Shieldwall Chronicles: Realm of Madness

Shieldwall Chronicles: Realm of Madness

Gather a party of hardy adventurers and venture to the desolate wastes of northern Tarren, a realm ruled by the demon kings and their twisted champions.

Explore an open world freely while pursuing either the main quest or numerous side quests as may suit your fancy. Earn glory and riches as you lead your party into ancient ruins and face the monsters that lurk there.

Write your legend in the blood of your enemies as you face the corrupted denizens of a land steeped in dark magic. Your tactics, courage, steel and sorcery are your only allies in the northern wastes.

Choose from a host of varied character classes from among the many races found in the northern wastes. From men, elves, orcs and dwarves to outlandish creatures such as iron golems and even those possessed by the demonic. Each class has unique strengths, weaknesses and abilities that you must leverage to earn victory.

The northern wastes were warped beyond recognition by the foul magics released by the sorcerers of the elves and humans in their last great war. The unchecked and reckless use of sorcery tore the realm apart and corrupted its very nature. Worst of all, the magic brought the demon kings into existence … creatures of immeasurable power and malice. They rule the north now and their armies march ever southwards in their endless desire to bring war and death to the entire world. Holding back this tide, are the men, elves, dwarves and other races who now stand together, united by a common foe.

You will venture into this realm and face its horrors. You will gather a party of heroes that will battle and overcome the dangers of the northlands. Face braying beastmen, demonic champions and monsters formed of dark magic in tactical, turn-based combat.

  • Explore an open world freely, pursue the main quest or one of the many side quests.

  • Earn glory in tactical, turn-based battles.

  • Face countless horrors as you explore ruined castles, fetid swamps, corrupted forests and dank caverns.

  • Earn gold and loot from defeated enemies and use it to better equip and customize your party.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

TL;DR - I loved it, but it is rough in some areas. The people complaining about it being a d20 game are dumb for buying a pathfinder game and expecting it not to be. I love it.

Good -

Fun gameplay, decently implemented from pnp.

There’s a ton to do (for most part, more under bad).

The VA’s are great, when the lines are voiced.

The replayability is off the chart, I am on my 3rd playthrough and not bored of it at all.

SO many choices that can make one playthrough completely different than the first.

A Quick Summary:

Wrath of the Righteous, in a nut-shell, is an excellent party based RPG. It uses the pathfinder system which allows for very complex character builds. The overall story is quite good, and the graphics are definitely up to date with modern RPGs.

It does have bugs, but the developer has been fixing them. While the worst bugs have been fixed, there are still quite a few minor ones. I am sure given time that they too will be fixed.

The Good:

The Pathfinder RPG system. In most CRPGs I have played in recent years, the character building is fairly simple. You pick a druid or a fighter which comes with a few basic skills or abilities, then every few levels you may pick a few more. With the Pathfinder system you have a plethora of choices and other classes to mix and match in. Even basic classes have 4 variations, not to mention feats and mythic powers.

Strike Team Gladius

Strike Team Gladius

Strike Team Gladius is a typical Wave Light game, and in my book that’s a good thing. The story serves as the framework for the game campaign’s 40 combat missions, so it’s all about building a team and tactical combat. Finishing the campaign twice took me about 100 hours.

There are 12 different classes, each with a male and a female version. They all have different stats, skills and abilities. You choose 6 of them and off you go. After each mission your units get EXP points and after roughly 5 missions they get an upgrade - if you can keep them alive, that is.

Update:

The game has improved tremendously in early access and a lot of the rough edges have been removed. And the difficulty curve has been mostly smoothed out. A tutorial has also been added that helps quite a bit in getting the player oriented. Two new classes (exo armor troopers) were also added an are a lot of fun! And now it is out of early access!

Definitely recommended for fans of tactical turn based games!

Original Review:

Strike Team Gladius is a solid squad based strategy game by WaveLight games. Your 6 squad members will fight aliens in a variety of outdoor environments, with a large variety of allies and enemies. It is currently in early access and has some rough edges, but progress has been fast on sanding them down. Definitely worth a buy if you are a squad based strategy fan!

70/100 Quite fun.. but challenging

Playthrough: 30-40 hours fun (Campaign + Special Missions)

Also, the Replay-value is quite high ^^

Want to feel like a Space Soldier ordered to fight Aliens? Yay, then this is YOUR game ;D

Similar to Demon´s Rise 1+2 the Developers used the underlying Engine and most Systems to create a SciFi environment, instead of the medieval theme before. I have to admit, now the game is more polished than in 2018 and aside some general flaws regarding general Comfort and Mission Briefing - this game is quite fun ^^

Yes, this is a phone port, but it has been well optimized for PC play. It is a simple version of an X-Com type of turn-based tactical shooter, RPG. It is a lot of fun. You can choose up to 6 team members from a field of 12 different types which each specialize in different weapons/tactics. There is a Team Leader, a Medic, a Melee Assassin expert, a Flame Thrower, a Shot Gun, a Space Marine, a Psi Ops, a Missle Launcher, a Small Tank, a Sniper, and a teleporting Cyborg.

There are 28 mission battles in the linear campaign, and an additional 20 special one-off missions that you can also fight between campaign battles. The tactical fights are on a space cruiser, so tight quarters in corridors and small rooms. You can use cover to hide behind and suppression fire. Don’t group your team (beware of grenades). Each team member has Morale, Action Points and Hit Points, special abilities, different weapon skills, etc.

Sword Legacy: Omen

Sword Legacy: Omen

I originally came here to give this game a thumbs down because it is lacking any depth whatsoever… but then I saw the price was only $3.59… so, eh…. for under four dollars, I guess you get what you pay for. This game has a great concept… but feels very shallow. The concept, setting, and story could have set the grounds for a great experience… but it falls short. The developers seem to shoot themselves in the foot on purpose by putting limitations on things like how many skills you can equip… which doesnt seem bad… but considering this number is limited to 4, AND includes passive abilities which are very minor buffs… it really limits your experimentation.

Okay, now that I’ve spent a few hours on this, I think I can give it a fair review.

Overall, I would give this game a resounding “yes” to anyone who loves tactical/strategy RPGs, and wants something relatively bite-size (If each chapter is as long as the first, it will take about 8-10 hours to work through).

Pros:

  • Excellent combat options and variety (I’m loving position manipulation skills especially, really lets you play control)

  • Beautiful visually (I just happen to like this style too)

  • Controls are simple, yet give you just enough flexibility for actions.

Demon’s Rise - Lords of Chaos

Demon’s Rise - Lords of Chaos

I picked this up a few weeks ago on a whim. There weren’t many reviews, but it was cheap, so I gave it a punt. I’m very glad I did.

The game is played out as a series of small tactical battles. There are a large number of classes, each with various skills, and tactical positioning of your units is key to winning the battles. During battles your characters gain experience, and with enough XP, they level up. Initially I was disappointed that you don’t get to allocate any points when leveling up; the character just gets a number of attribute increases and that’s it.

I’ve always been a huge fan of tactics games, since playing Shining Force as a kid, and later games like Fire Emblem. This game doesn’t have a whole lot in common with those, the similarity mostly ends beyond being a tactics rpg. That’s not a bad thing though, because it’s a ton of fun.

Diverse cast of characters for a lot of team combinations. You can swap characters out whenever, and they’ll keep their level, so you can experiment without feeling locked into one, and you’re not screwed if you choose a team that doesn’t work.

Tales Of Glory

Tales Of Glory

2021 EDIT:

So seeing as I’ve put a good 56 hours into this game now, figured i’d “update” my review.

Long story short:

I really can’t describe how impressed I am with the Dev, and both the incredible pace & progress he’s managed to single handedly accomplish (between two games no-less).

I swear within a month he’s been able to rework physics entirely (with incredible responsiveness to community feedback, beta updates almost DAILY), add MOD SUPPORT (yus), reworked entire weapon colliders and physics, added procedural dungeons, in-game MAGIC system (with voice recog)… the list is endless.

The developer (yes one guy) did a great job at bringing this sandbox to VR, fulfilling our fantasies of medieval mayhem. While it’s still a little rough around the edges, there’s much potential to be had.

Pros:

1. Combat is fun, great variety of weapons for you to chop, stab, maim, crush, pulverize, shoot, impale, FORCE PUSH (!?! theres a lightsaber in the game for lols), thor hammer smash, punch to death with.

2. When you land a stab or chop at an enemy, it feels satisfying as the enemy attempts to dodge/parry/block so you feel like your’e fighting something that fights back….a little.

Disciples: Liberation

Disciples: Liberation

Never played Disciples (1). Was a big fan of Disciples 2. Disciples 3 was a disappointment. I was grateful for the release of Reincarnation which allowed me to finally play the 3rd issue of the game, but I didn’t finish it. I truly thought that the Disciples series was over.

So I was completely surprised in October of this year when I came across Disciples Liberation. The trailer looked interesting and there was a lengthy free demo being offered. I downloaded it, played it for some 30 hours, and was hooked. Later the full game was released and I just finished it after investing more than 120 hours.

Real player with 182.3 hrs in game

73 hours to finish the game, well I’m not the speedrun type. I like to go away from my screen and make me another coffee. With 73 hours I finished the first run, if you want to do the true ending you’ll need to unlock and launch Liberation mode.

Pros :

  • Beautiful art, proof that you can design lots of armors for a woman, and none of them is a titanium bikini. Maps, dungeons, Yllian, gear… really satisfying.

  • The big story is kind of déjà vu. No spoiler : you decide who is the bad guy, you have 4 choices and in the end you crush all of them anyway to become the champion of the gods of god champions. And nobody cares ! Look : when you take the highway from Lisboa to Vladivostok, ALL THE WAY you are fully conscious that your destination will be Vladivostok, right ? So if the big direction is 300% predictable, the good part is the quality of the journey, the details :

Alien Shooter TD

Alien Shooter TD

Rating: good (7/10)

Introduction

Alien Shooter TD is a Tower Defence game based on the alien shooter action game. By building “towers” on pre-defined spots you defend the base by not letting aliens enter certain points.

Gameplay & Story: 6/10

The gameplay is somewhat restricted by giving you only certain points where you can build on, but you still have choices of different “towers”. These are a bit unusual for a tower defence game - you are basically setting up teams of marines, which as towers in other TD games shoot monster on approaching, but also need ammo and use different weapons. As an example - you have tactical squads that can either slow enemies down by freezing them or burn them over time with a flame thrower. When progressing further into the game, these marines do get multiple new weapons which gives you more possibilities for tactics - build tons of cheap marines or some few more expensive but better ones. The story is almost non-present here, just the usual stuff - defending the world against an alien invasion.

I felt compelled to “100%” the game as much as possible (except for that last achievement), but I was really unsatisfied when playing the game. Towards the end of the game I would basically have it on in the background whilst doing something else.

Whilst it’s not an awful TD game, there are much more satisfying ones out there that you should play first, hence the thumbs-down.

Pros:

  • You shoot lots of aliens, like in Alien Shooter 1 and 2.

  • I quite like the constant-upkeep-reloading mechanic.
