This is a decent horror game.

It gets even better if you are into 80’s horror and slasher movies. All the small details, and nice references are there. The game has haunting music, pretty good voice acting and the typical horror story(In no way original but scary enough). Jumpscares are limited, and I like it that way.

graphics are PS1 style, personally I liked it for this game.

Only negative I can say is that I did not know when the game would save, so I just guessed when a new chapter started. Not that the game seems that long anyway, but still sometimes people take breaks.

EMPORIUM

EMPORIUM

Emporium is meditative and ethereal, and immensely sad.

Effectively a 2.5D walking simulator, with minimal interactivity, a fractured narrative, and haunting mood. It is beautifully presented, with dreamlike imagery and ambient sounds. It lasts about 30mins, and is worth playing twice to see all dialogue.

For me it was an unforgettable experience, but it won’t appeal to everyone. It’s slow, echoingly empty and lonely, and aching with despair. But if you like experimental non-linear narrative, or just appreciating a dreamlike and melancholy mood perfectly evoked, Emporium excels at this.

Being alone is part of survival.

Tom Kitchen brings us, not a game, but what he calls an “interactive vignette"; I like that phrase, it’s apt, and better than the pejorative “walking simulator”. Both are accurate terms; you will walk a lot in this game, but fortunately there is a run button for the impatient.

This review started with a quote from the vignette that really grabbed me. It strikes as truthful, and likewise one must to be alone with this experience. If you allow it to be a deeper reflection then you will probably get something out of it, but it’s not a happy one. Regardless the creator is a good writer and has created an experience that is thoughtfully poetic.

I feel a little bad that there are no other reviews(that I can see) of this title…

This is a visual novel. The story isn’t bad, but I did expect a little more as far as actual gameplay. Not bad, not great.

ALRIGHT! I was interested in this because of the artwork… And “Key” looks attractive… So you know… Gotta read it + enjoy the visuals!

The music is pleasant, by that I mean it works with the reading. Of course the drawings are really good! I also like how the visuals follow the narrative … For example: Battle damage in a fight – is shown in the images.

OH! The enemies are really creepy. Good work! I like “Key’s” armor and “other look” as well (The transformation).

This is a very short story, but Acts were promised! It obviously ends in a cliff hanger… Which is going to drive me a bit nuts… Because that’s not what I expected… I even replayed it a bunch of times to ensure I got the right ending! I wont spoil it… But ehh… I want to see more of “Key” and know more about the characters!!! And the monsters and everything else!

Quite frankly, the side stories were uninteresting to me. Except for the backstory about Tokiko. Other than that, I would only really get this title for the additional H-Scenes it provides. They are pretty good, in terms of premise as well as concept.

The best visual novel and game about drugs I’ve ever played. If you want to get sucked into a vortex of twisted plots, this game is definitely for you. Different storylines and endings make this game playable for long hours. Depiction of drug effects are also very imaginative and sometimes trippy as hell.

Trials of Harmony ~ A Found Phone Mystery Visual Novel

Trials of Harmony ~ A Found Phone Mystery Visual Novel

I found Trials of Harmony during the most recent winter sale, and I am definitely glad I did. Although the premise is a touch derivative (primarily of the Zero Escape games, with a hint of Danganronpa), and although there is the occasional typo, awkward word choice, or monologue that would be thumb-cramping for someone to type on their phone in real life, overall this phone-chat VN tells a satisfying story.

The setup of the situation is effectively expressed, most of the characters are fleshed out and sympathetic, and the puzzles are straightforward. (Tip: To select answers, click and hold.) I would have liked a little more variation in the story–and thus more weight to most of my choices, and no cases of “but thou must”–but I realize that accommodating such branching would require far more complexity in the storytelling.

Thematically, Trials of Harmony is a game in the vein of 999, VLR and other such escape room and visual novel mash-up games. Long story short, for what it tries to do within its scope, it’s pretty solid. There aren’t all that many western visual novels, so having a developer from a different background tackle this genre was refreshing in and of itself, as the game deviates a little from the usual VN formula. And while Trials of Harmony is certainly a variation on a theme, it’s an interesting take with a more grounded approach than is typical for the genre.

! So there I was… A nameless adventurer traveling through this mysterious castle when I come upon a classroom. Intertesting I think to myself, and hey there is a note from a previous student. it reads " The black tiles are rigged with land mines.” I think to myself damn what a close call I’m glad I read that note. Hey there is another note the first was so helpful I better read this too! (my last thought before I lay dead. A mysterious adventurer in a mysterious castle!

Okay for the review… Let me start off by saying usually what I spend on

Do you enjoy reading? Are you a fan of choose your own adventure books? Are you a fan of fantasy settings? If you answered yes to all three then chances are you will find what DuCats Game Studio have presented here appealing. Bonus points if you like earning quick and easy Steam achievements. Swordbreaker the Game. The game definitely reminds me of the old fantasy adventure choose your own adventure books that I loved so dearly as a child but whose adult texts were often aimed at people several years older than I was (I began reading these books at about the age of ten). Regardless, it was an experience that I was more than willing to take on. It certainly proved to be a different type of visual novel than the largely Asian variety that has come to be popular on Steam. Not that there’s anything wrong with them just that there is a notable difference.
