Heterodox

Heterodox

I like the castle layout with lots of corridors and passages. Has an old school flavor and you always feel that there’s more to it. The enemies manage to take you by surprise sometimes - don’t take them lightly, they’re mean and set to kill you! Don’t forget to save the game and load if you die. Cool thing that you get to dismember the opponents, depending on where you hit them. Not sure if there’s a way to parry their hits. The game is in early access, so I expect feedback to be handled and lot of things to be added and improved. Like it would be useful to have the help hints in a book or somewhere in the menus to read them again if needed.

I like this game! Strong Hexen vibe! Interesting complicated levels in medieval style. GIBS! Fighting is not good enough for now. Also some lack of options (audio, partially bindings etc). But the game shows great hopes. And i wish to the author all luck! Please do not drop it!!!

Behold!

Behold!

Honestly this is a very simple game. But simplicity does not equal boring.

The game is basiclly a fun little twin stick shooter with chaotic and metal feeling to it’s gameplay.

It’s not complicated and it’s not hard to understand.

It’s just simple fun.

The game is incredibly cheap, so thats all i could ask for 3

The Basics:

Nice pixel art, rocking music, funny sounds, satisfying death animations :)

Xbox 360 controller works nicely.

The game should run on any toaster of your choice.

The Gameplay:

You are a monster which breaks loose between two armies, your task is to survive by wiping out said armies.

Waves of diverse enemies will be thrown against you ranging from several kinds of melee guys to archers to mages and (mini)bosses like giants, minotaurs etc.

You will shoot 4 kinds of rays (picked randomly, 1-2 at a time) with different effects to kill stuff. Furthermore you can jump granting you invincibility while in mid-air and crushing enemies beneath you when you come down (has a cooldown). Finally you will eat enemies whom you touch replenishing your health by 10 each time (again beware the cooldown).

IF you want my last game STREET BRO to appear on Steam too, please support on Kickstarter:

Many developers have forgotten what makes a platformer game fun.

In my opinion we must forget the giant and redundant labyrinths and go back to basics:

Many have tried to make games that are sometimes very pretty but terribly boring after having crossed the same levels over and over again.

I simply would like to make a linear platformer where the player cannot get lost as it is unfortunately too often the case in recent productions.

The story:

You are the mysterious Darko whose face no one has ever seen.

If you played to the first"Across the demon realm" you probably discovered that Darko was a demon.(Spoil: Let the female zombie kill you! )

The gameplay:

Only a button to jump and a button to attack, what’s all! (No Rpg elements but a lot of weapons to grab! Sometimes you will steal the weapon of a defeated enemy! )

Today, platform games (especially the metroidvania) have become like some open world games:

gigantic games where you can go everywhere but which are often full of the same sort of monsters…boring and repetitive.

I would like that the player does not get bored so the levels are less extensive, more linear but more varied.

Across the demon realm 2 aims to surprise you in ways few games have before by introducing constant changes in environment, traps, monsters, dialog and plot twists!

And, the most important, you will never get lost in a gigantic level where all the walls are the same!

Use the keyboard or a joypad to play (I don’t try other controllers but if it’s recent enough you should use it! )

Warning: I’m sorry for this but the start button (pause) don’t work, you need to use the keyboard key “esc” to pause.

Mature content: a pixelated nude female zomby and a nude pixelated woman-plant. they are two enemies to fight do not expect to live the great love with them, they are rather aggressive!

March 12 2018 Review Update

Primordian’s great potential is coming to fruition. All my initial concerns have either been resolved or acknowledged by the developer, to whom I give my respect to for his engagement with the community and his dedication to this work of art.

Gone is old, inefficient main menu which has been replaced with an immersive landing area which drops you straight into the game world, giving you access to it’s different paths and game options; a brilliant and creative user interface and user experience.

I feel sad for this game, because It was so promising.

The cg here is mindblowing. Chacters, their animation, environment, etc is just perfect.

And this game have one of the best weapons I’ve ever saw.

But…

The other things are just horrible, game is mostly unplayable.

-First vr fps I’ve seen where you are not moving on actual ground. It looks like but its not! You can notice it when running from height to lower ground. You will realise the character is kinda flying… When you are on some platfoms - some of them are moving faster than you. When they are already on the ground, you are still flying.

Blasphemous

Blasphemous

Wandering what would it be if Dante’s Inferno (2010) became a metroidvania game? Now you have the answer, it’s Blasphemous! I’ll try to be as brief and honest as possible telling what I saw and experienced during my playthrough.

Before anything else my entire playthrough was during “V. 1.0.6” so, if there’s something missing the devs might have patched it. At this moment the game is on “V. 1.0.8” and according to the devs:

@Blasphemous:

“You’ll also notice that this is Patch 1, which means more patches and content updates will be on their way - launching Blasphemous doesn’t mean we’re finished! - Wed, 25/09/2019”

Knowing that let’s get to move on to the review…

If someone reads this - Sorry for my English.

I really wanted to like this game. But it seems to me that the logic of exploring the map is fundamentally broken.

How does metroidvanias work? At the location, you find obstacles that you can not overcome. –- You explore the location, find the ability. — Overcome obstacles and feel progress. The game designer organizes the game levels in such a way that you can collect the necessary abilities for game progression and explore old locations to find secrets. And in portions, you get more and more freedom to move.

let me say first off that i was not expecting to like this game. when i miss a vr game like this i assume its for a reason.

but never the less i bought it and im glad i did.

lets start with the pros;

1X. controls are here, smooth loco and smooth turning, a few options.

1. good visual style with a nice scary-ish setting. not neccisarily horror but dark and moody.

2.alchemist system is great. you pick up items and they return to your secret room, which im guessing there is a few of these rooms. i have seen one.

This is probably the closest thing to Dark Souls in VR right now. The atmosphere is pretty much spot on, and it’s on another level when it’s on VR. This game should have far more positive reviews in my opinion.

The game is tough, and at first you might feel like it’s just bad controls what are causing you to miss your attacks - but that’s not it. You’re just not getting your range right. The controls and hit boxes are good, but the game does take some skill, and it took me at least half the first chapter to get the hang of it. By the second chapter I was already accurately blocking attacks with my shield, and countering back. Also note that the harder you swing your arm, the more damage you’ll do.

Sanator: Scarlet Scarf

Sanator: Scarlet Scarf

I originally downloaded the demo in its early days, and it was not a great start as the dialogue was wordy, too clever for its own good, and nonsensical in places. Its great to see how it has improved, as this was always a story to arouse one’s curiosity! The music and artwork set up the atmosphere for what, as others have said, is a world that could appear in further episodes. There is replayability in this VN, as its the only way to get some of the achievements, and it gives the opportunity to learn more about this medieval fantasy and the myths behind it. There are several different endings and so far I have found 3.

Sanator: Scarlet Scarf is a dark fantasy multiple choice Visual Novel written by Gilbert Brissen using a prose style that reflects the Period setting allowing the Reader to delve deep into the immersion of the Plague ridden town of Reustadt.

The Main Protagonist is a Sanator called Richard Murdoch who belongs to the Brotherhood of St Elmo that are tasked to ensure the safety of the town and to do battle against any Plague spirits. To be prepared, the Sanator wears protective clothing of: a beak shaped mask, a long cloak, a robe, deep gauntlet gloves and fisherman length boots making Murdoch appear, at least to me anyway, as a Medieval superhero who also has a ‘sidekick’ named Anga - a Shadow spirit he can call on when in danger.

Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide

Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide

I earned myself a Vermintide steam key after winning a review contest for a local gaming community with my written work on the classic grand strategy of Rome: Total War. I played Vermintide for the first time in the winter break of 2017, thinking that it will offer a few hours of good fun with friends over the holidays.

This game changed my life. To say that the developers at Fatshark have poured their souls into this title would be an understatement. For me it rightfully has a place in the hall of timeless gems such as Quake, Thief: The Dark Project or SOMA. It has not only provided me with great value for my time and a sense of accomplishment as I learned its various facets and overcome all of its challenges, but at a human level it has allowed me to connect with people who have become some of my best friends. For this alone I could offer nothing but praise to this game.
