an Anno or Settlers title, but stripped-down gameplay makes it easy to understand how to obtain what you need to achieve your objective.

As one might expect, the interface is tastefully minimalist and generally easy to understand. The music is very enjoyable, to the point that I’m reluctant to mute it and watch videos on my second monitor as I often do with other games (even though this game is otherwise perfect, gameplay-wise, for doing exactly that).

This is essentially a lightweight grand strategy game that has been heavily abstracted and streamlined. Everything, including your army, is a resource, and game play consists of exchanging resources either peacefully or aggressively, to try to gain an advantage against other nations. It differs a few ways from other games in the genre: it’s easy to learn the rules, and you can jump in pretty much right away; games are fast, usually lasting around an hour or two; and you’re given goals other than just “conquer everything”, which keeps the game fresh when replaying it. It does feel like the game could be expanded with more features, but given the modest price point, I find it worth the cost.

Dawn of China: Rise of Qin

Good game and with future updates, It could become a better game. You shoud introduce a “save game” feature as soon as possible.

Real player with 151.4 hrs in game

i admit I enjoyed the game when I first tried it, but a complete lack of support and updates after a couple of years, make me understand that teh devs have abandoned the game. Anyone who reads this I recommend you not to purchase and stay away even if the devs start communicating because that is not proof that they will actually do something and bettwe send you money on games like Oriental Empires

Road Builder

Road Builder

I felt like the concept of a road building game where you’re limited to a square grid was a good idea. So to get to the puzzle stage, you’ll have to start building the roads up to the intersections-points, which becomes tedious because you have to click so many times to swap between different straights and curves. Once you figure out where roads have to cross, you have to guess your way around the extremely limited intersections. Intersections has “ghost”-tiles that are very hard to figure out how they work. It’s a guess-work which is made difficult because of the limited feedback on pathfinding. Essentially you have to connect all points, then hit play, see a binary “it works” or “it doesn’t work”. With the update you can at least see for each endpoints, but just hovering on an entry/exit should really show the path the cars will take to the opposite.

It’s really lovely game with a good concept and cute graphics.

I thinks it’s definitely worth the price (includes a lot of level, an editor, and Workshop support).

However, some of the puzzles are hard and the games is sometimes a little click- and mouse heavy.
