The experience was both fun and messed up, but rough around a few edges. Also, there are some hidden things in the game, even though I didn’t manage to find them.

Well, I finished it. You’re an idiot who ordered a bear rug for six thousand dollars and you didn’t get it in a timely manner, so you drive out with your

! trigger-happy wife to the business you ordered it from and proceed to break and enter to get that bear rug. Takes maybe forty-five minutes to an hour and twenty if you go in blind, I think. Learning enemy patterns, figuring out what buttons open what and where to go next.

Ryse: Son of Rome

Ryse: Son of Rome

fun game that holds up today even though it was just a “tech demo” when release. decent story, solid graphics, and mediocre gameplay. plays like a simpler version of the batman arkham series. the only downside is that campaign is very short (4-6hrs) and the combat is repetitive. still, worth checking out since it plays like an extended action movie.

Contrary to what the game’s title might leave you believing, the protag’s name is not actually Ryse, but it’s actually Marius. Some characters do tell him to rise from time to time when he’s being a lazy slacker falling asleep in the middle of a war, and the subtitles use an i instead of a y, but that’s just semantics. I’d also consider the “Son of Rome” part to be a little inaccurate since a city can’t conceive people. Although people can be conceived inside cities, and Marius’s daddy-o, Leontius sure laid down the pipe on his wife Septima. And we have confirmation that he did so at least twice since Marius has a sister! I might be going a little off track here, so let’s get down to the game itself.

Rambo The Video Game + Baker Team DLC

Rambo The Video Game + Baker Team DLC

If you love Rambo and incredible ’80s action, then Rambo: The Video Game is exactly the game you’re looking for.

As soon as Rambo: The Video Game was announced, I was ecstatic. The trailer made the game seem like nothing but balls-to-the-walls action, recreating all the kick-ass Rambo shit that Rambo did in the Rambo movies. It was seemingly going to be everything I had ever wanted a Rambo game to be, going all the way back to 1988 when I spied the cover of the Rambo NES game and imagined what treasures the game might hold. That game did not live up to my internal hype, but Teyon’s Rambo: The Video Game didn’t just live up to my huge, unrealistic expectations, it shot an explosive arrow directly into their heart and machine-gunned them as they begged for mercy.

I am a huge fan of Rambo. I have read “First Blood,” and own all four movies. When this game was first released it flew under my radar until I saw it on a worst-of-2014 list of video games. Apparently it belonged to many worst-of-year lists. I had a PS3 (still do) and didn’t want to take up hard drive space downloading the Steam game, so I got the PS3 version instead for cheap just to see if it was that bad. I was pleasantly surprised that it followed very closely the storyline and atmosphere of the first three movies. I personally enjoy on-rails shooters and I quickly became addicted to this game! Amazingly despite the negative reviews the developers included a DLC, Baker Company, with the game two years after its release. Unfortunately they apparently sent it to the Playstation Store for upload but for one reason or another it never got posted online. I checked it earlier today: there is a version 1.01 patch but no Baker Company DLC available, and you apparently can’t even buy Rambo there anymore. :-(

Press X to Not Die

Press X to Not Die

Introduction

Press X to Not Die is a quirky full motion video game filled with lots of humor and plenty of death. The game is a nice throwback to older games of this nature. Stuck in a world where everyone seems to have gone mad, you have to find away to not die through button mashing on your keyboard or controller. The game is a fun experience that can definitely raise your adrenaline, don’t blink or relax because you never know when you’ll have to press X!

Story

The game starts off like any normal day, that is until your friend rushes over stating that everyone is attacking each other and you have to press X to not die. From that point on you’re thrust into a world where your survival depends on your reaction time. But don’t worry, you’ll be dying a lot and actually this is the best part. All of the deaths are absurd as is the game itself. You have to rescue your girlfriend, find answers and get out of town in one piece all of this action packed fun is also helped with ridiculous dialogue which is funny and also meta. Don’t worry about the fourth wall, it’s been destroyed.

Bad Rats: the Rats' Revenge

Bad Rats: the Rats' Revenge

Let’s make this clear. This game is my life. And no, this isn’t satire so grow up a little bit and understand passion when you see it. I have logged over 730+ hours and I intend to log thousands more. Not only do I play this game daily, but I put over 30+ hours a week into it at the minimum. If you can do math like me that puts it at about 4.28571429 hours a day. (no I didn’t use a calculator, I can do math in my head.) Anyone who is just staring out on steam should get this game. It’s cheap and user friendly. Not to mention is is only O N E dollar! That is incredible! I have gifted this game probably 10 times and I’ll do it again. I’m also a moderator in the Bad Rats discord, which I am highly proud of. I worked tirelessly to get that position and I think I’m close to getting admin. Anyways, no matter the type of gamer you are, Bad Rats is for you. Just don’t think you’ll ever be as good as me. Please give this game a chance to change your life like it did to mine.

If you have synesthesia, get some sunglasses before you play this game, and play it with care. It’s been about two hours since I stopped playing it and I still feel dizzy, disoriented, and nauseous.

I really like this game, but the colors, the lighting, the bloom, the motion blur– all these things put together make me feel as though I’ve been playing the game while sitting inside of a spinning dryer.

EDIT: Just completed it on Girlfriend mode.

Where to start. The Internet really wants you to make things seem worse than they are, but I refuse. Revolution 60 is a game where all the pieces are in place (nearly): there’s music, sound effects, graphics (though the anatomy, esp. the characters' heads, prevents anyone from really taking the drama seriously), and a control scheme, a movement scheme, a battle system, but all the parts are so disparate that they do not work well at all together.

This game is a port of the original IOS release, and, generally-speaking, an improvement over the original game. The controls are more responsive and the framerate is extremely stable. Though the game has issues with certain GPUs according to some users, it is generally more functional and more competent than the original game, with a clear attempt made at addressing the laundry-list of technical problems the original game had. The framerate is fixed, the audio mixing woes are fixed, the synchronization errors are fixed, the model tearing is gone. The game looks smoother and moves better than ever before, and I’ll give Giant Spacekat Studio its props for getting this much done. New content was added, including new responses for Holiday, new animations, and new skins for all the characters. By all accounts, this is an outstanding achievement on Giant Spacekat’s part at fixing the game’s various outstanding issues, and it deserves respect for doing so.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan

To be honest I heard bad things about this game a lot but to be fair I actually prefer it over House of Ashes.

Good things.

-I really liked how it based it off a real ww2 boat and how it really followed the myth of the Ourang Medan and how 22 crew mates died with no explanation to this day. (search up the name of the boat for more details)

-Setting, I enjoyed the idea of being isolated from land and the feeling of not being able to get out of this trapped nightmare.

-I know a lot people didn’t like the idea of the monsters being in their heads but I did as it was something quite different from being killed by monsters or humans.

Following the release of House of Ashes one can observe a steady increase in quality with each game starting with Man of Medan. While Little Hope and House of Ashes progressively improve the series' mechanics, gameplay, and storytelling, Man of Medan still stands as a fun time to share with friends. I love this game, and even if it could stand to be updated by Supermassive to compete with its sister games, it’s a successfully lays the groundworks and dives into the world the Dark Pictures Anthology seeks to build with each story.
