Golfing Over It with Alva Majo

Golfing Over It with Alva Majo

A lot of people are saying that this game is too difficult, has bad controls, or that the ball is too random. Everyone saying these things are wrong. I know because I used to be that person. I had left a very negative review that ripped apart this game for being unfair to the player in its design, but it turns out I was completely wrong about that. I was blaming the game for my lack of skill. But after playing it a bit more, I started to make progress.

This game gives me the same nervous sweats that Getting Over It gives me, which I love. The higher you climb, the more the tension grows. It’s what I imagine walking a tightrope feels like. Falling in this game often means losing a lot of progress, but unlike Getting Over It, that progress can be made up quite quickly. After a while, you become familiar with some of the areas through repetition, and that makes exploring new areas very exciting.

If you’re reading the bad reviews - check to see if they managed to beat the game, or if they are just raging.

Everybody thinks they have a point to make when they’re angry. It’s sad to see so many bad players blaming their lack of skills on the game. A game that was made to be this way on purpose. It’s actually easier than Getting Over It, it’s just not the same game mechanics at all.

Having said that, if you want a game to make you feel good about yourself, don’t buy this game - this won’t be handing you any free wins - you will have to earn it. Took me 2 hours in 2 different sessions. Now I feel like I can beat it in 10 mins since I learned many techniques along the way. I’m curious to see how the speedruns are doing…

Music is great and I love the the atmospheric feel throughout the whole game. If you’re a fan of 2D platformers I highly recommend you give Mighty Fling a go!

One bug that I have experienced is when I pause the game to change the volume the ball will still fling in game as if you never paused it.

At some point in the game I started talking to myself if I’m supposed to give up and just move on..

Well, me and myself came to the conclusion that we are not done yet and the satisfaction after that was well worth it.

Amazing ambient sound effect and lighting throughout the whole journey!

A lovely game by a lovely studio. It perfectly squares itself between the relaxation one might find in a title like Mario Golf (with its golf meets magical world premise) and the challenging, precision platforming of titles like Super Meat Boy and Celeste. Really looking forward to the full version!

I got this game to try it out after hearing about it from a stream that I often watch. I can say that this game is really really fun, I love all the mechanics of the game and how you can control the golf ball that has been produced by the wizard and manipulate the environment around you. The game is really well done overall and the platforming aspect of the game is challenging for anyone who loves platforming, however I want to put some of my own feedback down below.

  • So, this is my first bit of feedback because I think it may be potentially important to the growth of the game, when I started the game on controller I ran into a bit of a graphical glitch. I am a controller player, so I am pleased that the game does fully support controller, but the new game option completely covered any of the other options that I was able to choose from. This could be due to me having OBS open at the time since I was getting ready to stream this game at the time, but I do think it is something worth looking into. I currently have not seen the issue since, so I don’t know if this was caused by OBS.

Well the game it’s self is great, unsurprisingly, especially with friends.

unfortunately though the game now contains tracking, which supposedly you can turn off. they won’t tell anyone what information they could possibly be collecting from a golf game though which is of course, very suspicious.

I have put many hours into this game with friends. No more.

Recently added spyware.

The latest patch, “Analytics Patch 1.2” added on by default tracking that reports home whenever you click online play. The game, regardless of enabled or disabled “analytics”, breaks when blocking their spyware server (ads.t17service.com).

The software has an option to disable analytics, but still attempts to connect to analytics servers.

Graviter

Graviter

Graviter is a simple-to-understand but rather difficult gravity based puzzle game. The premise is odd, you take on the role of the object trying to search for your lost cat after it was eaten and then spat out by a black hole; you will need to cross paths with all of the paw prints on screen from level to level, presumably following the footsteps to find the cat. Helping you along the way are other planets that help to alter the gravity fields around to maneuver around the screen.

This game is a simple concept, but done very cleanly, with quite a few puzzles. I’ve only put a little bit of time into it, but I already know how the mechanics work. It’s not a difficult game to play, but it takes thought to solve. There are definitely more than one solution on almost all puzzles, but it’s more about your ability to manipulate gravity + picking the right time to use your pauses than a normal “puzzle game”.

TLDR: Clean art, clean mechanics, interesting puzzles (and many of them). Great deal for less than $10.

Ballistic Mini Golf

Ballistic Mini Golf

I really don’t get why this game has mixed reviews, I may only have 4 hours into this game but it’s been a lot of fun. The game has over 17 courses (Recently added 3 more as of this date), over 10 locations which are very unique from each other, a variety of game modes to play, multiplayer support and more. So why does this game have so many negative reviews? The developers clearly care for this game due to the fact they are actively working to make the game better by adding much needed features.

Ballistic Mini Golf is a great new addition to the mini golf game genre. I am in love with this game so far. and ive only played it for an hour. The graphics are stunning, and there are some great customization options already available. There are for sure some features id love to see added, like the ability to change the player names, and maybe limit shot ammounts and or time limits. I’ve spent either 44 strokes or 15mins on a single hole. As well as having the game take you back to the course selection after completing a course instead of automatically proceeding to the next course. But all around this game is great especially considering its in its first week of release of early access. Loving it and Cant wait to see what the developers have in store for their game!

Super Inefficient Golf

Super Inefficient Golf

The game pretty much plays the way it looks. You get up to 4 sets of mines that you can stack up to 4 each (for a total or 16 simultaneous mines placed on a ball) per shot attempt. Total mines per hole is also limited in case you just can’t get the ball in the hole, but it’s generally dozens of mines per hole.

Overall, this game is a lot of mindless fun and worth a few dollars buy-in.

  • Pretty game/art/graphics

  • Solid physics

  • Good sound

  • Many of the holes have a bunch of assets that never come into play (for me). In fact, I couldn’t really tell much about the features of any given hole - the game pretty much allows you to bypass everything with well-placed mines, and this is a must if you hope to get a low (high?) score.

Remember the ending to Caddyshack? Someone took that, subtracted the kangaroo, and made it into a game. Oh, and Al Czervik was wrong.

The Good:

  • It’s definitely a fun way to change up a game of golf.

  • Place up to 16 explosives all over a giant golfball and set them off.

  • The soundtrack is wacky golf music if I’ve ever heard it.

  • Cheating isn’t really cheating. If you can figure out how to land a trickshot in this, you earned that win.

  • Explosion-based physics really opens doors to interesting playstyles and experimentation.

This review is made after going through a few courses to get the feel of the game.

Pros:

Servers

Amount of maps at release.

Workshop is available if you know how to make a course using their unity engine.

Courses have a nice vareity of realistic to fantastical.

The customization is pretty decent, but seems rushed.

It have some decent textures on some courses.

You can continue a course from your last hole if you crash or close game!

Quickmatch is handy if you don’t want to solo or scroll through servers.( if people make servers)

I received this game as a gift during one of my old livestreams, and I have to say I was not disappointed in this one. While at the current time of writing this the game does need some polishing (as every Early Access Game does), the overall general mechanics of the game function quite well.

PROS:

  • Beautiful scenery

  • Engaging soundtrack with spine-chilling tunes (especially the horror levels!)

  • Many different customizational tools for both cosmetic and challenge purposes

  • Level Editing

  • Stable servers and connections
