Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 2

After 3 years since the remake of Shadow Warrior the developers released a second title that continues the story. Though it is not a large span of time, it is big enough to fix the problems of the original and improve its weak points to create a true full-fledged sequel. However, instead of this obvious option, the developers decided to totally change the games mechanics and gameplay, going away from classical single player shooter to some multiplayer-ish looter shooter aka progression for the sake of progression. Did they succeed? Well, sort of.

I like to think I’m a patient person, and I’ve waited a month to post this negative review. I honestly regret not doing it sooner. I waited because the game is genuinely fun to play, but at this point the issues are a lead weight on the other side of the scale. I can say that with 134 hours, I’ve gotten my $60 out of this game, but I had to actually “try” to get that value. By the time I was totally fed up, I was outside the refund window, so I kept going to get my money’s worth.

Pros:

1. When the game works, the gameplay is stellar. The blending of shooting and ability use throughout combat works really well. It is also visually entertaining.

Ok, so the developers are being super open about problems and they just releases a 24 GB update. The game is so messed up that it needed an update 1/3 the size of the total package?

Crashes on start up. You double click your desktop icon and there is a 5 to 10 sec nothing happens. Now I had an SSD card drive that plugs in directly to my motherboard with a read speed of 2.5 gb/s. So the game starts with this beautiful graphic, a sweeping view of the game world. The the screen goes black. It stays that way until the first ad screen appears, maybe. Or it just stays black until the game loads a crash log. Which by the way adds a 340 mb file that sits on your drive every time it crashes. I cleaned out the crash dumps and there were 15.5 GB. They don’t tell you about that. Well anyway they said they fixed it, and well they were wrong.

This isn’t a negative nor a positive review, Negative for Devs visibility. Will update with game’s updates

TLDR; Very strong foundation but need way more time in the oven.

4 Player shooter with Big hordes of Zs (slow, fast, tough, wide and bosses), ok gunplay, boring runs in recruits and veteran, but challenging runs at Master and Nightmare difficulties, but not really doable until the RNG gods favor you good mods for your weapon.

So many issues I have with the game currently:

Hopes were high based on Vertigo’s track record with Arizona Sunshine, and they definitely did not disappoint. I finally get the KF2/L4D2 style horde shooter experience that I always wanted in a VR title.

Yes, I have my complaints and criticisms, but the devs are very open about this through the game’s Discord channel, and that’s all that really matters to me. These issues pale in comparison to the scope of this project, and the fact that no other developer has even floated the idea of making this type of game, let alone one that spans all major VR platforms, with the potential for cinematic and downright heart-pounding moments.

Alien Shooter 2 - The Legend

Alien Shooter 2 - The Legend

I’ve been playing Sigma Team’s games for years, and I really like Alien Shooter 2 - The Legend. As someone who has played through AS2 - Reloaded and ZS2 a bunch of times, there is a LOT that I like in this game that expands on the previous titles in interesting but not too overly complicated ways. But there ARE issues with this game that will hopefully be patched in future updates.

I may make a longer post about pros and cons somewhere in the discussions. But for now, I’m going to share only the most enjoyable pros and annoying cons I’ve experienced in my current play through (not as much of a review for new players as more of a feedback report for the developers and any other players familiar with their games).

With update 1.3 the developers finally addressed a major point of criticism: They made the repetitive filler missions optional (destroy X teleporters, kill X aliens, hold position for X minutes, collect X ammo, food, metal, bones, artifacts). Now you can skip them and only do the real campaign missions. This has reduced the amount of mandatory missions to about 70 from a 150 total. This change was very welcome.

At this point I considered a thumbs up, but there’s one thing holding me back: they added an artificial weapon recoil, which makes your crosshair move upwards every single shot. And it only moves up, up, up, and never back. This constantly forces you to reposition your mouse, even when targeting static spots, makes you miss monsters, and shoot walls instead of the actual target. It’s absolutely annoying. This feature has to be removed.

Definitely worth the money

Its one of those games that keeps the simplicity but keeps it challenging.

Its simple and easy to get used to, but finding it to easy and you will be challenged. One of the nice and unique things about this game is that no matter what you always get to keep your money even if I finish the level got back home do another level i always keep my cash but if I die, I die, I lose it all.

Good job guys.

I hope to see another map in the future

Memory Illusions

Memory Illusions

First thing first: Yes, I received a review copy of Memory Illusions from the developers for free.

That being said, I will remain fair and unbiased in my review.

Do I recommend Memory Illusions? Yes.

Is it a complete product at this time? No.

It’s in early access and being developed by a very small team. Despite being a small team, they are receptive to feedback, constantly adding new fixes and polish, and dedicated to presenting a quality product.

VR is an interesting frontier for gaming. It has generations of gaming styles and mechanics that developers can draw from to explore from a new perspective. Until Memory Illusions, I had not yet seen a looter/shooter horror game attempted in VR, and upon initially hearing about it, I was quite excited, thinking back to the looter/shooter games I have played in the past where over the course of a few hours I could transform my weak avatar into a living god.

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is The Family Circus by way of Spencer’s Gifts, a game with long, earnest quests about how darn good coffee is punctuated by gore and gun violence. Borderlands 3 walks by dog poop, points at it, and laughs, and then sets it on fire. Borderlands 3 stays up until 11:30 pm drinking soda and googling crass Flash animations, taking detailed notes.

It’s stuck in the late ’00s, when surface level vulgarity was enough to qualify as edgy—Borderlands 3 is seriously obsessed with turds—and when the series was first conceived. It’s stuck in a time when memes lasted months rather than days, when referential humor was still a novelty and not exhausting, when you could point at something the slightest bit abnormal or gross and call it a joke. Simpler times, not necessarily better times.

Real player with 2983.2 hrs in game

Let’s talk about the positives first, the graphics as everyone would expect are a lot better, the devs managed to keep the comic/cartoony look of the past games which gave the franchise more character. The combat is faster and more chaotic, the shooting is far better and the mobility of your character is a lot smoother. The guns are better, there is more variety with cooler designs and mechanics.

Now about the negatives, oh man where do I even begin… First big oopsie, I felt that the game doesn’t care about almost any of the loved characters of the previous games. Half of the past characters appear for 1 or 2 hours (or not at all) and the other half that plays a major role are treated with no respect. Like where the fuck is claptrap?! You cant have a borderlands game without Claptrap playing a major role. The second big oopsie is the villains, they are so cringe… literally. I mean ok, everyone knew that it’s hard to compete with Hansome Jack, but these villains are so fking bad, probably the worst villains I have ever witnessed. Their character feels so forced, they tryed to make them cool with all the memes but the execution is so bad. The DLCs are a lot better than the main game and part of the reason is SPOILER the main game villains don’t appear in any of them.
